Man, Manji, you need more optimism!

I think people still playing VF have enough love for the game to step up and be present when they sign up for a thing like this.

Also, when making this a monthly thing, it enables those that couldn't be present on this particular date to join in at one of the other tournaments.

Also, back in the DOA2:U days (years ago, haha), me and my 'clan' back then used to hold online tournaments on a weekly basis, and we'd get a pretty big turnout every single week (I remember getting at least 16 people every week). Mainly because everyone knew they'd get decent/good and varied competition when participating. And also some internet fame to go with it..

It was a lot of fun to do, and if we could get the same thing going on VF, that'd be awesome. Only downside compared to DOA is that VF doesn't have lobbies like DOA did and also the fact that I have to go through a lot of trouble to be able to talk through a mic on my xbox (ie: disconnect my stick and use a controller to connect my mic to), but the upside is that VF is a lot more fun.

Sorry Manji, that I'm so optimistic, but that's just the way I am [IMG] .

If you guys are contemplating on doing monthly tournaments or something, maybe it'd be a good idea to expand it because I'd be pretty jealous if month after month these tournaments are going on and I can't enter any of them!

Yes, but can you honestly say you get a decent connection to all the people in europe who minght be playing? I think it's regional solely because of possible connection issues spoiling it. If it works out well i'm sure the American players will do one too. Then we can have a super lag champions league or something [IMG].

I think the average length of an online tournament is about 2 months.. So thinking about doing 'monthly thing' is.. [IMG]

Ive only been in one online tournament organised in VFDC so far, and iirc it lasted a month and final was never played or something.

Yeah, it's simply because of lag. I don't even know how smoothly a Europe wide tournament will run, lag wise, but it should be ok.

The numbers are increasing which is great, 15 so far I think. Maybe we can start playing earlier, like the 12th December onwards?

I like the idea of a tournament, but I'm still far from the required level here.

What about making also a "2nd division" tournament?

I'm sure there must be other motivated-intermediate players who'd like to participate in an event like that but are afraid to be humiliated. This would be a good opportunity to show to the VF community there's also a new blood rising.

If you read this and you're interested, please let me know.

I would first prefer playing one online tournament. When it comes to an offline ranbat i would gladly join, but this seems kind of impossible in europe...right?

An online ranbat held every month is not what i`d like to participate in...

first because i don`t like to play regularly on fixed dates and times, and
second because i don`t want to play online that much (casuals from time to time are still ok). When i play in tournaments i would try to play ambitious and would be too pissed off when i get owned again by online tactics i neither want to adapt to, nor wanna use myself.

But probably a lot of people would still like to play so i think you might have enough people for a ranbat.

@Krye: I would appreciate it if you don´t connect Online tournaments with offline events (in terms of seeding like you said). Would not be that nice for people who don´t want to join (or simply are not able to) and want to go european offline tourneys. Of course it helps giving a little bit of orientation for seeding...but nothing more.

As there is practically nobody to play offline in the UK I would be up for having a monthly thing organised, otherwise I can't see myself playing VF ever again. I think an offline tournament, despite the unfortunate lag aspect, would be good to keep VF alive to some extent.

I really understand what you say and i agree with it having a chance to keep people playing VF.
At least in germany i tried and still try to some extent to motivate others to play. And of course as for online casuals i will continue playing. Overall i hope to see at least one offline in europe which might motivate a lot of people too.

count me in as well please. I own my own business so i can play anytime.I know my priorities [IMG]

To Zakkapa and anyone else worried about skill level. I regularly get humiliated by most of the above people. The important thing is to get less humiliated each time [IMG]

Even just taking part gives you a focus for your practice, studying your opponents prefered character etc.

@Darius: I know what you mean about online play, I'm probably an even bigger latency-hater than you are [IMG] . Thing is, there's no other choice.. not unless you want to switch over to some other game, or move to Japan.

Tournaments like this are, as far as I can see, the ideal way to keep people interested in playing the game. Only playing casuals can grow boring if there's no bigger picture in the form of a tournament or gathering.

About the seeding thing: the problem is that there's no other way to get a seeding going, other than using the opinion of one or multiple players, which is bound to start a lot of drama(which, I've noticed, happens pretty easily).

Not seeding at offline eventsis not an option either, unless you want to get random brackets a la WCG (although you seem to get lucky with your drawings that way, Darius [IMG] ). Anyway, it's not my call, so don't worry too much. I'm just excited geting back into VF after a couple of months of not playing, so I'm just throwing some suggestions around.

Let's just see what happens with this event before deciding on anything else.

@Dan: I'm down with starting this thing earlier.

I can only play within the next week. After I wont be able to play until middle of January [IMG]

And what happens if two people cannot connect with each other due to internet issues? tried to play Seidon last night,
but couldn't connect to him. Where I'm currently living they have numerous firewalls and ports blocked, so my NAT settings are crap.

If this happened during a tournement, maybe a draw?

I'm also far from the required level but I'm not worried about being beaten I'm just happy for the opportunity to play against other good players, VF5 is on its death bed and this tournament might help to generate some much needed support for the game.

    Seeding:

Hence we haven´t got so many offline-tourney-results seeding might be difficult. Of course i want to seed the players.
If we do this and consider the ranbat-results it won`t be a big deal for me. It really seems like we don´t have that many options...

    Online-Play:

I will participate in that first tourney if i´m free then (but i cannot say yes to every possible ranbat in the future).
And i hope other players don`t dislike online matches that much as i (we) do, so that a lot of players continue playing VF5.

Actually, I don't care about loosing too, it's my daily bread. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I was more worrying about maybe a "VF elitism" which would not give too much place for learning players. Call this some kind of shyness...

But anyway, you're right, it's by fighting against better players you can improve.

So, please count me in too. I'll do my best to annoy you guys the most I can.

PS: mana, long time no play! Whenever you want for an online session...
