Re: FT: Hands On Report part 2

I write this at 6am... I got home an hour ago after some mad FT playing. Don't be surprised if this post doesn't make sense.

Music: afaict, all the stage music is the same as evo.

    Chars:
    Brad:
    - can charge the sway forward knee.
    - change move [2][3_]+[P] looks like the second attack of [3]+[P]+[K][P]
    - can sway to his back and jab with is front arm then follow up with a downward hook. I think this might be the other change move.

    Vanessa:
Still nothing. The local vanessa player was playing, but he stopped soon after I got there.

    Shun:
I don't play Shun, but I talked to one of the really good Shun players here and he thinks Shun is a little stronger than before. He was able to get drinks on everybody so I don't think the changes in drink points will be much of an issue.
    - new [6][K][P] is a good combo ender because the [P] slams you down. Doesn't look right because it's this straight lunging punch.
    - he can do this double jab move into the leg lift.
    - Sega messed up his change moves on VF.net. they got [4]+[P] and [6]+[P] mixed up on the change move screen. Not sure if this affected the game.

    Aoi:
Crazy zigzagging char. And she can cancel more moves now... like she needed more. I think one of her change moves is that [K][K] kick like she had in VF3 or VF4. Same looking thing as Pai's. I don't play aoi so don't quote me.

    Goh:
    - [P][K][4] -> [P]+[G] is pretty quick. Saw the gut punch combo in the intro. Looks cool. One of the guys was trying it but never got it. His hold move has a different animation. Looks like he's trying to grab your face.

    Sarah:
Nothing new since my last post.

    Wolf:
I played him once. New throws are cool.

    Lau:
He has this two legged sweep from Tiger stance. Looked interesting.
    - still possible to do hop [K] and hop [P]. I thought hop [P] was taken out, but it looks like they just added another hop [P] move. Maybe it's a change move?

    Jeffry:
His [4]+[P]+[G] super press throw is a little different. He lifts you then drops you on your stomach.

Ground throw on face down char is cool. He lifts the guy up off the ground and with one hand on their neck, he throws them face down head first into the ground.

    Pai:
New [4][4]+[K] move seems useful. the 2nd kick doesn't seem as useful. Both appear to be half circular high attacks.
Her new [6][6]+[P]+[K] hopping low attack has some good range. It can also be cancelled which makes things interesting.
She also has a hit throw from backturned like Lau too. Actually, the hit part looks just like Lau's tetsuzanko looking move. On hit, she gets close to the opponent (still with back to the opponent) and kicks them in the face.

    Jacky:
I'm really surprised no one really played Jacky. All I saw was the new shuffle step back [P]. One guy tried to do the shuffle step ducking hit throw thingy, but didn't get it.

    Lion:
He has this elbow move where he leans to the side and elbows upward into your stomach. Stomach crumple on MC. Actually Shun has a move like this too, 'cept he uses his fist.
    - one change move is his vf3 hopping knee attack ([6]+[K]).

    Lei Fei:
He has two new throws where he just punches the shit out of your torso. It's brutal. Didn't see much else.

    Kage:
Ok, I think I understand some of the Jumonji stuff.
    - [4]+[K] and [3]+[K]+[G] can go into jumonji (backturned).
While in backturned Jumonji, you can turn around and stay in Jumonji or turn around with other moves such as [P] (and can be followed up with [K][K] for instance). I believe when you push [8_] or [2_] you cartwheel to the side (instead of rolling).

    Akira:
[6][6]+[P]+[K][P] is just brutal. The first part looks like it comes out fast. I've read that it's -12 on block. The 2nd part causes the opponent to crouch on MC. Even on block, I don't think the 2nd hit is counterable. So, people's first reaction is to [P] after they block. Well, since the first part dodges high attacks, you can just do it again and hit them. The move seems deceptive in a way. The second hit can be reversed even if you block the first one. The first hit can be reversed also, but I'm not sure if it's considered a body attack or an arm attack. An Aoi player reversed it so I'm not sure if Akira or Pai, for instance, can do it too.

Akira also has some new options after [1]+[P]+[K]+[G] shuffle move. He can do a move that looks like [6]+[P] (and is probably the way to do it) and shuffle back again. shuffle + [K] animation was changed to [2_]+[K] instead of [2]+[K]. He moves forward has he does it. Looks kinda like Goh's [3]+[K]+[G]. And like Goh's sweep, Akira's shuffle + [K] is also a hit throw! It looks like he knocks the guy off balance and then flips them onto their back. I was really surprised to see this. And at the time, I was wondering why this one guy kept doing the shuffle [K] (and failing).

Well, that's it for now. It seems like all the characters gained multi-part combos with varying delays and learned to shuffle.

It could be a catch throw, in which case you may not be able to break it.

Great reports guys, keep 'em coming! Load me up for the 21st, I can't wait!!!

. collect 4 gold coins and you get a rare item.. i have 3 and the last one is killing me. goh has a new roll move which is great for evadind and generaly messing about. its just[G]+[P]+[K] akiras [6_][6_]+[P]+[K] is fantastic. great for ring outs to. also can replace the standard [P][K] and knee after the shoulder throw against a wall. slightly less damage maybe?
as for lau, jump kick and punch are indeed the same. from tiger stance[9_]+[P] gives you the double punch.
[6_]+[P] is a backturned attack which links into the throw if you press [P]+[G] at the right time. renkan is now [3_][3_][P]+[K] not just [3_][P]+[K]! [3_][P]+[K] is a new move which stuns you. seems pretty cool, sets up a good poke or grab game.

oh yeah and ive got like a 6 foot katane and long hairfor akira. the long hair is shit, complete waste of a hard earned 20000 G!!! should have bought the bracelet instead. the sword is cool though. there have been a lot of glitches on vf.net recently. my friend selected a new grey costume for akira today and it turned out on screen as a brilliant white and black striped combo. really weird. also akiras pale yellow color is far from pale as i discovered today. it almost gave me a headache its like ultra flouresent green!!!!

If this means the ducking forward knee then this is another great tidbit of news for Brad users. Think of for example applying this in the standard [4][6][P]+[G] situation on a QR'er... if they rise without gaurd the ducking [K] will stagger them if you want to and otherwise you still have the option of charging the knee and staggering them anyways. Besides, since nobody likes to be sitting against Brad anyways when he comes in ducking with an advantage normally (standing and gaurding) this can be a fun mindfucker in many more applications. Ducking will be so much more fun now with the 2p sabaki and stuff like this.

YES!!!!! My favorite Goh move has been lifted and given to Akira!! I am so happy!! And since I was a big fan of [1][G]+[P]+[K] to begin with, I can see myself using it more and more /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Thanks for the info.

This is really in response to some of the FT movies being posted, but I thought I'd put them down here:

General: Love the aesthetic changes. I don't care for the font much, but the character select screen is bold, eye-catching, and full of energy. It's the same game, but because of the new moves, everything looks so different! My only trepidation is having to re-memorize what's what after YC or RC, otherwise, I can't wait to play this game! The animation is superb!!

Stages: Every single stage I saw I liked better than Evo or VF4. That was unexpected! My favorite improvement would probably have to be the Shrine.

Akira: Is his [6][6][P]+[K][P] throw counterable?! If not, wow, this is a really good move...possibly even better than Evo's SDE. If it is, phew, then it's not so bad, but still good enough to be a staple. He looks buffed up to me, but then I was watching Minami (or Homestay?) play.

Aoi: Wow, she looks really interesting. I have a feeling the days of VF4 Aoi dominance is back again. That zig-zag punch looks really difficult to punish.

Wolf: FANTASTIC, I may start playing the big fella again. That new sidekick was exactly what he needed...a long range, un-counterable attack. His K5 looks awesome, as is the [3][P]+[G]. BTW, toekick stunner was always doable against an opponent's back, even in VF4.

Goh: [6][6][K]. Enough said. Crumple on RC and safe on block? Wow!

Kage: If people keep playing Kage the way they do in Evo, he's definitely weaker. Is ground attack after [3][P]+[G] no long guaranteed?? Personally, I wouldn't pick the Evo version of [2][3_][P]. The whole point of that move in Evo is that it floats on mC. With that gone, I think I prefer the long chop. His new back turned options look veeeery interesting...

Still guaranteed lah, jus that vs Aoi, she can do p+k to reverse the [3]+[K], which by the way already existed in Evo. Call yourself a Kage player. Hah! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Based on what I've read thus far, I agree 100%. I personally have not been a big fan of the current powerhouse Kage playing style (having been on the receiving end much of the time /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) and I hope that these changes bring him back to the flashier side that makes the ninja so appealing, imo.

Kanna, the opening movies have all been changed. There are now 3 of them showing each character and the new moves as opposed to 2 from Evo. There were movies of them a while ago taken from someone's phone, not sure if they are still there. Sega will probably have it on their site soon.

I avoided the ground attack after [3][P]+[G] quite a bit in FT, so it looks like it's avoidable and not guaranteed anymore.

Aiyah, against Aoi in Evo can:
    - Delay, ground stomp
    - [3][K]+[G] or [4][4][K]+[G] for MC damage, and quite safe la

I assume the Kage in the clips know as much as me!! /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

A quick note - Akira's SDE is not throw counterable in FT version A. It was only TC in the beta. It's the same as before, -6 on block.

    Let the whining begin....
