You always tell me to turn on the game...how do you test all this stuff out...do you just use one move all day to test out different situations or what... /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

yeah what dean said... turn on the game, go to training, then free training.
Press start, change the cpu settings so that it's set to "counter" and then under advanced reaction settings, change getting up and rolling to "away from the screen". That's how I test combos... if a combo is real then the computer usually won't escape it if all those settings are turned on. There are some exceptions.

In the case of seeing whether df+P+K+G is any good for dodging attacks like sweep and stuff... just use record mode and record lau or someone doing a sweep against you. Then try to dodge it.

"ease" is completely relative. Alpha notation is widely used and understood. CreeD interchanges between the two (alpha and graphic) and I assume the reason is time and necessity. Either way, since you can write it yourself you've proven capable of reading it.

Don't get bent out of shape.

hmm I've managed demonlord with Shun now. My eyes have turned pink and my skin blisters when touched by sunlight etc etc.... oh and the tendonitis. One nice move Ive discovered for myself ( I imagine someone has posted this somewhere) is from the sitting position b+p+g goes into a handstand and immediately throws with surprising accuracy.

Yes, but it may be hard to if enemy comes running towars to you, there must be right distance and timing.
I rarely succeed with it. And if try it, i don't do from sitting postion, i jump right away to handstanding position ([6][3][2][1][4] or [8][P]+[K]) and then throw.
From sitting position usually do [2][K] or [4] [P]+[K]

This is the sticky thread, right? Okay so I decided to post this here because I didn't want to litter the boards with another shun thread when we have one here already...sorry for the long into...here goes.

There's a neat little mini-game you can play with Shun that may or may not be of dubious training value. Fight against a friend and make the winner the one who ends up with the most drinks, regardless of the "official" results...Unless you both end with 40, in which case the real winner wins. A friend (new to vf) and I (new to shun) did this for a couple of sessions just for kicks and ended up finding out in our more serious matches that our Shun's were getting more drunk and doing more damage than usual.

Try this out...it's fun and probably won't do irreparable harm to your Shun game.

Ugh, I just got this game fer Christmas, and I had no clue there was a drunken kung fu guy in it! I was actually reluctant to play this game over King of Fighters simply because I liked Chin the drunken guy...Imagine my suprise...

Anyways, I just wanna know if it's worth it to spend time drinking? So far I've made it to 1st dan by mostly using [8] or[2][P][G][K] and then doing a down hit. Sometimes I can pull off the throw [P][G]. Will drinking make me more powerful or something?

I suggest you do a search on the forums for any shun tactics and read them well. Any questions you have will probably be answered in one of these threads. If you are new to Virtua Fighter 4 than I also strongly suggest you do the "Trial" mode to see how the game works.

If you are serious about mastering shun I put up a guide at www.gamefaqs.com not to long ago as well:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/virtua_fighter_4_shun_a.txt (Gamefaqs does not allow direct links so you will have to copy the URL into your browser.)

As for your question the benefits of drinking are:
Some moves need a certain amount of drinks to use (ie:[P],[P],[2]+[K].[K] - 6 Drinks), and you will also gain +1% damage for every Drink Point (DP) you have, the maximum being 40% (40 drinks). Some moves also change their properties slightly so that they will float your opponent etc.

Many people believe that Shun is in the game soley upon comic relief. I believe he can be a very powerful character in which he is very deceptive and he can make any human opponent say "How the bleep" did that gaesar beat me!" The trick lies in between his stances, you gotta use em all. I find his best stance to be the lying down one. This is great against computer and human opponents. This can quickly go into low or high attacks leaving the opponent to guess what do guard against. A good move that keeps u in the stance is [6][K]. This can be done a second time if your opponent is really clueless as to what u are doing. Another advantage of this stance is that the CPU rarely understands what you are doing. When you are on the ground in this stance the CPU will constantly do a good percentage of high and mid attacks on you while hitting nothing but air. This leaves a good chance for you to keep on with those nasty combos like [K][P][2][K][K] and then the optional [G] to lie down. I recommend the lying down to the end of any move. Once again this adds another degree of deception, there are a lot of things to do when coming out of a the down position. I hope Shun's popularity grows because this guy is one hell of a fighter and of course a hilarious SOB. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I don't recommend using the [6][K] when in LD stance.
I don't pretend to be a proficient player, but seems to me that it leaves you far too open in every situation.
If the opponent blocks it, well it's evident that you're in trouble. If you connect and he falls you're still wide open for a low get up attack, or a TR follow up attack. I usually stick with either [K], followed with the combo, or [2][K].

First good advice i have yet to see in this thread. [6]+[K] from DS is a suck ass move. Use it very sparingly

Lonelyfighter: Thanks! first compliment I got on this board /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Here's a nice little setup (not really a combo) I like:
if you pull off Shun's [3][P][P][K] and you send your opponent to the ground, I suggest that you go in his Handstand position. The obvious reason is for the sake of your well earned DPs. The other one, the reason why I'm babling actually, is that if you manage to hop backwards (not necessary but helpfull) atlease once you can go for his Rolling Elbow Smash ( [P]+[K] ). If this connects well you're wide open for another [3][P][P][K] and you can start all over in your Handstand position. That's the simple option, and frankly very predictable. The fun part about this is you can "cancel" the Rolling Elbow with [G] wich will leave you in the LD position. Here your opponent has to guess mid or low. After a while of cancelling into the LD position you can not cancel and it might catch your opponent of gard.

Wow hope that made sense to someone...

I tend to stay in HS stance and try to beat their rising attack with HS [K]. Its very good with beating rising attacks almost on par with [4]+[K]+[G]. yours is a nice setup though worth trying every now and then.

PS. On my last post I meant [6]+[K] out of LD instead of DS like i said.

Have you ever noticed how stupid the computer is against [6][P]+[K]? I'm a TLord and I pull it off as my first 4 moves.

I guess its good advice for the beginner players; abuse [6][P]+[K] when facing the 'puter!

[6]+[P]+[K] is a pretty decent move beats all highs and is unpunishable. Just need to use it from range.

What do you use after the DS [2][K]? I usually go for either [3][P][P] on a lightweight, and [1][K][K] on the big boys. just wonderin' if you had better outs than this.
