I'm also not a fan of Vane's redesign (I love the counter-sexy/not-overtly-sexy female designs in games), her thighs are still bulky as some have noted, but those wee arms seem incapable of the massive slugging she can deliver (DS/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif ala 'Mighty' Mo with those arms?). And her becoming lighter seemed weird to me. Then again, I booted up VF4E two weeks ago again and was a bit weirded out by her look just the same, it seems to me I idealized it a bit over time and am wondering if others aren't doing the same. She needed a redesign, but not this drastic.

As for Eileen not having sex-appeal: she's based on a Japanese anime standard that's considered sexy/appealing by many, not the big boobs/long hair appeal but rather the young/bouncy/happy thing.

 

dude I'm totally elitist about my fighting games don't get me started. Through the years vf had just stayed above such things and I was proud of it for staying true to it's roots. It just makes me a little sad that it gave in to objectifying women. At least before the women were kinda wearing clothes that a real fighter would wear. Now (i'm thinking of one of pai's and sarah's outfits) it's not quite the same. It's alright that they did it, I understand why, doesn't mean I liked it. It also makes it harder for girls to pick these type of games up when they see girls dressed like that too. It gets them all huffy.

 

hmm.. i like Vanessa's 'new' look.. i havent played the prior versions but i have seen pics and vids of them.. the look is much more 'mainstream' and a hell of a lot more flexible..

I mean if my sister were to play this game, she'd love the customization and the cute items you can add to your character.

 

I think there was another thread about vane's VF5 looks; i'd like to remind you that these changes are supposed to be justified in the story ( /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif ) by her being kidnapped and brainwashed-trained-cloned-whatever. Yet i still i have conflicting feelings about this, so I'm waiting for Zerochan to reply.

One thing is sure, i preferred her old voice /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

 

I haven't noticed much change in her appearance. She's still the same ol' bulky-back, big-calf, Black woman I remember from VF4evo. She reminds me of my chick, just with a larger, manlier body.

 

I like her new body and looks much better, as well as her new voice. In 4EVO I felt I was using a transvestite character or a dyke, now she's definitely a good looking girl. I like her skin tone better now too, I don't think she has to be black. She has a tanned skin item you can unlock to make her look like VF4 though.

Girls have to look as hot as they can in a game --that is without falling into a DoA-style thing.

Really, she looks more like a spy type character. Still able to mete out the damage, but when it calls for it, to move faster than sin. Think of her now as a black Jane Bond.

From a marketing standpoint we should have expected this. They needed to make her more palatable to the Japanese gamers, which play VF more than American gamers. And her more feminine but dangerous appearance fits for attracting the new gamers.

However I don't see how the change to a more sexy style should push the female gamers away when they have something to go for more than just beating their opponets to the ground with the customization and all that. Of course, a female gamer that's not interested in the fighter genre period isn't likely to get excited even if they objectified all the men into Chippendales dancers.

 

Nah, I think the new Vanessa is great. I mean she's a woman she deserves a feminine and at the same time tough look. I think it worked out perfectly.

 

I'm kinda happy about the changes they made, because EVO Vane's look was boring. Her voice is the only problem I have with her...

 

Bah, who cares as long as the tropical suntan item is there, now that i found it and gave her the gatling gun and assult rifle she's back to being <s>the amazon goddess i came to adore</s> her old black panther self.

Have you guys noticed the increased sex-appeal in Eileen's new costumes? If I'm not mistaking, they have her wearing stockings and a skirt.

I'm currently using Eileen while she wears sandals, yellow shorts and a pony tail. It's about the sexiest I could get her. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

 

It's nice to have elitism from your series (speaking from AM2's perspective)... until it starts losing you money at the bank - console sales, and arcade sales to the tekken series (as much as you'd like to deny it, VF is NOT played everywhere in Japan to the extent people say it is... at least not between June and August, when I was there - seemed mainly played in Tokyo and only in Club Sega arcades.

Believe it or not, DOA is the fighter MOST played by females. I don't get it myself, but online there are a ton of girls playing DOA. I think they actually LIKE it when girls are pretty and feminine looking, because that is what they want to look like themselves.
