Ahh gotcha. Yeah I'll be there tomorrow actually. For sure man, I'll be glad to help. Unfortunately I don't have an Xbox, only PSN so the most I can do is probably help you offline which is 100% inputs with the Frame data on.

I respect that, as I'm also a very honest player and can't mash (you would laugh if you were to ever see me play a character like Alpha lol). However, wouldn't you agree that scheme is well within all fighting games?

Every fighter has that one specific layer where a certain bunch of people will understand how to utilize that layer more than everyone else (even if majority eventually gets it, some will always figure how to make the best of it). It's not exactly DOA specific, however, it is what makes it different (and fighting games all have something unique to them in their own right).

That same thing can be said when a person or persons figure out what a character is supposed to do, specifically. What it's really good at and and what cannot do too well.

I don't find the stun and threshold system to be so problematic as some others would. Probably because I understood why the threshold is there, as well as the hold system and the basic triangle system (and some other things).

You are correct that this layer exist in all fighters. However it is just bananas in DOA and I'll show you some examples.

In SF3: Third Strike anyone can spam, but one good defensive guess via parry and you can punish a spammer very badly.

In SF4 Ken players love to fierce DP till the cows come home, but one good bait to make then whiff and you can punish them very badly.

In VF a lot of characters can spam, but defend a combo ender, make a high move whiff or side step at the right moment and you can punish them very badly.

In MK defend special moves or some sweeps and you can punish them very badly.

In DOA defending combo enders and some big moves often gets you nothing or a measly throw punish which IMO is not enough to condition a spammer. A person can spam all they want but when they get blown up they will eventually stop and THINK maybe I need to look at the game from a different angle. Now if throw punishes were the 12 frame throws then I'd have no gripes about defending a Christy or Alpha combo.

And side stepping in DOA IMO is not that good compared to other games life Soul Calibur, Tekken and VF. Shit I think MK4's side step system is better than DOA's.

Yeah usually Fridays or Saturdays. But because of life, I may not go back till like a couple weeks or next month or so. I'll definitely post here ahead of time if you want on the next time I'm going.

I'm the same way. I'm very old school, and calculative in my play, so online makes me rage to the max. I'll get hit, and beat out by things that makes absolutely no sense. If you ever want to try getting some games in let me know.

Online, perhaps not, because offline when I've played other players who didn't know any better and tried to "spam" stuff against me in the SoCal scene, I wasn't having it. I would throw everything they did wrong ALL THE TIME and would strike/whiff punish a lot. People will eventually slow down when you force them to recognize this. Especially when I would i12 frame throw something and deal 100+ with Ayane. Seeing that life bar dwindle down will make people think twice. Online people are pretty stupid so that's probably not likely, lol.

Side stepping in DOA is also actually very good. It's just a poorly misused and misunderstood mechanic since a lot (emphasis on a lot) of players haven't figured out how to use it.

Most don't even realize you can Option Select throw break during a side step... or even bother to use it at end of a block string :meh:

Didn't know about the throw break, but I do try to use it occasionally to dodge enders.

@iHajinShinobi Looks like I'll have to read up on side step a bit on FSD. Any specific thread I should look at? Although I don't get the finer things in DOA5U I'm not lazy about trying to acquire the knowledge needed to get over the hump.

@DestructionBomb - Yeah man please post up in advance when you are going. Trust this bitter old man knows all to well how real life shit can keep you busy. Anyway, hopefully in the near future we both free and we can link up. I'd love to get better at the game because I owe @Sorwah a beat down and would love to get good enough to enter a tourney for shits and giggles. At my current level I'd be KO'ed at character select lol.

I would also like to add that game isn't "poorly balanced". Literally every character can win in the game. All of the characters interact with the environment well & no match up is "unwinnnable".

It sucks that the netcode is bad because it's how a lot of people practice & they're playing the way that they learned/know how to play, which was by practicing online. The game itself is great. I encourage you all to give it a go. It's even better than vanilla. If you don't like it for certain reasons, then it's understood.

I was playing against another DoA player offline this weekend, at the beginning we were even on wins, but then I said "hey, it's offline, I can actually block lows and do my stuff" and I started a HUGE win streak on him.

That's how awful this game online is.

I don't think we have a thread that thoroughly explains DOA5/DOA5U's side step mechanic, actually. Sadly, we (by this I mean us knowledgeable DOA players) need to do a better job explaining this stuff and other things for others, I admit. On our forums and wiki.

What console do you normally play on? Maybe we can play some time and I can explain some things you may want to know?

    Gotcha, it's cool.

When did you go on the weekend? I'm trying to gather more players so that we can all play.

Yeah, what Sorwah said, I'm from Brazil (São Paulo, to be more specific), that's hella far away from where you are lol I always come out to Final Round though, and sometimes I try coming out to other majors in US as well.
