I think the combo counter only comes up in replays.

The game doesn't need Star Wars characters, or Dragon Ball Z characters, or Godzilla, or Kangaroos or Donkeys or whatever...

It just need the costumes so you can dress your character up to look like that.

We've seen the Lei Fei that pretty much dressed his character up to be a Goku clone. Even if you don't like Dragon Ball (like myself) I got a major kick out of that costume design.

If Sega new what it was doing with marketing the game then kids would eat VF up like they do with many other fighting games.

This is just a small example of how VF is never marketed right for consoles.

By the way, I'm too lazy to look through this thread to see if I've posted this idea here already :-(

Maybe if they added more serious characters like Ryo from Shenmue or B.M. from FV as a hidden boss or something.

The game is too plain. It has better graphics than most games but is not every breaktaking. I love the game but when i see a Vid i have an inkling of whats going on. I show it to my friends and with the exception of 5+ hit comboes, all i get is 'Meh'.

People stay for the gameplay, which VF has, but you have to do something to make people want to play the game in the first place. This has been said before and will forever be said because SEGA Just don't give a ... well, you get the picture.

A little flash could go a loooong way with VF, and it doesn't have to affect the gameplay if done right.

I don't know if I agree with that. I would easily classify the graphics as breathtaking. My brother was in town visiting this past weekend and when he first saw VF5 he asked what it was and exclaimed that they were the best graphics he'd ever seen. He immediately wanted to try the game...it was at that point that he lost interest since he had absolutely no idea what to do and the game moved too fast for his tastes. So, I really don't know what the "solution" to the popularity problem would be in this case but I don't think it's graphics.

Not every game needs to be a top seller to be successful, anyway. In my limited time with VF5 I'd say that this is destined to be for hardcore players and will never hit the same levels of popularity of a Street Fighter. And that's not a bad thing!

    Yes it is.

Sega is trying to make money so eventually they'll stop making the game if it isn't selling well enough. We'd see much better support for the game over seas if it sold better over here.

Shit we might even get patches if it sold better.

There is also the variety of players you get from more people playing. More people and more popular the game becomes the more fun it becomes for everyone.

Yes you get an influx of scrubs, but that's a nature of being new not being a popular game.

I don't know if special characters should be added, TBH.

On the one hand, yeah it could sell more copies. On the other, they'd be forced to keep the special characters thing for other iterations.

I don't think special characters would help it sell unless they put Sonic the Hedgehog in as downloadable content or something.

They just need better advertising. A short commercial of a good Kage or Akira combo, showing off the graphics (since everything is going HD... even KOF...) would boost sales.

Kage can do the sonic roll...that's close enough.

Don't you badmouth sonic now. He's just been having a hard time, but he was greatness incarnate back in the day. Friggin' talent in sonic team all left for who knows what. They last sonic game had actual good level design for the sonic stages. They just felt the need to throw in this second form of sonic that ruined it.

I'd gladly pay to just play the sonic levels in that game.

Funny thing about VF is whenever a new Iteration comes out it take 3-D models and poly pushing to the next level consistanly.

This is why VF5R has 6 to 9 hit combo's that requires skills to set up rather that poppin up/Launching opponents in the air for bogus juggles.
