okay, there's a blue, red, white, and green book...all these colors are confusing

I heard either Andy or Spotlite say that there was a definite guide book, prolly most recent and updated...however I can't remember which one
I know a few places that may carry these, but I'd rather find out online than have to drive ridiculous distances and go through LA traffic during rushhour

btw, you know if stores are open in LA this monday?
    $7 for parking sucks!!!

I don't think that'll ever happen. I know someone that works there, and I think they are kinda pissed that no one plays evo there anymore.

Well, things might have gone differently had they upgraded to version B.

Re: It's time to play in SoCal

I think that all the people in Socal who are interested getting together and coming up with a way to get the board is our only hope of getting to play FT.

We could either do one of 3 things, as I see it (this is all assuming the game will be sold as a GD-Rom, as Evo was, that will work with an existing cabinet):

    1. Try to convince AI to get it. Slim chance without us coming up with part of the money. We could offer to pay for 1/2 of the cost of the game, and let them charge us to play (maybe at like 2 to start, 1 to continue from the get-go?). The game could be purchased FROM JAPAN by us/our contacts in Japan, to ENSURE that we're able to get the inevitable Version B. AI should have gotten version B for free, but since they got their Evo from China, they weren't able to get the free upgrade (this is how it was told to me by Nordic). The good thing about this option is that the game'll be in a public place, where everyone can use it whenever they want.

    2. Make an offer to buy AI's existing Evo set-up, then up-grade it ourselves. Since it seems that AI is making no money on Evo, perhaps they'd like to sell the whole set-up, or just the Board, GD-Rom & Card Readers. We could then purchase the game ourselves and upgrade, not having to pay any additional $ to play. This is probably the most expensive option, and where it would be kept is an issue.

    3. Upgrade Myself, Andy, Mike & Joey's US Evo Naomi 2 to play FT. I've heard this is possible, and our board came with a wiring diagram that shows how to wire up a GD-Rom drive. We'd just need the Disc, the Drive, and I think some kind of security chip that allows regional bypass. This option would be relatively cheap, and no paying to play, but we'd hav to buy the card readers if we wanted them, and cabinets (unless we wanted to play on TV's with rigged sticks again).

If I remember correctly, the Evo Disc when it was new was about $3000. "Summer" could be anywhere from May to September, but i'm guessing it'll come out in June/July. That gives us anywhere from 3 to 6,7 months to save up.

If there are 10 of us pitching in, at 3 months, that's $100 a month until May/June. If it isn't coming until August/Sept, it could be done for about $50/month. If you can save to go to Japan, you can save for FT!

Or, we could always keeep our fingers crossed for a home version.

Re: It's time to play in SoCal

I would consider getting the 2 cabinets at AI if both would be 1000k. Someone else has to spring for the funds for FT. Also if I get the cabinets, the cabinets stay with me. In other words meets will be at my pad...or I would allow Talis to keep them till I get enough room, but they stay in one place.

But that being said I think the better idea would be to help A.I. pay for it. One token to start and continue

Re: It's time to play in SoCal

    Brian,

I could be wrong here, but I don't think AI would sell the cabinets for $1000. They usually sell used Japanese cabinets (that I'm sure are in much worse shape) for between $3-400, so that'd be $6-800 just for the cabs, then the N2, GD-Rom drive, Game, Card readers etc for $200? I'm not saying we sholdn't try, but I doubt they'd let their $4000-6000 investment go for that low. Currently, Evo version B discs alone are selling for about $1000 in Japan (that figure probably plumetted yesterday), and the N2, Drive, Cabs etc could all easily be used for other games by AI.

It's generous of you to offer to pay the $1000 for the cabs, but to be honest, I don't think anyone else will go for your idea: basically we buy the game and you keep it at your house /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. When the 4 of us got the Evo board, we rotated it around between people; I think that's best for everyone. Even if we did somehow end up with a big, bulky Vs Ciy set-up to move around, I have a pick up, and would be glad to move it for people.

Like you, the more I think about it, I also think the best idea is to try to pitch in with AI to get the game. It's cost effective, game's in a public place, nice cabinets, cards.

We have a lot of time to convince them /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    1) Haha..suckas. No, I didn't "get any"...but I did help solidify it for the future. I'm in my "don't call, let her want you" mode. You know, with Champions of Norrath being out, I should be taking time off of women ANYWAY!

    2) Good luck with the VF4FT stuff! Should I be e-mailing AI to beg them to get it?

    3) Any upcoming meets I should know about?

    4) www.BlackMarketKittens.com - thought you knew!

I was talking cabinets only...Hopefully with reader. The others will get the game seperately.

Anyways... Im going to AI tonight and see if I can find AI Tom. See what he thinks maybe relay a messge because sometimes I think they just shake there heads without really knowing what Im saying. For now we will ask if they are going to get it... If it starts looking bleak we could say that we will help pay the costs. Maybe make a deal if we split it with AI we get 1 token to start and continue and if there are any tournaments we are able to use the machines anytime,,,, Evo 2k4 /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, I'm up for it. I'll figure out a date and post about it soon.

I'm thinking we should have some tournament action.
