Thanks fot the tip, and you are abosutely correct. Stay with the mid distance against Jhow is very important. But based on my experience, 66P+K is not guaranteed after Shun's 6P+K drinking. Shun still has the chance to do his 7P+K+G. Hopefully that's wrong because of lag~

    Hi all!

I love all the new talk going on, I truly do! Let me start by responding to something posted two pages ago. About Shun's 2K, the recovery, even on hit, is bad. I can't remember if this still works in VF5, but in VF4 and EVO Shun could get hit by certain character's moves even after successfully landing a 2K. Crazy huh?! Alas, definitely more punishable offline.

After reading further replies from my much too massive post last night I remember a couple of other things I wanted to say.

Denkai you've mentioned about starts versus me while using Wolf. Your most recent post talks about a certain situation where I don't dare turn my back. Actually, I do dare! I'm sure all have noticed I turn my back a lot, and it's part due to my nonchalant playstyle but even more so to do with if I get knocked down, it completely screws up people's flow and mindset. When characters are knocked down or even hit from BT the properties are completely different and definitely unexpected. I try to use this to my advantage and it works often and well. I end up evading a LOT of pounces this way by simply getting up mashing P (I should mention that this is wake up from face up / head toward). Depending on the pounce or attack I have my heart's desire afterward.

The other thing I remembered to mention is that I am clueless to frame data. It's not to say that I couldn't learn it, I just feel it instead. I know I would be better if I incorporated frame knowledge a little more, but simply feeling it is sufficient for me.

A good comparison would be the difference between SHU and Itazan. Anyone can guess who my style is more compared to!

I'm not taking ANYTHING away from your Wolf, dude. I say this, because I think you probably thinking that. And I'm letting you know, that's not the case. I got respect for you and your Wolf play man, don't forget that. I can't or won't do the stuff you do with Wolf. That's the thing about VF, it's almost like our character selection is intimate or some shit haha. It's a slight at any of us, if someone got something to say about our character we main and if it looks like we stealing value.

We are on the same side... only slightly, cause I hate anyone that don't play Sarah or Jacky lol.

Just because the game comes done to decision making, doesnt negate the fact that some characters decisions are either easier at less a cost to themselves, or the choice is extremely powerful when you get it.

Calling Wolf regular is funny though, cause I'm not even disagreeing with that, one bit. (no sarcasm, for the record). Cause he is regular.

Agreed. How much does wolf get from 9P+K here, is it more than what the pedigree would do? Just wondering.

I think we all want R, because it solves or atleast gives some kind of solution to our own personal character issues we got.

Ha, I knew you still would. Which is why I think 66P+K would be a great tool for Dennis. You are the USA version of SHU trying to do crazy things instead of always being fundamental which is good definitely for show.

Yep either you not tech rolling fast enough or its just lag cause its guaranteed, Flash does it all the time.

    Very Good Games to:

Kamais: First time we played in a long time. Glad I got to bust out Jeff, Jacky, AND Lau! This was the best connection we've had and your skills have improved. Very fun.

Denkai: Too long since we played. I wanted to play a lot longer, but like I said, I had a date to play Borderlands with my friend. Really fun matches with a lot of good finishes! I'm going to start stalking you for more LA vs. JA fights.

And a Brad/Jacky player named... Fonzerelli or something... good fights.

I wouldn't say this is limited to Shun. Lei Fei, Aoi and Blaze all fall in the same category as Shun. If a very competant player uses any of these characters you must know how to win using the knowledge of blocked move properties. Learning frames will help a lot, because it will develop your reaction ability. Online this is terrible because you never have the right enviroment where you can develop consistent habits. The lag will make you question whether something should work or not, so maybe the problem most people have is playing against a Shun online. Offline, Shun is no more difficult to figure out than any other character that has a specific style of playing that works well. To add to this, I feel like Shun is easier to pick up and learn than say Blaze or Aoi so there should be more Shun players around online and offline to learn from.

There's no question that most people think Shun is a little overpowered, but please don't give up because once you learn how to react properly the reward you get from climbing that wall might feel great to you!

Lag has been much worse, even here in Asia. I have a comment about people who abuse some moves that will only work online. In this case, I hope those players will go to play offline to realize how they would normally play. If something works then most people will think it will work offline as well, so each win they might feel is a win they really deserved. I stop playing when I see something like this, because the win is not an accurate one. If your opponent can realize that offline you would get guaranteed damage, he is aware that he is abusing the lag. I think this is equal to cheating when when I see someone doing something on purpose they know they could not do offline. It is a different story if they are just unaware that these tricks will not work offline, because they are innocently playing this way. Maybe if you can play offline it will show if a player is aware of how true a trick is. If they use the same setups, then I say they are innocent and not trying to abuse the lag on purpose.

Sometimes I keep playing if there is lag because I see my opponent is still trying to react the right way. If my opponent will still do ETEG in the right situations or try to fuzzy guard in a small disadvantage I will stay to play because they are trying to play seriously even in the lag. Sometimes though if I see my mid attacks hitting when I know they should not or I see they can't struggle an attack after I stagger them, I know out of respect to stop playing because my opponent is also trying to have a semi-serious game. Also sometimes if I see I can't play my normal way because of lag I stop because my opponent also deserves for me to play as close to normally as possible. This is a hard challenege whether to continue playing, because sometimes you want to play so much that you end up accepting the players who have lag with you and some other days you will find it too frustrating to handle the difficulty from lag.

if VF is like chess then online VF is like chess where your opponent gets to decide how each piece moves on the fly. People seem to relax into the lag and just let it do the driving for them.

This is / was the whole point of my post / argument. I'm not saying Shun is over powered. He is just over powered online. When you are up against a character like Shun who barely gives you any room to cut in and then when you do get that chance you can't afford to be wasting that 5-10 frame advantage on playing mind games against yourself. But this is what happens all the time. You block his DMPK and you can't get the guaranteed punish is not a good thing against a character that's always taking roughly 40pts of damage per combo and Shun has many combo starts or unorthodox move sets that lead to a big stagger which gets him to tack on an extra move or two, so you can pretty much call those situation combos themselves.

The worse part is even if you accept the fact you can't get the correct punishment for blocking his DMPK or other moves sets, you replace it with an alternate move of lesser damage just so you can get some damage, but then eventually in rare occasions he evades or defends that alternate move. Now at this point you have just seriously mentally fucked yourself.

The Shun player may thing that he has slowed you down to just a guarding buffoon, but the reality is now in your head it's like VF5 has added an extra player to your opponents side and you are battle 2 people and not just one. There is no way you can possible win at this point, but because of pride we tend to stick around and force ourselves to play through these types of moments as proof to ourselves that we are not scrubs.

Fuck that... like I told Jhow it's no offense to him man, but it's just to much work. I'm not saying I wouldn't lose to him even offline, because I have known Jesse for years man and believe me when I say the guy is fucking competent and super good at adapting and playing mind games. I believe him when he says that he doesn't have to try to adapt because of his current play style. Hey if it's working why change it right?

Jhow can be fucking awesome offline no doubt, the patterns he figures out are amazing!! I reply this thread cuz Jhow hopes he can promote on Rank and he realizes he has trouble on mirror match. When you have trouble with Shun online, that's fine~~
