I think the main thing to remember is that there are many many many really good players in Japan that have not been recognized by people in the west simply because they don't see any clips or hear about them. Many of the more recognized players are famous because they've had a history with past VF games. Players like Chibita and Segaru were well recognized players since the VF3 days. This is why the spot light is already on them since the beginning of the VF4 days, especially since they are also very good players in VF4, and with kumite and tournament records like chibita and segaru, people in the west tend to think they are the TOP players. This is not the case however, especially now, during the end of the VF4 days. Many many new players have caught up to the levels of players like chibita or segaru, but they are not recognized unless you actively watch and track every arcade's activity in Japan. Players like hanabi lei, fu~do, or hideo wolf are also very good players, yet they do not receive nearly as much exposure.

For those reasons, I would have to say that although it's often a hard call, it entirely within the realm of possibility that some of these players whom you've never heard of before may turn out to be the next big thing in VF. Look at KS2, Minami came out of the blue (for the US folks) and took out everyone with seemingly little effort. He went from nothing to the best in the eyes of most of the US players, but it's obvious he was a bit well known already in Japan prior to KS2. It wouldn't surprise me if some random player that people have not heard of beats the likes of Homestay, Haijin, Kashin, Mukki, or Segaru to take the crown at KS3. With that said, I'm still hoping for a KS revenge by Segaru.

p.s. I promise the tournament chart will be updated and corrected translation wise before KS3 this weekend.

KS3 will be broadcast live on Monday, Japan time. I'll update the home page news post with the relevant links when they become available.

Just to add to Srider's list of players to watch:

Fuuraibou (Jacky): I made some mention of him in my recent Japan reports. He's an incredibly strong Jacky player and I'm willing to bet he'll go far in this tournament.

Brimum (Pai): Some of you may remember an old 7-on-7 movie where a Lion player single handedly wiped out the opposing team, well that Lion player is Brimum, who is now playing Pai. Expect some stunning play from this guy!

I got a question. Will KS3 also be broadcasted on the videogame channel. Because if so then I could go to my friends and watch it there.

    .........

I am 99.9% sure the only way to view it outside of Asia is by streaming it over the internet.

The English brackets have been updated with the full list of names now.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch this live, can anyone save it for those of us that will miss it? Thank you.

I'll try to record this with streamdown if I can clear up some space on my drive.

Hopefully the matches will be available on am.sega.jp a few days afterwards.

Everytime there is a Japan VF tournament, people always have problems viewing or streaming the data, i think a nice faq is essential. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here are the key things to remember in order to watch the stream.

You NEED to have installed Windows Media Player 9 or higher.

Since the streaming is tentatively scheduled to be broadcasted at 500Kbps, you will likely need to have DSL or Cable modem to be able to watch the stream.

Remember that since the number of simultaneous streams will be limited to a certain number, it is recommended that you begin the streaming before the tournament actually starts so you have a connection.

In the event that anything goes wrong with the streaming, and it is possible due to network irregularities, there is nothing that Sega can promise or guarantee, so you can only hope for the best. Remember the live streaming is only planned, if something goes wrong it can be canceled without notice.

One last thing to do is to go to the Tools menu in Media player, then go to options. Under the network tab, uncheck the http box under streaming protocols. Once you have done this, you can click on the following link to test if you can receive the streaming correctly.

Streaming Test for Kakutou Shinseiki 3

This will connect you to a mock streaming of the event, which is actually a clip from Otemi Haiken 3.

If this test stream works, then remember to check back to this thread or even the front page Sunday night around 10:30 E.S.T for the link to the live event. Have fun. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Cool stuff! I'm sure this will help alot of peeps out there, including me. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Although I will try to capture the tourney using Streamdown and with any luck the connection will run through without any disruption. Plus with Dandy_J's brilliant faq v065, just click the Streamdown icon, sit back and enjoy! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK now that the tournament is a day away, let's all be huge dorks and pick finalists!

Who I want to win: Chofu KK Sarah!

After reviewing the brackets, I think final 4 will be

    Itazan
    Kashin

    Haijin
    KING

Itabashi will beat Hajin in the final.

(yes I honestly think there will be no Kagays in the final 4!)
