Eh, who cares? That reviewer got beat 20-1. Maybe he just had too much time on his hands.

Besides, if you're gonna read the gamefaqs revews, you can just stick to mine. They're much better reading, anyway.

    guys

plz read his review one more time.

I think u'll be able to see the *sacarsm* in his review.

Just think of the opposite...trust me. He making a mockery of the current state of gamers that judge a game that is not 3d, no 60fps, cannot take games that are too hard etc etc etc.

Yes it's a joke. Notice how he mentions FF7 when he talks of himself being a hardcore gamer and all... /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would say he is a fan of the game himself (probably). /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Damn, I guess I just didn't get it because there's sooooooo many people complaining about games being too hard these days. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Plus, when it comes to GameFAQs reviews, there's always at least one asshole reviewer who doesn't like a good game. Like the guy who wrote this Soul Calibur review. Well, if I remember correctly, he is an MvC2 player, and we all know what that means.

(I still don't like Soul Calibur, but I can recognize it as good...)

I got Ikaruga yesterday, but I'm still leaning towards Dodonpachi. Of course, the horrible Gamecube controller probably didn't help. Maybe I should have just shelled out the extra 30 or so for the import Dreamcast version...

horrible gc controller? How hard is it to play on the analog with the three buttons that you need? If it's that bad, invest in the upcoming hori pads. They are like snes pads with no analog.

The fact that the "FPS" thing can even be cited proves it's an isolated incident.

And as for that "big-headed high scorer" thing... um... are you sure you're not just making that up? I haven't seen it anywhere at TNL or shmups.com. Surely no one dedicated enough to reach those scores is childish enough do so... and of course no one in Japan is like that... /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Definitely an isolated incident. Most of the shmups.com talk is very mature, with instant answers to obscure non-shmup questions, and they're very welcoming to newbies. On the other hand, they're currently on a 60+ post thread about tits and ass /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Other shooter-related stuff, thought some of you reading this might not have heard of Noiz2sa - its a free jp PC shmup that's sorta like the unholy spawn of Rez and Dodonpachi.

Oh, it's pretty bad with the analog. The D-Pad is way too small for quick sidesteps, let alone awkward to reach...

I should visit the General Chat more often... Shmup poetry! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif Now that's hardcore.

Shmup poetry: Like bad goth poetry, except dorkier to the 1000000000th power. XD

I've gotten to the point where I can't play shooters on a pad decently anymore. I need a stick. Yes, JP arcades have truly ruined me. Thankfully, I have one for all my systems.

I've also made a point of collecting kickass homebrew shooters. I picked up quite a few at Comic Market. I'll be highlighting a couple of them in the article I'm writing for TNL.

in other shooter news Psyikyo has closed down their games division. Another shmups company bites the dust /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Er, Psikyo was never a shooter company. Their bread and butter were mahjong games, which in turn financed the shooters.

Almost no company can survive exclusively on shooters. That's why you see folks like Cave and Eighting/Raizing doing outsourced and mobile phone development.

My review for the game here:

    http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/showthread.php?s=029ab57cdba30727894eec7a82e05b14&threadid=19187

I could have gone a lot more in-depth about various game aspects, but since TNL is a general gaming site as opposed to shooter-centric (and the review was pretty long-winded as is) I opted not to.

Also of interest: on the bonus DVD is a player who goes under the name of NAL. A conversation with Kurita and Bearcrusher revealed that NAL is none other than your friend and mine, Homestay Akira. Jeezus, is there anything he is NOT good at?
