It's time to play in SoCal

Let's get the International Competitors ready for Japan...

I think we should do that with some double elimination tournament action!
If we can agree on a tournament start time like 9pm, we can do everybody fight everybody else once to seed the brackets. Otherwise we start the tourney later and do random draw. If you plan to attend please post your preference.

Date: Friday, March the 5th, 2004 (March 12th is not possible).

    Time: 7:30 pm till...

Place: Riverside, CA. PM for directions and phone numbers if you need them.

What we provide: Three TVs (one needs RF modulator), US PS2 with Evo, Japanese PS2 with Evo, two evo sticks, two ASCII sticks, fridge full of soda, couple or three bags of chips, places to sit, room for five or six VF setups.

What you all need to bring: Biggest TVs (like the TEXAS TV - YAY!) you can come up with and fit in your car (remember, it's better to have too many), POWER STRIPS, your PS2s, your sticks, your evo discs, and an RF modulator for one of our TVs.

What about food? Everyone usually chips in for food. Lots of fast food in area plus we found a new, less expensive pizza that tastes good! Last time we had Pizza Hut cause it was the only place open after 10.

Who's gonna be there? Well, in the past we've had Spotlite, Andy, Joey, Mike90210, vf4akira, LPC73, Gribbly and Team Pandemic (Austin, Forrester, Jimmy), Team Tokyo Mafia (PhoenixDth, Sean, GoatCheeseBlues), sgtsmurf, SillyWilly, Joon, Weslyzm, Ken_I, Rikyu, KTallguy, Adam, Banes, Jake, Harlock, and many more! Sometimes 14 people at once with five set ups running!

    That fucking rocks!

Maybe this time we'll get six setups going.

Please post your intent to show up right here on this thread - makes it more exciting for all the fence sitters out there - and it's easier for us to plan the beverage purchase.

Last gathering ran strong all night. It's time to do that again. The International competitors need your support. Come, kick their asses hard so they can go to Japan really fired up.

One last thing... If anyone wants to get a hold of Nordic (AI Thomas) or tomhilfiger, please go right ahead. I don't think they've ever been to my house before, but they're most welcome.

Round Robin for seeding? hmmm...might take a while but I'm up for it, although I'd rather go with seeding based on previous tourney results as it's usually done where I'm from...
I like the idea and am definitely going to show up...

To da Socal team who are going to Japan, PM me your ring names. I'm just gonna sign us up. I'm not gonna bother with "hoping" we're in the tourney. As long as we're all confirmed to be there, then it should be good to go. You'll just be considered from Okinawa/Kyushuu region of Japan. heheh

I think things will stop before 3pm Saturday, but you never know. Also, you get bonus points if you get Mike to come.

Alex, bring the TV. It's an important contribution. Thanks for your help. Sorry your PS2 is being wierd.

To everyone: After talking things over with Catherine, we've figured out a system for Ironman Round Robin (with everyone playing everyone else twice) that should go very quick with four set-ups running.

    Rules:

    No character changes.

Each Round Robin match up will be one game, 3 out of 5 fights.
The person seated for their Ironman chooses 1p or 2p side.
Once the order is determined, any byes go to the top seeds.
Top seed will be pitted against the middle seed in the first round of the tourney. 2nd seed faces one below middle, on down to one above middle facing the bottom seed.

Tourney will be double elimination, 3 out of 5 fights.
Top seed in any bracket match except the final gets to choose 1p or 2p side

Finals will be 4 out of 7 fights.
First final round, competitor from winners bracket gets to choose 1p or 2p side.
If there is a second final round, the competitor from the losers bracket gets to choose 1p or 2p side.

    Mike can't go (LAME)!

I might hitch a ride with my other VF Buddy that plays Goh. We play each other way too frickin much, so we probably blow. That's all good though =) However, it depends on his work schedule... so I might not be able to go.

If I can go, I'll bring my PS2, my copy of EVO and my sticks, I unfortunately don't have a TV to offer. I'll do the tournament thing but I'm really just looking forward to seeing you all again (if I can go, that is). Shit, I'm gonna call that fool right now ...

Thanks for the invite Plague, I'll PM you if I'm able to go.

If its the "disc read error", I had that problem too. I had to reset the unit several times before it read the disc. It is fixable though. There are sites that explain what you need to do. I forgot the site I checked out. But for some reason my version of the console was whack and didn't apply to what the instructions said but it explained the basic concept of the problem. The distance between the laser and the disc needs to be adjusted. It could be very easy depending on your version. Was pretty hard for me but I eventually fixed it with a piece of a Q-tip stem. Now the unit will read my disc the first time around. Occasionally, I'll have to reset it but it works after one reset.

Don't know if I can make it this friday night. Might be there saturday morning though /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Man, long drive. Damn, gas is getting expensive though aint it!

well, i already tried to gear thing, but it seems im running out of gears to turn too. The irony of this is that 90% of my other games work fine. Its just VF evo and one other game i dont remember.

Btw i am not sure if i can provide a TV on friday night. There might be a chance i might leave for SD that night. So it all depends on chance =P

Your TV would LOVE a road trip to SD /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hopefully you can bring it. If not, I don't think anyone would give you too hard a time about it.

What's up guys. It's been a loooong time. School's crazy like usual, but not as bad as before. I'm hoping to meet with you guys soon. The schedule is still the same for me; Saturday nights work better than Friday nights. I have no classes on Thursday, so Thursday nights would be great (although I know it probably wouldn't work well for you guys).

And you can add one to the roster. I've actually convinced my DBZ-fan friend to buy Evo rather the Budokai 2. He's given VF a serious try, and now he's hooked. Right now, he uses Pai, and Vanessa. I told him about the meets, so the next time I go, I'll bring him along with me if he isn't busy. He's trying to get his brother into VF, but he won't give it a good chance. He says that "any game that you won't like right off the bat isn't worth it", and that "if you have to give it such a long chance, then it really isn't that good because you'd like any game if you played it enough". Oh well. I'm working on another friend, who's interested because he likes Judo, so I've told him about Goh.

Until next time. Take care. I wouldn't be able to make it tomorrow. But I'll keep checking here to see when you guys have another meet. Shang's "once-a-month vf player" is making me hang my head in shame. That kinda applies to me /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif...but oh well. School's almost as important as VF anyway /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

Yes, new meat. Hopefully that'll mean I can win a game once in awhile and maybe I won't be the last seeded person in whatever tournament is held at the occasional meets. Ah yes, I do take comfort in other people's suffering.

    Cheers

Don't worry, I'm bringing my scrubby self, and I'm coming with a scrubby friend (actually we're both too used to playing eachother), so we'll all be fighting for last place. =P

    Can't make it. I know, I know...you guys don't care /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My work sent me an X-Arcade stick and am reliving the last 20 years of fighting games. Anything with punching and kicking and I'm in. Hell, I've even been reaching down to Pocket Fighter and MKII on the PS1.

But yes, also some most excellent VF4Evo action.

And crap...I guess I'll catch the SoCal social NEXT time.

So, I infer your job is to test the X-Arcade Stick.

Well, if your employer wants to give X-Arcade some advice based on your testing, just say "this stick will always be crap until you use Sanwa arcade parts," and be done with it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Then you can come play.
