List of people who are 10th Dan and higher

I don't dodge people and have a habit of searching for people who beat me, so demotion is common.

Amusing story, I got 10th Dan by being one loss away from 8th Dan demote, then slagging a fellow 9th Dan three straight times to get to 10th.

I then got crushed down to one loss to 9th and managed to luck into a Master and beat him (sup Blahzie, I got lucky).

Like Konjou said, people dodge I imagine or hide in player. The ranking system is fine in and of itself if people didn't dodge.

What Sega should do is have ranks decay over time if you don't fight x amount of people near you.

That can still be cheated, but at least force effort.

 

Player matches are like a million times better than ranked because you can mess around with other characters and experiment without worrying about droppers/pressure. Nobody even plays ranked anymore, so I don't even bother. It's like a ghost town these days. I can't even remember the last time I seriously sat down for a few hours in ranked to get some points. Without player matches I probably would've quit VF5 online months ago in favor of Battlefield/Halo/COD4.

Anyway, I'm at Master and I think I got to Hunter once......ONCE!!

 

I play ranked all the time and I don't worry about droppers/pressure. I think if
you do, you take your gaming too seriously. I mess around with other characters
too. Nothings preventing you from that in ranked. I see some pretty good players
in ranked as well. Konjou, None Other, Flash, Denkai, and that's just too name a few.

 

Well, the disconnecting is an issue that you never run into in player matches which is why I like it. In ranked it's not as bad as it used to be but it's still there.

Don't get me wrong though ranked matches are good in a gambling sort of way, but ranking opportunities are few and far between now that the player base is smaller. The only reason for me to keep playing now is for fun, but after seeing this thread it's good to know that people are still out there playing. I'll see you guys if I'm on at the right time I guess.

I and other people on here have been pulled on in player matches.
For me it's almost as often as ranked matches. You know what's also
more common in player matches? People feeling out matched and jumping
out the ring.

And insofar as ranked vs player matches. How about this: I've played somewhere in the area of 300+ matches since I got master, and I've only played against 2 10th dans. I play a lot more player matches these days, but its not because I'm hiding, when a match that has rank on the line comes around, I get a rush. Its awesome, I love it, and I wish it would happen every time. But the problem is 400 billion kyus and low-dans runnin around. See heres the issue, I host games. Thats what I do. I try to avoid joining other peoples games simply because, well, its more in line with what my ego wants. When I join a ranked game, it feels predatory to me. But when they join my game, then they're stepping up to me, so when I take their rank, I don't feel guilty or like im bullying.

That said, now that I'm at master, I get only non ranked matches. Seriously, I havent had a ranked match in over 200 games now. I've probably popped about 50 vf cherries in this time (10th kyu with 0-0 record). And I've definitely contributed my fair share to those guys with the 7-150 records. So, I play player matches against people I know are good. Its not running, its seeking a challenge. Know what would bring me back to ranked more? A player filter. I just simply don't care about rank enough to sift through the legions of 10th kyus who like to join my game 10 times in a row. I'm not exaggerating.


also: If its ranked matches and someone who beats me keeps joining, guess what, I demote, and keep hosting. So IMHO I'm not running.

 

losing ur rank only makes u better cuz u can use ur failures at promoting as added motivation to improve ur game,

Call me a predator then because I rarely host. It's also how I get the better
games in MOST of the time. Well that and people tend to NOT want to play
against me for some ungodly reason (stomping, bait and smear tactics, KNEE.)
Interesting take on your reasons for hosting, me? I only host when I can't find
anyone decent hosting.

but nah, seriously, i don't see joiners as predatory, *I* just feel predatory when *I* join. Its in large part due to the fact that if I get in a good game regardless of win or loss, I want to play the same guy again, so I can't resist rejoining. So if I beat a guy 5 times in a row... Its better if he joins my game, cause otherwise i just feel bad. *shrug*
