    Incidentally, we just scored a VF3 ob machine (any easy ways to tell from gameplay which version/revision I have?) & William has been using Taka since Vanessa wasn't born yet & "nothing combos" with Kage.     The argument about competent Shun players is now OVER.

    Just got off the phone with a good friend who just said he is confirmed for Evo2k4.

    This time it is none other than Itabashi Zangief! Be prepared to fear, to eat chouwan for breakfast lunch and dinner, and to eat shit that will make you feel stupider than you actually are. He is a monster.

    Also confirmed is Raou, the Lau player who claims to have invented a new step within the last month and employs it rather wickedly.

    Shit is about to get scary.

    Ok, problems in paradise. 2 of the Japanese players who are coming (namely, Kurita) were only able to get off work for the Thursday (28th) and Friday (29th). They must be back IN JAPAN by sunday night, which means they have to leave on Saturday night, the 30th. All is good and well except they will have to MISS THE FINALS. of course there is no guarantee that either player will make the finals but...if they did, god would that be shitty.

    if you want to change the tournament schedule somehow, such as having the VF semis early on the 29th and then doing the finals when the semis were supposed to take place, please post here. maybe if we get enough people to agree then we can have the date changed.

    I can't make the prelims or semis unless they're in the evening on the 29th. Let's just do the whole thing on the 30th, in the afternoon.

    Problems in paradise you say?

    I've had a quick word with the organisers about this situation and the message I'm getting is that they're happy if the players are happy, provided our needs can be accommodated.

    We can certainly run the entire tournament, finals and all, on Friday 30th July. What this means, however, is that we can't have a Finals with all the bells and whistles -- no big intros, no big screen, no evo audience and big stage atmosphere, no awesome yamagishi commentary (assuming he makes it), no live feed capture for the dvd... get the idea? But!

    Instead of having the Finals on Saturday night, how about a Team Tournament? I haven't run the idea by the organisers yet, but I'm sure they won't object.

    So, you people going, what do you think? I'm personally excited about this idea, and I've already talked to m_shun about this and he's on board too. Details regarding the Team Tournament are yet to be worked out, but it'll highly depend on the number of players we end up getting at the tournament. Also, on "Finals" night the schedule only allows us 1 hour so I don't think we'll be having 5 teams of 5, all playing round robin 'cos that'd take a whole night itself! I think it'll be a single elimination affair (more exciting!), and probably random draw as well.

    Some ideas off the top of my head for the teams are to have the top 4 placers of the singles tournament be nominated as captain, and they choose their team mates. Or, we have regional based teams: team socal, norcal, midwest, east coast and, of course, team japan /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif I personally prefer the regional based teams, but I'm happy for the community to decide.

    So guys, what do you think? This year's Evo is gonna be HOT!
