Yeah, I thought the "main boss" fight was a little dissapointing (too short). I would've liked it better if they shortened the main fight scene in favor of more Lucy Liu action at the end.

Yea, the last fight scene was dissapointing, and portrayed Lucy Lui's character as being a bit of a push-over.

I actually thought Lucy Lui was really poor in the film overall. She's didn't convince me her character was a cold-blooded assasin, and during some of her scenes I was reminded of that annoying bint she plays in Alley MacBeal - she needs to drop that vacant stare into camera. Next to Uma she had little screen prescence, but then again Uma Thurman was absolutely amazing.

Looking back over the film, the absoluely best scene for me was the very first knife duel. That was some of the most intense and hillarious cinema I've seen. And very reminiscent of Pulp Fiction, as someone above already said.

ya i know the last fight scene was short but i dont think it portrayed Lucy Liu as a push over, i think she was takin it a bit easy on Uma and STILL got the nasty slash on her back and she could have finished her right there but she didn't...Then when she got up her sword really gave her the edge, slicing Lucy Liu's scabbard in half and making her change technique and stuff.

whats a scabbard? do you mean the katana sheath?
yeah true she was underestimating uma but the fight was uninspiring but i like the bit when lucy had the sheath and katana out and paused. I think waht bothered me was that she killed lucy lui, and so easily minus the slash to the back. Lucy is for now my favourite female acter/martial artist untill michelle yeah comes back with the sequel to crouching tiger or prequel i think it is?.
Anyone see her in 'the touch' what a pile of dogs poo poo.

also umas fighting wasnt to shabby, shes alot more flowing i guess then the keanu and co in the matrix, though i liked the fights, For some reason i didnt feel very close to umas charachter and felt more of an affinity towards the enemies. Probably because we hardly know anything about her besides the massacre and her know as 'the bride'. Wheras lucy luis story was explained in manga and vevicia had a kid. It was sad to see the lil girl witnessing her mother being murdered
Do you guys think uma was lucky to get past the school girl, i loved the ball and chain might try it out myself.

Actually, O-Ren Ishii's scabbard/sheath gets chopped off early in the fight scene, way before she eventually slashes The Bride across the back. Overall I thought that fight scene was more ceremonial, with the assasins showing more respect to one another.

Just to echo other people's remarks, I thought Lucy Lui was the least inspiring of all the assassins, and her Japanese dialogue was painful to listen to (I thought Uma's was better!). I just didn't buy the whole geisha front she had going, and her transition from sweet to sour failed miserably, especially when you compared her to Gogo. Maybe they should have portrayed all her scenes as anime.

I watched it a second time and noticed the error with the bullet hole in the wall (someone already mentioned this). I also found it cute that the name of the cereal was KABOOM! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

ya oops i had the scabbard timing off but i also did love teh kaboom cereal, i noticed that before she even shot and i knew she was gonna pull something, and i was also the one to mention the bullet hole. What was up with that? do you think it was done on purpose for some strange reason? i dont get how they could miss such a huge thing in editting.

It was done for its comedic value obviously. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You telling me you've never seen a director do something like that?

well not really, i dont know , it didn't seem to overly obvious to be for comedic value. I was the only one that really noticed it out of the people i saw it with.

yeah lucy lius acting wasnt that great, she seems destined forever to remain as ling from ally mcbeal. But im still a fan of hers though she is kinda 1 dimensional in the acting department. Cant deny she kicks ass. i loved the bit when she ran up to the guy in her lil flip flops and sliced the guys head, hilarious. Seemed like forever for her to get to the guy.

    Really overrated movie imo.

Thinking Japan is cool doesn't make a good movie.
Saying fuck alot and raising the tone of your voice doesn't make a good (or cool) dialog.

Is having enough money to rent Woo-ping Yuen as a martial arts choreographer all that it takes to make a movie these days and then just fuck all else? I would hope not. If it weren't for Yuen and the fact that people know this movie was made by the Tarrantino this movie would be utter shite. Just think about it.

    Kisses and hugs, bash on.

The fact that it's a Tarrantino film should've warned you the emphasis would be style over substance. I didn't expect any more from Kill Bill and was able to enjoy it for its action and aesthetics alone.

I actually thought the film worked because, unlike Tarantino's other films, this one had a huge stamp plastered on it reading "comic-book violent action flick - watch with a handful of salt".

If you want to see a truly shite Tarantino flick watch Reservoir Dogs. This film was pretty vile, imo, because it mixed realistic violence and style with a fairly serious everyday scenario. Seeing some guy dressed like a Blue's Brother dance around a stricken police officer and remove his ear wasn't cool, just sick.

That's why I think Tarrantino should stick to making adolescent action films - he's basically an ovegrown geek with a love for violence and IMO dosen't have the maturity to tackle more serious content.

Elements like this in a movie are supposed to be sutble. Not in your face "here! CHECK THIS OUT! MY CEREAL BOX SAYS 'KABOOM!!' AND I HAVE A GUN IN IT!!..."

First of all you don't know what I did expect when watching the movie. But yeah, call me old fashion for wanting a good script, a story, and acting that isn't laughable when watching a movie.
Oh wait... No no! remember he ment it that way! It's Tarantino remember! Look at the detail omfg did you notice the cereal package?! Genious I say!!!...

According to you yeah. Imho he's just a smart buisness man cashing in on a pop asian trend while trying to live up to a reputation. You probably think he had written a Chinese girl to play Japanese for the Lucy Liu part from the start aswell right? Or that none of the "aesthetics" was to get a lower MPAA rating right? Or that the movie was split up making it even worse from the start?
He never was a really good director for starters imo, but a pretty good writer... you know,.. the "substance" thingy.

He's written True Romance , Natural Born Killers and Reservoir Dogs .

At the end of the day watch whatever makes you happy - I hear from Dusk 'till Dawn isn't to "vile".

Kisses and Hugs (of to Japan to get myself a sword now).

Just somwe thoughts/observations on the movie:

    1. The whole scene where people are fighting against the blue light with the screen and characters as shadows is stolen from a 1996 Japanese film called "Samurai Fiction" (which recently came out on DVD). If the scene had only lasted a monent, I could have accepted it as a tipping of the hat, but since it was a long scene from a relatively obscure film, I'll call it a rip-off.

    2. While Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu do have horrible Japanese, that french girl spoke excellent Japanese as far as I could tell, pretty impressive (is this why there were so many scenes of here talking on a cell phone?).

    3. during the big fight scene, it'd appear that they're in some kind of Ryokan or other traditional Japanese structure (the garden outside is another clue). As people who've seen the film can tell you, at one point (in what I consider to be the coolest fight sequence in the film), a broken chair plays a crucial role because it has a bunch of nails sticking out of the end. But, as anyone who knows about Japanese carpentry can tell you, they don't use nails to build things in Japan, esp. not in a traditional building like the one in the film. I ran this by a Japanese friend to see if I was just being too much of a nerd, but he also agreed that nails would be out of place. Mainly, I noticed because it was a kind of anti-climactic end to a cool fight.

    Overall, I liked the film.

When to see this last night (in my Game Of Death suit of course! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and man it rocks my world /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I found it very entertaining and was constantly on the edge of my seat throughout the film.

The bits i enjoyed the most were the anime scene, the tribute to A.Kurosawa (when the fight scene turned B&W in the Jananese Restaurant/culb), Gogo (droooooooooooooooool /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif), Hanzo had me in stitches, Goro Daimon /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif, the Skit music and all the music was GUTTER /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif, done by the one and only Ruler Zig-Zag Allah commonly known as The RZA and everything else God damn it. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Really really enjoyed the film and cant wait for the next part /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey, I only said Reservoir Dogs was vile....strong language I know, but that's the impression it left me with.

I'm not a big fan of the films you mentioned either, and like I said before I thought Kill Bill was his best film yet for the reasons I already set out. It was violent and stylish with a very basic plot to orchestrate it Perfect for Tarrantino.

the french woman who spoke excellent japanese is julie dreyfus who, shes french but she studied japanese and has done tv work and other media stuff in japan so yes shes fluent. She also auditioned japanese acters whilce doing kill bill so she has a minor cast credit to her name in the film.

Also i thought lucy lius charachter was chinese/japanese american????, all i can say is mother aint just stayin at home baking bread.
