lag is asymmetric. Games like Winning Eleven switch host each half to compensate for this. So one side will have advantage first, then switches to maintain fairness.

If you've been on xbox live long in other games you should know that mic communication you always hear at a delay. You can't judge anything from the mic.

Also, according to srider, if lag is assymmetric, the host should be having the advantage. Your case is backwards, because you say he always hosts, and his side always has the lag. Usually lag in multiplayer games is on the players that link to the host (although I've never heard of this in 1 on 1, only when there are more players connecting).

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I evade a linear move, Mr.Experts chouwan in this case, I hear Akira yell for succesful evade, then I GET HIT WITH THE CHOUWAN THAT I JUST SUCCESFULLY EVADED. This is just clear and blatant bullshit. End of. And this wasnt even a singular case, I have had this happen to me several times recently. I evade a single linear move, get successful evade, and get hit with the attack. If both sides would lag the exact same amount (which I no longer believe) how could this happen? </div></div>

What you are saying here has nothing to do with lag. Lag can't cause something to go back and be "re-registered" as something else. If the game says you got successful evade, that means it was registered on both consoles. It could be that you are attacking too early after the evade or that pressed any button including block, which would make the move now track to you. Myke explains this in another thread where people were complaining about the same thing happening offline.

You havent given ANY reasons why it couldnt happen, other than the normal "no it is impossible" bullshit I hear enough of in real life, and Im trying to avoid using harsh words here so I go to bed now.

I have played VF5 with veteran vf-friends offline since it was introduced on PS3 last february. (not to mention played VF since vf2) I think I know what happens with succesful and non-succesful evade.

I am not Japanese but I live in Tokyo. Just about everyone I know, including myself, are running 100mpbs fiber optic internet connections so lag doesn't come up often at all. I don't know if this is higher than other territories but I just thought I would pass along the info. Also, I have played numerous games over LIVE and the only time I experienced unplayable lag was when I was playing with people in Denmark, Finland or Spain. The U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia is usually no problem at all.

Wow...if this asymmetric connection thing is true, that answers a lot. For example, I'm having tons of trouble just connecting a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif after a knee, but sometimes in the same match the opponent doesn't have any problems doing a DLC, Basara, or whatever.

Ice, at the march gathering, you had trouble doing knee combos offline. :p

I know it's off-topic, but how much to subscribe to a 100mbps FO?

Is it available in US for the same speed and how much is it per month?

    Thanks /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I pay just under 7000 yen (about $65 or so) a month for my connection. About two years ago, there was a huge fiber optic push in Tokyo but BB is still the most widely used. I am not sure if it is available back in the U.S. or not. I hope it is, because I am going back to the U.S. for good around mid 2009. I don't want to downgrade. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

so this explains the great connection i get with japan. i too have fiber optics. verizon provides it in different packages. i have the 15mbps package with upload speeds of 15mbps, and download speeds of 2mbps for about $50/mo.

    I think those d/l & u/l speeds should be reversed. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Or maybe add a 0 after the 2mbps to make it 20 mbps d/l. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Let me get this strait, 65$ for 100 mbps download? how much is the upload?

In anycase, this compared to what USA is offering (50$ for only 10+ D/L)is a VERY good deal.

I forget right now what my Fios speeds are but uploads are much faster than downloads here as well.

To be honest, I have never actually run a throughput test on my connection. When I talked to the TEPCO guy that was installing it, he said that 100mbps was the max speed that was possible, but I seriously doubt that is strictly d/l. I have noticed if I download a torrent that my u/l is usually faster than my d/l, but not by a big margin.

Listed speeds are usually max speed and very rarely the actual speed is that high. Depends on ISP greatly.

    in general:
Yea I know Japan is laden with fiberoptic and their average network connection is great. This doesnt mean rats fart though since for example to play with me the pipe has to go through RUSSIA or something. The whole, entire, pipeline has to have good speed in order for the match to play well. Signal doesnt magically teleport over entire continents and oceans.

Im so tired of hearing so many people say the same thing. "I dont have problems, you must have bad internetconnection". BLARG.

This is not directed at the poster, Im just raving in general.

ps. you can test your local connection for example in here:
    http://www.speedtest.net/
This is not the final answer on how flawlessly you are playing vf with.

    For example,
me -> Estonia: 22 ping = 1,3 frames of lag.
me -> London: 118 ping = 7 frames of lag
me -> Okinawa: 684 ping which is about 41 frames of lag. No, of course distance doesnt matter! Jeez.

    From my first post:

"Also, I have played numerous games over LIVE and the only time I experienced unplayable lag was when I was playing with people in Denmark, Finland or Spain. The U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia is usually no problem at all."

    You read that...right?

shag you are correct! sorry for the confusion. UL = 2mbps & DL = 15mbps.

Is it just me or japanese players dont like it when you play them twice in a row? I got 3 different messages from 3 different players that all roughly translate to "why are you playing me again?" Cause, no one else is on maybe?
