That I don't get. when I was a 10th dan, I was hunting every master I could find... promoting in 1 match? too good. And I stayed to let the master I stole the rank from a chance to get it back. luckily for me, he won right after i promoted to hunter. Since then, there's no one to be found... so it's player match time since i don't care about playing ranked without the ghost of demotion or the hope of being promoted.

I have been at Veteran forever. I hardly play Ranked anymore. I would have a very hard time beating the guys at higher ranks to get promoted, but I feel I can handle pretty well the vast majority of 10th Dan and Master rank guys. Not because I am a badass, but because I should be able to because I have played a ton of VF since VF3.

I think I have basically maxed out my skill level. To get better I would need to study chars I don't understand, study frames, and study/practice defensive techniques. I kind of wish VF didn't reward or punish people so much for these things. I mean, I obviously don't wanna play DOA, but textbook VF is so powerful, and to me has all the fun and appeal of, yes, an actual textbook.

    Whoo Hoo, Textbooks!

There aren't enough people playing online which is pretty obvious. There are many players capable of ranking past master in the U.S., but the small player base and the nature of the rank itself is a huge barrier. Basically if you didn't rank up earlier when the game was more popular, you're screwed now but it's still fun anyway.

The secret of beefing yourself up at VF.
    - Experience: The more matches, the better.)

    - Study: there are tons of things you need to learn in VF. I think many US players have nice reflexes, but many players lack knowledge about each characters. Also, they tend to lack denfense skill from my perspective. With that said, some players are really strong. I'm pretty happy about it and that's the only reason why I haven't been able to kick this bad habit yet /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

    - Be as flexible as possible.
In this game, "Yomi"(prediction) is one of the most important elements to win.

    MasaRED
    Current Rank: Berserker
    Highest Rank: Berserker
    Worst Demote: ?? I don't remember...

Maybe it's a time zone thing but I see plenty of 10th dans well maybe not plenty but
they aren't rare per say. I doubt I'd have much of a hard time getting passed master
    if I actually tried.

Totally agree. Everyone is so bent on just spamming attack paterns that they lack defense. Break the offense and there game completely crumbles. The is the type of loop holes I look for. If a person is being highly offensive and winning usually by the 2nd or 3rd round I usually can turn the tide on them and make a come back because I can see the pattern and break the offense. Once there offense is broke they usually have no defense to fall back on. There next plan of attack is usually to then just be random and start spamming things like DM, BEAT KNUCKLES(JACKY), PPP STRINGS(EILEEN, SARAH), LOW KICK HIGH KICK(PAI), etc. Plus like MasaRED said not having sufficient knowledge of the game and how to deal with characters further puts them in the whole. There are many strong players online and some definitely have the capabilities of being better than me and many others. But there approach to the game is what holds them back. VF is not a game where you can abuse the same thing over and over it will only get you so far. I can recall a few online matches where I run into a player who literally owns me 3 rounds straight and then they send me a message like "you don't serve that rank". Then I rematch them and beat them 3 straight and sometimes with 1 or 2 excellents. Then they will send me a message like "you got lucky" and I am thinking to myself... NO YOU GOT LUCKY THINKING THAT SAME BS IS GOING TO WORK FOR ANOTHER 3 ROUNDS. People need to do just a small bit of studying as per MasaRED and listen to what Badseed said. Learn to play some defense every once in a while. I can't tell you how many situations I have been in where someone has a move defended that leaves them at like -12 through -15 and then they follow it up with another move like a knee which usually excutes in 17 frames... WTF you just put yourself in a -29 through -32 position because you are on offense auto pilot. People -12 through -15 should register in your brain as AUTOMATIC DEFENSE MODE. All offense isn't going to get you as far as you would like to go. This is what I meant when I said long ago that VF is only fun when you play with people who know how to do the VF dance. Only when both partners are dancing in harmony can you see the beauty of this game. This is why high level matches like the recent clip with Koedo(Jean) vs Gorgeous(Eileen) looks so fucking amazing. They are 2 partners who knows the steps and they are dancing in harmony.

He Said Dancing LOL!! Funny you should say dancing For VF5. Last i remember when dancing your partner follows your every move. Why would you want some body following you because you can't change it up? Not saying that this is the case but in other to not confuse the player i'll say when people have a knowledge of the game it looks beautiful i motion. If you can follow my every move then im not "Flexible" enough.

    Excellent opinions, Konjou and MasaRed!!!
I have to say I'm really glad to challenge u guys even I always got raped.... However, I never mind at all coz I can tell both of u r really good and realize what u r doing about this game~~

Unfortunately, most players on line seem like don't realize VF so far but try to win the match. I told MasaRed before I said I was so impressed that he was always keeping host on rank and waiting for new challengers!! Maybe he has a good connection with other countries as well~~ coz how can u promote to "Berserker" if here is just a little bit high rank players.

VF is one part of dancing!!!

For the first time I think I can finally say... I FEEL YA HOMIE! Beat Knuckle spamming is unbeatable even at the highest level, so you are not alone. Seems like I have a beat knuckle spamming Jacky player online that absolutely hates my guts. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif Check his bio when ever you guys get a chance. Have no clue who he is but he is making it clear to me that I suck and I only like to beat up on online scrubs, because I don't win competitions. Well he may be right to a small extent. I haven't won a competition in ages since UGS, but I have won more than him. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

His gamertag is Democritus[/size]. Hate at it's fullest! Dude has my name in his bio.... buuuuhahahahhahahaha! That's LOVE not hate. The fool don't even realize it, but he is promoting me. It's only going to make more people want to find me and challenge me. And to top it off he says he has a clan... WTF a clan of haters or a clan of haters who hate me? Guess time will tell! I'm LOL'ing so bad right now. hehe I'm gonna go get some coffee ice cream!

I thought the name was familiar from some where. I don't care about his play, just crazy that he hates me so much and don't even know me. I guess he did it when I was using that alias account eEtMyKaWk LoSeR LOL! I was beating his ass so bad that day and that's when the hate started. Guess it didn't help when I picked Jacky and went back to hunt for him and started spamming /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif like he does. Oh well, I could care less if he hates me. It's just funny to me that he is going so far out of his way to promote me.

And Konjou wonders why "I" get kicks from being 1st dan? Haha.
I actually can beat the tar out of Democritus but my friend who
has the Bizazedo account frustrates the shit out of me. Probably
because we've played each other for I dunno 10 years on and off.
Familiarity + beat knuckle mania = hell on earth.

FYI, I don't know much about frames. I do know how the frame system works, but I'm not deligent nor patient enough to look into the frames of every moves /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Important knowledge to learn is basics of the game and the nature of useful/strong moves of each character. Learning to make use of them or dealing with them would be the 1st step to win, I think. We don't have to learn to use ALL moves. Just a handful of moves should be enough to pile up a bunch of wins.

Also, hit detection is essential too. I see a lot of players in the States who don't care if they get a hit or not...
