Well, I got my final copy of the game today, and it looks like our fears/observations were true: there is no way for people to use characters from 2 different system files mentioned in the game or manual (the manual even describes what Srider has pointed out, everything functions off memory card port 1 etc).

First off, I think what's needed is a real organized effort by everyone who cares to make sure this problem is FIXED in the future releases (I think it's already too late for the Euro release, actually). I have a friend at SOA, and with his permission, I'll see if we can write letters to SOA about getting this fixed.

This is a huge let down, and almost ruins the game IMO... guess we'll all be using generic character models at big gatherings like TiT.

I think this decision was made largely because of the VF culture in Japan being so different than the one here, and in Japan the PS2 version is basically just a training tool, real VF happens at the arcade. In addition, people usually don't spend a lot of time at each other's houses in Japan, much like NYC San Fran etc, here in the states. But, since the US VF scene is exactly the opposite (with some crews not even playing Evo until now), this must be changed...

Well, hopefully it isn't too late for the European version. I've been wondering about writing a mail for a couple of days, but I think I'll do it now. I'll post it on here when it's done.

(it's been ages since I posted on this board)

Let me know who to write and when, how could they downgrade from the last one? Were they taking drugs? /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Quick thought... while playing. I have noticed that there is a hidden VERSUS option in the the Options Menu. Im not sure what it is, but maybe there is hope. I still can't believe AM2 would make this kind of mistake

I'm almost sure that ????? is just the option to play hyper battle action mode in vs..... /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was wondering about the ???????????? in vs. select myself.

Also, it would appear that there are no ringname entries anymore, either. Correct? If true, this also supports the lack of custom character vs. battles with two memory cards.

So I guess we have to reconfigure the controls for our sticks before each match now? This will suck for tourneys, gatherings.

you can name your character in Quest Mode, just go to Edit, then Ringname.

Has anybody tried checking Japanese message boards? It might be something really stupid, like pressing L3 and R3 together or some other junk to load data from the second memory card (grasping at straws here...) /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The manual doesn't say anything about being able to load off the second card. Like spotlite said, the manual made a specific comment about how the save system was changed from the previous method of saving. I think it's time to give up on this issue and do something about trying to get it changed for the US release if there is one. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well we could all email Sega but maybe we should create a Lobby Sega topic to with simple general talking points for the US release in there.

Otherwise if we don't organize it might go by the wayside and we'll have a downgraded file system. /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I online all day at work and I've already been emailing Sega about bringing it here, so I'm willing to help anyway I can. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So who shall we mail? Presumably, Sega will have a US and Euro translation team, but they wouldn't be the ones who'd implement a new save file system, that'd have to be AM2. Anyone got an address we could email suggestions to AM2 at? The obvious one on their website is am2webmail@sega-am2.co.jp...
