With Jeff, vs people who are low punchers, I have the 4kp loaded and ready. It's actually how I determine if a connection is playable: if I can't stick in that knee after a blocked 2p before the next 2p comes out, then there's too much lag.

And I do not think that AK 3p+k is unfair, just that to fight against someone doing 44, 3p+k ad nauseum is not the best way for me to spend my time.

And I would personally not put 2p in the same category as DMPK, which quasi-broken online, but then again I am a fanatical anti-DMPK crusader.

yeah, I tried to punish the blocked d+P but couldn't during our session with any consistency but that was my issue not the lag, I think everything was nicely playable with us.

I get that. I'll quit games quickly if it looks like I won't enjoy myself (for whatever reason)and I dislike DMPK being substituted for any actual defense tech but I think a lot of people lump d+P into their hate category for a lot of the same reasons you hate on DMPK. online, it can be hard to react to and the frame attention has to be on the one defending against it. you actually need to be frame perfect to punish D+P on block whereas the guy hammering on low punch just needs to keep hammering. if you aren't on game then guess who wins.

We all need to keep fucking that chicken.

GGs to everyone who's put up with my crappy play recently. I'm trying to change my play style up and practice certain things each match, so please excuse me if it seems like i'm not playing properly or taking the piss. I'm not, just trying to get better.

I can find 2p to be pretty annoying when it is someone's entire game. I have only encountered a couple players that did this and they both used Wolf. Wolf's low punch options are actually so good that he can be played that way and be sorta effective.

In VF4 2p became super powerful. I had to actually practice the timing to use elbow to interrupt consecutive low punches. To always be ready to do this is actually one the hardest basic skills that one needs in VF, imo. Some people can play the game a long time and still not be quick enough to punish blocked 2p. I see it online all the time. When I used to play more offline, I remember seeing many people get owned by low punch because they did not have the timing and reflexes to deal with it or they just didn't know how to do it. Even some guys who have played a lot over the years might not have the chops to deal with 2p. This is not an online phenomenon, but human psychology being what it is, I am not surprised that people attribute their getting owned by 2p to lag.

Even online, 2p spammers can be punished. I do it all the time. A blocked 2p, with a decent connection. gives you an advantage about equal to what the frame data would suggest.

DMPK on the other hand, is totally different online. It is supposed to be throw+ counterable, but it is not. I think that this is because of guard stun. For DMPK there is very little. That is why it is unpunishable online where as something like Jeff's [4] [3] [P] [P] is punishable online, even though they have the same disadvantage on block (I think).

Of course, I think DMPK is awful anyway and it's inclusion in VF5 shows the lower quality in the game design. It is a panic button that saves the user from, I don't know, having to think of what their opponent is actually likely to do. Anyone who has lost matches to Jons Up with his simpleton strategy of alternating between 2p and dmpk when at small dis. can attest to the fact that VF5 offers some, uh, novel and shitty experiences that one could not enjoy in previous entries in the series.

Don't get me wrong, I know how to beat Jons Up, but my overall point is just that 2p is strong and annoying, but fair and ultimately manageable, whereas with DMPK, a player can totally reverse the outcome of an exchange AND it is perhaps the move most effected by even minimal lag.

    i laughed.

I have to admit, the few times we've played recently I alternate between feeling

    dirty,
    spiteful,
    and annoyed,

when i do dmp+K. (b/c of your gg thread and bg thread rants).
I feel dirty when I do it as a crutch, b/c i am unsure of how to best defend myself.
I feel spiteful when i am particularly annoyed by part of your flow charts that i am having trouble breaking, so I do dmp+k and think 'haha, take that EXPLETIVE)
And i feel annoyed when i accidentally do it, and think, great, i just did it once as a bail out, twice to be spiteful, and now once on accident, all in the same match. he is going to leave this session, lol.

all this is made worse by my current suckiness at the game

How cool is this? I just checked xbox.com at 13:30 GMT -8 and there's nine friends on. All are playing VF. Makes my day.

That is funny. I never thought you abused it at all. I even do it by accident when I evade and try to do lau's or jeff's p+k. Only a few times have I stopped playing someone because of it. Like anybody who is competitive, I would prefer not to lose, but losing to DMPK makes it way worse.

SMB in my experience you have always been a solid player and a good guy to fight against, even as Lei Fei [IMG]

GG's man, those matches in the beginning were really intense then I started to slip lol.

Also gg's to Tonyfamilia, The Weiand, Soulkatana, AZ, Mackfactor, Marlyjay, ThePlagueBegins and sorry for anyone else that I may have forgotten.

PS: I blame my abareness this past few days to the combination of using pad, input lag from t.v. as usual and unusual lag in general at times, sorry!

I guess you hate playing against Shun Di. 2p 2k DMPK and Mule Kick every round.

I do! If I were a prosecutor making a case against VF5, I would show incriminating videos of someone playing a keep away, string happy Shun and using the aforementioned moves against anyone lucky enough to get close enough to try to hit him.

Haha~ I think the most important thing to against Shun is you are not able to hit back with guarantee moves online, and that makes the entire match isn't worth to earn the reward you are supposed to do. Every time when I see the opponent has over 10 drinks, I told myself just let it go......:)

ggs to mana knight. It was fun trying out ur goh the other night. It's hard to not be a second slow on everything with him when u first start using him.

ggs to kahn rahn. That was fun set with a lot of adjustments and adjustment to adjustments, etc.

ggs to titantony. Also a lot of adjusting going on. Every so often u would change everything.

ggs to mitsuruga. BLOCK. BLOCK. You can occasionally block and u'll be better. There are 3 buttons...therefore 33% of ur buttons (on the standar g p k set up block. 3px6 wasn't a natural combo! All that being said, u still won the majority. But for the love of virtua fighter BLOCK.

Ain't that some shit plague? That looks beautiful.
Them Jacky Vs Pai matches with me and GT was intense.

GG's to GentlemenThief. What a good Pai..She has the traps and setup's that compliment for your play style. Im just trying to get back my VF legs. It felt good playing against someone who was'nt on auto-pilot the whole session. I fell for your rushdown offense and kept trying to keep up and i would get destroyed. Then when i Calmed down dictated the flow and trusted my defense i'd win. So what i learned is if i can keep my patience i might actually be good lol!!!! Certain throws could've possibly been escape offline due to the frame thing but all in all it was a pleasure.

Finally go to play after forever. Here we go in the good spirit of (my insomnia) things:

    Good Games:
Godeater: You never play me more than once. Go fig.

Weiand: You actually wanted to play me more than once. Wtf caught
me off guard that you actually were playing me in the first place. After
the first match I just moved on expecting you to NOT play me as usual.
(I think it's official that Jeffry players hate me.)

Eubanks: I really don't know what to say, re-evaluate your flow because
what you are doing right now isn't working. It's like you're on auto pilot
and no matter how many times I see it coming you think I won't. Delay
Knee only works on predictable styles!

VFNumbers: Good shit, funny how we both started using shit over and over
that just "worked" for some reason. Ended up being kind of lame but amusing. You P,P,P and me 2k+g x infiniti.

Chief Dusk: Don't know if this is flash, from the k-cancels I think it probably was. Think this is the first time I've played you in a year. Groovy Wolf as always. My brain
got lazy towards the end but good games.

HappyGuy: 2P baby! The fights were so lame due to the sheer amount of
2p throw attempts on both our parts that it was humorous as hell. Is your
Jacky new? Seems all new Jackys do the same thing.

Belated GG's to QueenofCarnage, some mystery Jeffry, a few brads and other
    blokes.

Got my Xbox back online last night after a long hiatus.

gg to None Other - wish you'd have played more than once as it was a fun match.

And ggs to Happyfriend - not sure why my internet crapped out, but up to that point the Lau lesson was excellent. I need a lot more exposure to Lau and I thought the fights were intense, despite me being on losing side! [IMG]

Lol, why should he? He's got a 10frame jab, a sweep that goes under highs, a 2P killer, a bunch of strings AND he's online [IMG]
Blocking is for offline play, silly ^_^

    GGs to

Llanfair. The fights were intense and many were really close.

Corcskrewed, thx for playing with my Jacky for so long. I haven't used him in over a year or so. It was actually really fun. Playing more games got me a little more used to Jacky again

    Carnage

DeeThaGee I have to really dedicate myself to getting close to you. I end up chasing Blaze around like I'm the Immigration Department and he doesn't have his Lucahdor Visa.

And everybody else I can't remember...
