1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

is an 8.1 from gamespot justified?

The thing is that most people aren't even looking for that many extras. Most want just TWO extras, maybe three.

    1) Evo training style Dojo back
    2) Transferable profiles on mem cards
    3) Some online functionality to fully utilize VFTV (including replay transfers)

1 is easily doable, since it's been already done. There's no reason 2 shouldn't be doable. Just these two things increase the appeal to everyone, hardcore or not, by many times. 3 would be icing on the cake, at least in an attempt to keep up with the times. I doubt that these could just not be implemented. Most people ask for too much to improve a certain game. All we want is 2 or 3 things, and they still don't deliver? I just hope that people who don't have much comp will still somehow find a way to enjoy this game, because there's no other way to fully enjoy what this game offers currently without competition.

Viper I agree with you 100%; however, how long would you have waited for all of those features? Six months, a year, more? Personally I was getting really bored of playing Evo. Hell I was so bored of it that I wasn't playing it at all anymore.

So to me, although I would have liked what you suggested, I'm happier with just getting it sooner.

I agree. The wait was terribly painful. If VF5 Evolution comes out and has all this stuff, then cool. If not, oh well.

Remember people, Evo had all that stuff included, cost twenty bucks, was light years beyond any other fighting game out there, and still did not become a huge seller or anything. With PS3's tiny installed base, how much difference are VF5 features going to make?

And it was the second version of basically the same game, on the same console.

I'm waiting for the 360 release. I don't have a PS3 nor will I be getting one. So I have all the time in the world to wait lol, and I'm really crossing my fingers that these six months will be put to good use for the 360 port. But having experience from both DoA and Ninja Gaiden, it is most definitely better to wait for the devs to do their best job and then release a great final product which doesn't feel rushed. I'd rather have a delay at this point, even though it does hurt.

Jeff Gerstmann is a Tekken-fanboy. He didn't bash T5 much for not having online play (T5 got 9.2) (I don't got anything against Tekken, I like the series just as much as VF).
Next-gen doesn't necessarily mean that online play should be avaiable, at least not for me. I prefer the arcade feel of meeting up with your friends, and bashing, shit-talking and humiliating each other.

At least there could be implemented a feature to download Version C items, for your PS3 version.

I don't care if Gerstmann doesn't review Virtua Fighter 5 properly, he's just a scrub anyway.

To be fair, Akira's fighting style does at least LOOK as close to karate as anything in VF gets. At least he didn't call him a kickboxer or something. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm pretty satisfied with VF5. The AI is fine once you switch it to Hard (on Normal it's laughably bad, and I'm by no means a pro). The game's beautiful, well-animated, and gameplay is of course stellar.

Lack of extras? Eh, who cares. If I wanted to play Tekken Force (hint: I don't), I'd get Tekken. I'd love a better Dojo mode (I really liked that Evo's free training mode would display the guaranteed combos from each launcher, taking into account your opponent and so forth), but it'd be mostly academic. I already know the game mechanics, so it's not really a big deal (unfortunate decision for new players, though).

Quest mode is MUCH better than it was in Evo (hurray for being able to go to better arcades immediately instead of being forced to fight 10th kyus for hours), customizability is better, and the game overall is improved. Once I get a stick (*grumble* at lack of backwards compatibility), I'm golden.

You have to keep in mind that reviews are aimed at the public in general. Does VF5 have a lot to recommend it to Joe Player? I don't know. Does it provide enough to VF fans? Hell yes.

I just saw that a few minutes ago and was going to post it... ninja'd.

Funny how both games are ranked a "8." Looks like they look for flaws in VF and the good points in TDR. Bias of reviewers?

Though I must say, I've been having some fun with Bryan Fury lately...

They already had the really good game. All Sega did was port it. Besides most developers try to aim for both. . . and I like to eat my cake.

Geez, Gerstman does suck at VF. The video is funny. It's like reading a review for Super Mario Bros, only to find out that when the reviewer plays the game he gets killed by the first Goomba in World 1-1 every time.

Gerst is a cheap beer made in Evanville, Indiana that tastes like fizzy yak piss.

That good game wasn't available in the west.
It's not like you can walk down the street and play it in the arcade.

I'm not saying it justifies a shitty port, but people are talking as if the game is nothing new to them.

It's a new game to the west, and should be treated as such.

Overall, how awesome is VF5? As is, is it in the top 10% of games that will come out this year? Top 5%? Top 1%?

I say top 1%. The core vs. mode is totally mondo. And I do mean totally.

The inclusion of Wolf's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif against the wall warrants a 9.0 just by itself.
