GG's to Cozby, God Eater, Haze785(I think that's it), Kahn Rahn and anyone else I played lately.

Also GG's to Jhow77... Really man no offense because you know we are cool and have known each other for well over a decade, but your tricks are really annoying and even more annoying in lag. I don't find them annoying because they work. I get that part and understand why they work. I find them annoying because in the small time frame you have to punish it you just can't online. I have said this before, but if all you are doing to Shun is [P] [K] damage then there is absolutely no way you can beat him online when he can just mash things like [2] [K] , [K] [K] strings , [8] [K] [+] [G] combos, etc to escape your next attack. Almost everything he does leads to 40pts of damage or more. Really I'm not surprised that the only people who ranked up to Conqueror / Destroyer on you were Shun users. Any way hope to get some more games in with you and I can only pray our connection is better like how it use to be when we first started playing.

Is it me, but has anyone else noticed that LIVE has been laggier lately? A lot of people who I normally have decent connections with are sucking real bad right now.

Congrats...But does it really matter? all of you high ranked dudes used shun to get there online SMH!!!! If there was more ranked opponentss to choose from i would play ranked and would'nt mind losing. The truth of the matter it people got ranks and fell back with it and it became trickle down. Fuck Shun Now What? Konjou ain't never lie about what he said.
Pure Online Gimmicks and thats not just for Jhow77 either.

Rod, I think the problem probably came from your side. Usually the connection shouldn't that bad.... [IMG]

Those moves are really good even offline, but the most annoying part is you can't punish Shun online. [8] [K] [+] [G] and [K] [K] strings are very hard for me to punish right after. Also if you can't deal with Shun's [2] [P] then [K] [+] [G] stuff, I don't think you are able to take advantage of Shun either. Jhow is really good about [7] [P] [+] [K] [+] [G] with DMPK, which means even you crouch the first one you still need to be aware of the next DMPK. If you try to attack, you definitely get hit by DMPK. If you try to throw, you either get hit or clash. Of course you can choose to block that DMPK but eventually Shun can still keep in the safe loop always.

As far as I know, Denkai and Noneother are not that tricky as Jhow, and pretty much Jhow belongs to the top mix up player I have met. [IMG] But I believe Denkai's Shun can handle Jhow no doubt. I remember once Flash got straight against Jhow in ggs and I was very surprised. I assume Flash was not able to throw at first cuz Jhow prefered keeping attack, so Flash had to working on attacking only to confuse Jhow and then started to mix up the throws. But the thing is that I still don't know what exactly Flash did~~

SDS, of course Rod will never lie, but 3 of them are really good players and I don't think they reach high ranks just because using Shun without working hard. All we can say is Shun is an asshole [IMG] online but it doesn't mean anyone can control him into that level.

Dude, I take my hat off to you for playing Jhow. I can only withstand one or two matches. "Oh shit I blocked a low punch I better pick the right defensive technique now." And there's backdash back dash dial a string weird stancey wtf blocked the first four and ate the fifth or got dmpked or even blocked dmpk and then nailed trying to punish... put shotgun in mouth [IMG]

Jhow... you seem like a nice guy but...pick...a...different...char...

I remember a long time ago, Denkai said something similar to 'if you can't beat em join em'. So he started using Shun instead of Jacky.

    Fuck that.

Never join Shun, you bastards, unless you was already using him.

It's hard to play moral online especially when the timing is more strict to punish attacks due to frame loss, things get even more complicated when dealing with Shun. Shun is a powerful character online even more so then offline. Part of the reason is he will force any good player to second guess even the simplest choices.

Second guessing causes a slight delay in the opponents mind which they can't afford to lose when reacting to punishing strings online because any slight delay means you won't be punishing anything. An example would be like this "Shun does 33P shun is now at -8 after the move have been blocked Jacky now tries to do a 6p Shun stops 6p by using 2k which goes under 6p". Now when the same situation happens again the Jacky player stops and does nothing for a spit second remembering what happened before but lets say this time the Shun player decides to DMPK instead of 2k even if Jacky manages to block it his reaction isn't lighting fast to punish it online because of all the mind games going on in his head, by the time he does 6pk Shun already got away. You combine 2k with moves like 3p+k+g and 1p+k+g and you got a character that can really utilize online play.

Instead of complaining about shun it's best to just understand how he works and understand that you are playing online..or just do what I did learn how to use Shun..Cause its even hard for Shun to deal with Shun online

lol edit to slide I didn't really join the Dark Side I was always partly in it. I always knew how to play Shun some what

I think I've only played Jhow one time and he gave me the business for about five or more matches--I usually lose more than I win, but my matches with him were definitively lop-sided. I thought I was the only one having trouble touching him. Sadly my most effective moves for Vanessa were sabakis, 2p, and K+G--take that!

Ggs lately to Happyfriend, blackstar, and kaminari among others. I'm still learning and I always welcome advice after sets if anyone is willing to give pointers. Special thanks to happy and kaminari for some advice over the last couple weeks.

    I don't know you anymore. j/k

But yeah for real, playing moral is alot harder to do online. Even down to our Jacky v Sarah matches they're alot tighter offline that's for sure.

Personally her K+G seems like a mistake move for players that are used to having their K+G being a high circular for whichever character they came from.

I don't care what people say, Jhow is one of my favorite people to play. I kind of wish I kept playing Shun instead of Jeff but early on we had some killer shun vs shun matches.

No doubt he is fun to play man. If he wasn't fun to play I wouldn't keep trying to play with him 1 year later. The argument here is that while Jhow is good the online lag factor just make him seem untouchable. Here is an example of some of the BS I had to deal with today and this situation comes around quite often for me when playing with him and shows just how bad the lag can be. When Shun is in a handstand and he uses [K] (the move with the flurry of kicks), after you guard this move you can quickly input a [2] [K] with Akira and follow that up with [2] [K] [+] [G] [6] [P] [4] [6] [P] ... it's guaranteed! But today against Jhow many times I was in this situation and after defending the flurry of kicks before my [2] [K] comes out I eat another flurry of kicks or even worse his mule kick from that stance.

It's moments like this that make playing not just him, but any Shun online very frustrating. It's bad enough you only get a few frames to cut in on most of his strings, but when that time frame becomes none existent you might as well do as Happy Friend says and just shove a shotgun in your mouth and blow off your head.

Trust me his tricks are very good and maybe some of the best Shun tricks I have ever seen. But trust me when I say that they are highly punishable. Unfortunately just not online.

Great games to Attack291 our pai mirror matches in the last few days are always fun and competitive. Your defenses are better than mine overall but I know more of Pai's offensive setups either way it make for a great match overall.

Great games to Flash your akira is awesome his stepping reminds me of Konjou's stepping game to bait whiffs. Either way it was a great set and it was much closer than I expected it to be considering how great a player you are. I missed playing you since our last session many months ago.

good games to all the other people I faced recently as well especially the great players that owned me yesterday like rare entity and happy friend to name a few.

Look me up too, I am learning Van as well we can learn how to use her together besides the last time I faced a good Vanessa was when I faced Erdraug some time ago and he dominated me that set. He showed me a few things as well I use with my Vanessa now.

This post has been a long time coming because I've had many things on my mind for the past couple months.

Before I write anything, GGs to Konjou this morning! At the end of this post I have a link to one of our legendary matches. It is a fantastic match and everyone will enjoy watching it!!

I have been holding off writing this because some of the things on my mind seem trivial, but now things are coming to the surface with recent posts. I really appreciate the nice comments people have for me. I've said it many times that my goal has always been to be as creative as possible with Shun. This is mainly due to him being such an unorthodox character. The funny thing is because of so much variety that VF has offered with all the new versions, he doesn't seem as set apart from the rest of the other characters nearly as much as he did in VF2 and VF3. But nonetheless, my goal is still make him seem that way.

Not only is Shun unorthodox, but I'm sure everyone would agree that my playstyle is unorthodox. I fear that I might fall into the category of "you can't teach an old dog new tricks." I don't think I'll ever change. That is not saying that I can't adapt! Which is why I do well overall with anyone I play. My forte in fighting games has always been to make people say, "what the fuck was that" or "that's not even possible is it?"

The reason I say I'll never change is because of comments I've received in the past, and some recently. Dennis, you messaged me about a week ago saying GGs and also that I could improve if only I did a few things differently. Believe me, I know this! Things like doing ETEG. This may bewilder some people, but I never do it. I will do triple and sometimes quadruple throw escapes, but I never hold down guard. It's a habit I've never fixed. But whatever my methods, they suit me well. I will even put myself in harm's way hoping for a favorable outcome, and it often works.

By the way Dennis, I'm glad (and surprised) you mentioned Flash beating me down about two months ago. I think it was about 7 in a row. I have thought of that night often, mainly because we haven't played since, and I never wanted to say this because it's not meant to take anything away from Flash, but I had about 5 or 6 beers that night and would love another crack at you Flash! Being in car sales definitely makes me get my drink on, and if anyone ever plays me at night I'm usually sipping on one (having one now) but I usually stop playing VF after my 3rd. That night I got carried away. Who knows, maybe I can't beat you anymore Flash, but, saying this as nice as possible, I doubt it. =)

Back to what I was talking about... I attribute my success in this game to playing anyone and everyone, REPEATEDLY! Also a huge factor is sticking with my main character. Sam (ET Pharaoh) had always said that is important and I couldn't agree more. It's like the saying goes, "expert of many, master of none." My main in VF2, VF3, and VF4 was Jacky. I grew extremely bored of him during VF4 and quit when EVO came out. I didn't start playing Shun until VF3, and didn't really grasp him until VF4.

When I say I play anyone and everyone repeatedly, I'm trying to focus discussion on very good players that seem to only play a select few, match after match, for 20 matches. While this is fun once and awhile, you will never gain diversity, tactics, and all around knowledge of the game and/or your character (and how to fight against a variety of other people's differently played characters).

People complain about Shun, right? I agree, he's one of the top tier characters in VF5, and my playstyle makes him annoying to some, but Boyd, openly admitting that nowadays he might not be what he used to be back in the VF3TB days, still beats me around 30 to 40% of the time. HE HAS EXPERIENCE!

Which also brings me to my next point, we have been playing this game since 1993! This kind of experience brings knowledge of the game's engine. While things have changed from version to version, many tactics involving the pure VF engine remain. Things like hopping backwards through someone's rising attack in order to get a back throw, or multiple forward dashing to ring someone out (did this to None Other two nights ago and he screamed, "What the fuck! I've never seen that before." There are many things like this that I incorporate into my game that give me an edge, despite my lack of either ability or, err, stubbornness.

SDS, I think your statement about ranked matches is flawed. I think it's a coincidence that Shun players are high rank (and it's only two) but it's purely because of lack of desire to be a higher rank. I agree that it's frustrating to have to persevere for months or years to achieve a higher rank now that many people don't play, but it's the many people that can change this by simply playing! I still believe that ranked matches have the highest ability to make it feel like a Japanese arcade. Even if you end up playing total tools, there is something still on the line, and better yet, you get diversity, which can only make you better. In the past my posts have brought about a very brief stint of players coming forth. Hopefully that can happen again.

Happy Friend, I'm not surprised by your comment because after a few sessions over the span of a few months it was evident that you didn't like playing me more than two matches. You are a good player, but with that mentality you only hinder yourself and your ability to overcome different playstyles. I am, like you say, a good guy, but not being a teenager anymore and not having more time than I know what to do with, I find sticking with Shun satisfying and still enjoy the game just as much. I'm happy I can find as little time as I can just to play VF. I have a friend that makes fun of me to this day for having an XBox 360 for over two years and only ever purchasing one game, VF5. =)

I know I have more on my mind but can't think of it at the moment. This post has gotten long enough, so as promised, I leave everyone with a legendary match between Konjou and myself, filled with an excellent from each of us, and a major comeback in the last round. Enjoy!

Yes, I remember I message you after you owned me 10 in rows.
LoL~ [IMG] trust me I did everything I could!! I shouldn't say you "had to" do ETEG but usually you prefer DMPK instead of defense. And you tend to do K+G right after 2P even it's blocked so I can tell you spam the button on auto pilot. To be hoenst, I did exactly the same way as yours and it does work online. Well, I don't think being unorthodox is wrong because there is no rules to play VF. Like I mentioned on the message, you can definitely become one strongest player no question~ [IMG]

Haha~ it did surprise me cuz I couldn't find out the lead. No matter how good the connection was between you and Flash, I still believe Shun can take advantage of the entire situation.
No way, no way Flash could throw you!!!! lol

Shun is fun to play, and I do enjoy the tricks you show!! I can't imagine how much work you pay man!! Maybe you should post the videos about teaching tricks!! [IMG]

anyway ggs to you today Dennis, next time I want to see what we'd come up with Sarah vs Akira.
