FFX-2 might be an incredibly bad game (loads of reviewers are saying it is!) but that won't stop me from borrowing it from a friend... lol

Reviwers Suck. They play the game for 1 hour. Look what they said about VF4 and EVO....They are lame, and I don't care what people say. I wanna know what happenned to Yuna and Tidus and the rest of the crew =)

Every review I've seen for VF4 and VF4 Evolution was a good review... seems like it gets high scores (that it deserves) from everyone....

However I agree with you... reviewers are stupid... in the sense that they sometimes rate a good game bad and a bad game good just because they think the majority like thise "game"...

Hi, I lurk here and am a friend of csnape. Seeing as I lost around 180 hours of my life to FFX last summer (monumentally sad) I felt I had to correct this incorrect statement. Wakka was pathetic against Penance. As Penance and arms are so agile and get so many turns to use an overdrive the overdrive must to damage to compensate for the delay the character gets. Wakka's Attack Reels do approx 30k damage with maxed stats rising to 60k upon critical hits. If you divide the damage between the arms and torso this does approximately fuck all damage.

Only one overdrive does any worthwhile damage, and that is Auron's Tornado. This does 2 x 99'999 on each part and is worth the delay the character takes. The other two characters used must have quick hits and entrust to give Auron the overdrive. Penance is not just a case of Attack Reels, as that would cheapen the achievement.

I might have only just registered but as a long time user of newsgroups and forums I have only one recommendation to you - don't make false claims on the Internet - you are just asking for someone to prove you wrong.

uh..my wakka did aproximately half the damage I said AGAINST PENANCE. Like.. 600000 damage.. Your wakka must be really bad m8. Maxed stats? LOL! I don't believe that. Something must have happened during your battle. I had 5 wakka turns between penance's turns. I had auto-haste and 255 agility.

Look, wakka IS the best character in the game, NO DOUBT. I had auron at maxed stats and his overdrive always sucked compared to Blitz Ace, Attack Reels, and even Yuna's Grand Summon, which equals a free Oblivion from Anima.

I still think you're lying. My post isn't worded amazingly - I meant 30k a hit, rising to 60k a hit for criticals. This is the case for any dark aeon with 255 defence.

You posted above that you used Zanmato to defeat Penance, and now you say you used your characters - which is it? I really don't think you got 600'000 damage on Penance. I assure you my stats are maxed with the exception of Luck, because 120 was sufficient, and magic, because magic took too long to cast and got boring during a 90 minute long battle. Magic was around 244. I also obtained each celestial weapon, even Lulu's!

The problem with your statements are the fact that maxed stats are fairly irrelevant here. Maxed stats only mean you are approximately the same as Penance. The important details are the attack strengths. I don't have the numbers off hand, but as I remember, each hit in attack reels is around strength 4 (compared to around 20 for a normal attack). This is pitiful, and not enough to do sufficient damage to Penance. Each hit with Tornado is around 24, dealing the full 99k damage, meaning you knock each arm down 200k and chip away at Penance's 10million or so health. You are kidding yourself if you think you can hit Penance for 600k. I think you could do with looking at some of the guides on gamefaqs, which I just looked at and use a very similar strategy to me. I'm sure if it were possible to do decent damage with Wakka, they'd say so.

Incidentally, your assertion that beating Dark Yojimbo 5 times is hard is something I find odd. His attacks aren't all that strong, and I found that with Protect and lots of Sentinel I could do the whole thing without dying. And Zanmato is easily avoided by sacrificing an Aeon.

Why would you use Zanmato when you have maxed out stats? It's just cowardly and requires zero skill.

Now I could pick holes in your rather strange posts for hours, but I'm going to read other bits of this pretty cool forum. Just a shame the clock's all screwed up.

I won't repeat myself again: I used Zanmato on every dark aeon except dark Yojimbo because I didn't max my stats until then. I didn't even know they were that strong, and I didn't know how to MAX THEM. I hadn't read a FAQ until then.

I did 600000 to yojimbo with each attack reels. I don't CARE if you believe me or not. I don't know why you did those pity 60k. Look into faqs, they all say same thing: USE WAKKA AND TIDUS TO BEAT EVERY AEON AND PENANCE. Pretty simple huh? My reels do 1119000 on a normal monster, and 600000 (aprox.) for dark aeons and penance.

I hope you understand what ATTACK REELS is. It's hitting both 3 reels in 2 hit and in less then 15 seconds. And you get 13-14 attacks at 99999 (normal monster) or 40000-50000 (dark aeons and penance).

I fought Penance twice: The first time I was fighting him I summoned yojimbo to see "the end" of penance. I used zanmato and dang! The next time (after reloading) I played him normally.

I'll say ONE MORE TIME: My attack reels (3x2x2x99999/45000) do MUCH MORE than what your results indicate. Ask anyone else, don't bother me nor call me a liar. It's a fact, and every single FFX player knows it.

I don't want to get drawn into a huge argument here but how long did penance take you to beat? I may sound like I am defending Nakura here too when he doesn't need me too but yes he understands fully what a perfect attack reels is. When I was only 50 hrs into the game he showed me some of the monsters from the monster arena complete with his almost maxed out stats. This includes using the most powerful version of attack reels. My stats are totally maxed out on every character ( 255 everything , luck ranges from 125 to 127 on each ) and they have learned everything there is to learn. My average hp for each would be about 45K. I too have defeated penance but it was a long time ago ( november ). I am just curious to know how long it took you? I should also add that I did not beat Dark Valefor or Dark Ifrit with attack reels as I didn't even have the overdrive at the time in fact I don't think I used it on Dark Ixion either.

First things first. Penance has this EXACT hp: 12,000,000HP Arms: 500,000HP.

It took me something like 45-50 minutes to defeat him. I used attack reels and Oblivion Mostly. I used 30,000 on Auron Tidus and Wakka. Tera graviton takes damage depending on your max hp, so having 90,000 for example will take you 70,000 which takes longer to heal than if you had 30,000hp which takes you almost nothing compared to 90,000hp.

Also, I used this two attacks throughout the battle: attack reels (20 to 22 times on Penance, and the times necessary on the Arms as they regenerated, damaging something close to 600,000 each time) and Oblivion from Anima which damaged from 300,000 to 400,000 (and got killed right away, lol).

Both Auron and Tidus had auto-haste (as all of my chars), auto-phoenix to revive each dead member, ribbon, and break hp limit on their armors. They were there to heal/revive, nothing more. I killed it right away with no need to reload. Not that it was easy, but it followed a pattern, easy to predict, easy to counter..

To tell you the truth, Yojimbo was much a pain in the ass, because when I fought him I had no ribbon armor. So I had to use aeons all the time to take daiagoro.. After one aeon I was able to use my Marvelous Attack reels. And then I would change another aeon which gets killed, and I used reels again. But to get reels I need overdrive which was in comrade mode. Which means: I need someone to get killed and wakka can't be there or he might get "daiagoro"'ed. What I did was switch him with Tidus (also pretty fast) get him hust by any attack, switch back, and use entrust.

The problem was in the last three fights..what happened was: yojimbo killed 2 characters: Tidus Auron and Wakka. Wakka was the only one with auto-life. But he didn't get overdrive gauge (only two random characters get..). I was helpless and Yojimbo was 100,000 something (not enough to kill him) and I had no more aeons except yojimbo. So I tried calling him, making him use one attack, get killed, and use wakka for the last attack.
I paid him 1700 (I didn't pay less because I wanted no Diagoro...), and he did zanmato..

Now...the funny part is that in the next two fights
besides this one, I found myself in the EXACT same position. Wakka only (yuna on the background) and dark yojimno with just a few 100,000. I called Yojimbo and he did zanmato again. And the last fight: the same...

I COULD'VE killed him those last 3 times myself. But I didn't because that lame bastard used zanmato!! Which means: NO OVERKILL, AND SO MUCH WORK FOR NOTHING.

I still had no Ribbon armor so I just had to get 198 dark matters..I "just had to get"..small price to pay for not repeating yojimbo 5 consecutive times again.

I had to work pretty hard to get strong characters after that to fight penance. Well, this is my story =)

Hey don't worry about the stats for Penance I already know them all. I've a copy of the official strat guide which details all of his stats. One things for sure is that its a very long fight against him...very long! I did a similar thing on dark yojimbo. I fought him 4 times succesfully and messed up the 5th time which was a damn pain. Basically I had strong chars and that but the idea I used was too sacrifice an aeon just as yojimbos zanmato was about to happen ( ie his overdrive bar filled ). I missed the bloody timing by one round the 5th time and had to start again. I've still got a save before I beat penance all those months ago so I'm going to see how long it'll take me to do him again.

Ok, sorry to bump up an old thread. So FFX-2 has just hit the states, and I'm wondering about its purchase. It's not money, it's the time that I'm concerned about. FFX took about 120 hours of me + my girl's cooperative lives, and we're wondering if FFX-2 is worth it, given not a few negative reviews.

So is FFX-2 worth our time? I'm guessing that by now, many of you have put some serious hours into FFX-2, and asking for your opinions as a fellow gamer with some common interests (since you are here at VFDC, I'm assuming that there's some commonality). FWIW, FFX was our first FF, we enjoyed it very much, but found the Trials really lame, found Blitzball the lamest POS ever, and was really annoyed by the fact that you couldn't really move one step without getting attacked by something. We aren't FF fanboys, didn't do get to fight Penance or whatever, but did finish FFX twice, got all the Aeons, and Celestial weapons for a few. And we did grow a fondness for each of the chars (for some reason, my girl likes Kimari the most) and we've enjoyed the story very much. I swear, if we ever have a baby girl, her name very well be Yuna (btw, not so uncommon Korean girl's name nowadays).

So will we like FFX-2?

From what I've heard its very good. I'll try and get Nakura to fill you in on it as hes just finished playing the american version. I don't think you need to worry too much about the hrs though, this one has replay value as opposed to straight gameplay length.

I've just finished my import copy of it (couldn't wait for the Euro release). A quick answer to the original question - no, it'll be 50Hz.

FFX-2 is a very different kettle of fish to FFX. If you loved FFX's characters and world, you will love FFX-2. If you want something similar to the gameplay dynamic of FFX, go elsewhere - FFX-2 is heading back to ATB system country. The battle system is very different, but very cool, the levels system is back, etc etc. It's also very open ended - finishing the story is only 40% of the game. To get the "Perfect" ending, you have to get 100%, do all the missions.

Basically, get it - it's like $50, which is good for me because the dollar is nice and weak these days /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

it came out here in canada a month ago i think. it's pretty good. the music might not be your taste tho. it's j-pop =P. personally, i think the soundtrack isn't as good as FFX but i think the graphics are a little better. the CGs are top-notch. the story... i'm not sure what to think of it. it's very feminine. i haven't played the game enough to recommend it or not.

Yes, good point - the music is not Mr. Uematsu this time round, it is a little less epic and a lot more computer gamey. Best music was FF6 anyway /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wish they have raised difficulty level, althought Im not very good RPG player (haha,just how do you be good in RPG´s /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) I think it was too easy(mostly because of the predictability of the enemies, used same attack pattern over and over). I love challenges.
Althought Im not really looking forward to it Im still going to get. I hope I dont get dissapointed again...

Damn, I thought I finished FFX...I don't even know half the stuff you guys were talking about! Dark Yojimbo? Penance? I guess I'm a mainstream kind of guy when it comes to RPGs...I don't want to spend too much time playing them.

Anyway, just got FFX-2, which is why I'm checking out this thread. Seems quite lame so far...more Charlie's Angels than Final Fantasy. Hope it gets better.

Any other RPGs out there that 1) have great graphics, 2) great story, and 3) non-irritating gameplay?
