It might be a sign try it out and see. Then a sure sign would be when you only use the stick on the PS2 controller and not the d pad. If you feel you need to use a stick try using the stick on the controller instead of the d pad and see if it is true or not

FlyMike: Go for the stick, it's how fighters are meant to be played. You'll get used to the joystick movement quickly and it'll feel more natural. The larger buttons will improve your accuracy and possibly keep your hand more relaxed so you have longer play times. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have no skill. I'm very bad at doing even basic combos.

I play on stick since Soul Calibur1 but I'm almost sure I would be better on pad.
Still prefer my Sanwa Stick because it is more fun.

Try a stick out at a friends or at an arcade.

this may seem weird, but I use both pads on the controller. It seems to work pretty well for me at least

Its been about 2 months since I fully transitioned from the pad to a stick and it was well worth it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Since I started VF I have been a strong advocate of the pad and always argued that it was equal to the stick. Well here and now I am recanting that statement and saying the stick is far better then the pad! My ability has increased ten fold since I adapted to the stick and now cant believe I ever used the pad.

I actually got a stick a long time ago with Evo but used the same excuse that I did back in November with the 360 release, I found it too hard to transition and I couldn't play my best. After the down direction on my 360 dpad become useless I had to either cough up 50$ or use my stick. So I forced myself to use it, playing quest mode on expert and just relearning my movement.

Best decision yet, everyone buy a stick! This sounds like an infomercial lol.

Sticks are the best for Virtua Fighter and for me pads are the best for Street Fighter and all Capcom fighting games.

I've been considering going stick, especially since I use Aoi and her 180 degree throws and such can be a pain on the pad...

Learning to do her 270 degree throws are even worse starting off. That are nasty too especially when you can buffer them after a jab or side step. If you want to practice with an arcade stick then try the stick on the controller at first and see how it feels. A good stick will feel about the same if not better.

I tried the mini stick on the pad and didn't like it. Even now it feels odd to me. Almost too sensitive and I am not accurate with it at all, maybe due to the thumb being the source of control. Just a personal preference probably.

A thumb stick is nothing like a full stick. I could never play Street Fighter with an analog stick but I can play it all day with an arcade stick though I prefer a digital pad.

Stick is vastly better than a pad for VF5.

In my experience, the pad made me have limited options with various of fighters. Playing on a stick made my game jump to a certain point and something I can grow off of. It definitely saved me alot of quarters for games like CvS2, SF3rdstrike, Tekken in the arcade, and especially vf4 and 5.
