Keep it up Konjou. You have an excellent rep to use as a platform to spread your message. Take advantage of it and get the points you want to make out there buddy. I wish I would have been doing this sort of stuff when VF5 was hot. Too bad some of these cool projects weren't undertaken until vf5 was losing players so quickly : (

Yeah I totally didn't catch the fact that people would have to be watching, listening and reading all at the same time. That's a great point you bought up and I'll make a mental note to improve upon this in the future. Annotations and using them is still relatively new to me, plus I don't know what is all there yet in terms of the functions youtube has to offer.... And yeah I'll play around more with doing freeze frames like you mentioned. Thanks man this is really good stuff for me to keep in mind to create better content. I can't wait to share the next one with your guys. It's gonna be dope!

I am assuming you are talking about the Kage video? No I never saw this anywhere. I use one of Akira's throws in this way where if a person does a rising attack then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is guaranteed. Pretty much anything is guaranteed, but you would be a fool not to use one of those moves. Personally I just go for Yoho every time since it's guaranteed damage. So when I picked up Kage, about 1-2 months after I was messing around with him I was bored one day and went into Dojo mode looking for stuff and I found that.

Actually this all came about from a conversation I had with Denkai like a year ago. He should be getting all the credit from this. He uses one of Jacky's throws in this way and is a master at it...

Throw --> High rising attack whiffs = guess between throw again or attack

    Throw --> Low rising attack whiffs = eat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

Throw --> OH YOU SCARED TO DO SOMETHING NOW MOTHER FUCKER... HERE, HOLD ANOTHER THROW WHILE YOU THINK ABOUT

hahahaha the fucker is a master at this shit and you should see it in action. Trust me a lot of you fall victim to it, but it's just happening so fast you don't even notice it. Look outside the box people or try to analyze things in between matches and you will be amazed at what you are missing.

It seems like a lot of people want this. Maybe. I'll give it some thought. There's a very lot of character specifics. If konjou goes with it though, I'll gladly help.

My suggestion is to use either annotation, or voice, but not both at same time. Even if it takes time to explain something by voice, you can also freeze film until you have explained.

I would like to thank Adam actually for I wouldn't have experimented with the (I like to call it) "Throw aftermath" setups in dojo mode if not for him. It was hard for me to hit Adam at first because of his defense so I had to use every trick in the book I could think of. Adam likes to do a quick raising after he gets hit with a throw and when he realizes that he will get punished for that he will start to sidestep instead so I desperately looked for ways to counter his options with fast reaction guesses.

When dealing with opponents that are strong you are forced to developed creative techniques that will make your opponent 2nd guess his original choice. This will subconsciously weaken a person defense without him even knowing and will make the player feel frustrated.

lol. did you read the thread before you posted this? But ya. I thought that. SMB thought that. You thought that. It was noticable. I imagine Konjou made the video, uploaded it to youtube and was like "oh, cool. I'll put annotations on this too. That's how it goes for me anyhow. You wan't to make something self-sufficient before you put it on youtube, so you don't put long pauses/freezes in it. Then you put it on youtube and you wanna put notations on it...

Thought I'd just revive an old thread instead of starting a new one. I'll save that for when FS drops.

Anyway, I've been having a lot of fun lately playing VF5 so I decided to records a few of my sessions.

Here is one I had yesterday with Maddy Akira. My apologies if the quality is bad, but I just didn't feel like making test videos just to get the perfect Youtube format.

    Enjoy

    Part 2

I don't know if you plan on buying one, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper than the amazon listing.

Quality could be much better but I don't have a good gfx card at the moment. I'll probably get a better card after the holiday.

Those videos have lots better quality than what my crappy USB-capture device could do before it finally broke down. Thank you for sharing these vids. Nice classic Akira play.

    Thoughts after watching thefirst vid:
    - nice boxstepping

    - After generic wallsplat with Akira, the maximum practical nontechable damage is [P][K] (wall) - OTG [IMG][6][P]+[K] (or knee). Yet I seem to never see anybody use it but me. Works on all characters. The same ending is usually max damage after wallcarries too etc. The bounce DbPm does less damage. Maddy started using this ending on wallcarries near the end of vid 1 which is good. [IMG] - but not after wallsplat which is bad.

    - your CH SDE combos need improving [IMG] Was your doublepalm rusty?

    - Im surprised either of you guys didnt use the elbow sabaki more, considering the amount of DE's and SDE's flying around. Also, Id expect to see more [4][6][P] since its equally fast and beats both dashing elbows on equal timing because it does more damage. (Actually Maddy started using it near the end of vid 1, along with several other things that I was about to comment about)

    - Maddy seemed to have trouble punishing your evades, which seemed to be determining factor on many matches.

    - [4][3][P]+[G] if you want a simple followup, Id use [6][6][P] instead of sidekick, since DE on normal hit is +4 as opposed to sidekicks +0. Also Im not sure sidekick is a combo anymore after RBC (As in, used to be in vf4).

    - At times the fight seems a bit spastic. Sometimes dont utilize the advantages that you have fully, like going for low punch instead of something bigger. (you block shoulder ram and are at +9, you go for a low punch..) I understand low punch is a 'safe bet' if you suspect opponent to evade, but Akira has ways to punish low punch pretty badly too.

I hope this feedback is taken as constructive. WAtching next vids now and editing as appropriate.

ps. Im putting together a new computer, hopefully Ill be able to do some quality videocapture with it and cap my vf fights too. I want to do it, but I dont have the means atm.

From the middle of Vid 2 and on Konjou was lunching. In Vid 3 he never really crouched to block that much. To be honest i have a heavy dislike for fighting Akira now in laggy connections. It seem as if Konjou got restless from dominating the first long set. I could be wrong though.

As I know these Akira players very well I feel I should comment on their particular play styles:

Konjou has selective offense. It's his defense and guard breaking skill that make him scary. He creates a good guessing game between SDE and guard break in high pressure situations - difficult to defend against. Maddy on the other hand is very aggressive and always on top of you. Once he gets down hill momentum against you it's not going to be easy avoiding setup after setup.

Both players have no choice after a while to be tentative of each other because of respect and latency. You're simply not going to see much high risk stuff when it's this competitive. Nobody wants to eat a round because they tried guess it big. (Even if this is only seems like a friendly match)

Maddy still seems in VF4 mode, but I attribute this to his lack of time on the game since his long hiatus. Rodney is beefing his Akira for FS guard break madness. [IMG]

46P hardly works against 66P cuz Akira can buffer online better. It's very difficult to do DE back when opponent's DE on block, instead of eating another SDE CH. Plus steeping gives Akira extra credit to do DE and 66P+K.

Agreed. The images displayed throughout all four videos are certainly clear with smooth animations. Plus the background music and sound effects come through the speakers clean.

Keep those videos of your recent VF5 sessions coming, Rod.

    Wait, this was online? [IMG]

@jerky: words competitive and online dont really mix..

ps. In my opinion it should work since StPm is easier to input than DE, but Im not going to argue. ANything can happen online.

Honestly I have zero clue what are the best wall combos or what are the max damage combos in VF5 for pretty much any character. If there are any max damage comes I know it's not intentional with the exception of the special Jacky combo from SDE into open stance P YOHO 1 frame delay PK. The only reason I know this combo is because I think it looks cool. [IMG] I've said it 1,000 times already. Although I play VF5 I don't really like it. I play it cause it's VF and it's the only fighter I'm good at. Due to the limited features in training mode I just learn what I need to as I go. Anyone who knows me from previous VFs can tell you that I love training mode and can spend hours in there each day. Currently if someone beats me down I just study up on the character and visualize why and how I lost and what can I do to turn things around.

    - your CH SDE combos need improving [IMG] Was your doublepalm rusty?

I wouldn't say it's rusty. I was using the combo for numerous reasons. When you are under severe pressure sometimes it's best to be safe than sorry. I botch a few DBL combos, so instead of forcing it and losing damage I went for what I knew wouldn't fail. The times where I felt I could land it I did go for it.

    - Im surprised either of you guys didnt use the elbow sabaki more, considering the amount of DE's and SDE's flying around. Honestly I didn't know 46P beats DE or SDE because it takes more damage. I used 2P mainly because Maddy uses counter attack and shoulder better than I do. I don't know how you didn't notice that sometimes I 2P and other times I went for SDE. But you are right to an extent I should apply the best move for the situation. But you are also wrong because text book play is what separates the winners from the losers in VF5. If you all haven't notice... scrubby play = WINZZZZZ!!!!!

    - Maddy seemed to have trouble punishing your evades, which seemed to be determining factor on many matches.

This is simply not true. It's expected that someone will always guess better in a session. I guess that day was my day because last time I play Maddy he destroyed my evades. The only thing I could say was I definitely was putting much more effort into making the right guess with my evades.

    - [4][3][P]+[G] if you want a simple followup, Id use [6][6][P] instead of sidekick, since DE on normal hit is +4 as opposed to sidekicks +0. Also Im not sure sidekick is a combo anymore after RBC (As in, used to be in vf4).

Side kick seems to work on pretty much anyone except for Aoi and Lau. There might be others but really I'm not sure. Middles kicks were being used on both ends simply to make up for latency. While I understand that you should always do what's guaranteed and what's best for a situation you should always be willing to compensate and adjust. I guess this is why it irks me when people complain about online. VF is all about adjusting. You think I don't get pissed when 46P is guaranteed and it gets evaded or defended. So what do I do, I adjust! Instead of 46P I go for PK. Yeah it changes the game, but again VF is about adjusting. No different than the example I used above about how I was botching DBL combos. Why force something that you know just won't work? Adjust and make up for it some place else.

Maybe you should play more people who guess on a higher level and you might understand what was going on a little better. While my offense is ok, Maddy's is 10 times better than mines. The spastic moments was us fighting for advantage, but as safe as we can do it. He doesn't want to defend because he prefers offense and I sure as hell don't want him attacking.

I hope this feedback is taken as constructive. WAtching next vids now and editing as appropriate.

I've never been a person who didn't welcome criticism. Honestly more people should open themselves to it in all areas of their life. Sometimes the one thing you don't want to hear is the one thing that can truly make you a better person or in our case a better gamer. Try it sometime!

ps. Im putting together a new computer, hopefully Ill be able to do some quality videocapture with it and cap my vf fights too. I want to do it, but I dont have the means atm.

    Go for it!!!

Yes Manji. According to the first video, it's recorded online. Connection was supposed to be decent but it's still online.

Typically, 46P is a good choice but it's high, which means you have to worry about 2P abare. Both of them are fast so I believe no one would take a chance.
