BK_ you simply haven't played enough players and I'm sure you never played a Vannesia like this one

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM4KXjFzNkw

A lot of people do this and while it can be beaten it breaks the "fun" of the game..It's simply just not enjoyable to fight against this tactic..This will be my last post regarding the matter of awkward/strong tactics. New players are arriving so this is not the time to talk down on VF5 when so many new players are trying to learn the game. BTW due to the walking speeds differing between all characters in VF5 this is something much harder to do in VF4

but that turtling took more skill ;P and it was more fun! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
I think we need to accept 5 has big flaws in the same way it is and can be a fun and one of the most balance fighting games, the truth is usually somewhere in the middle..

Turtling is turtling. Doesn't really matter what kind of "skill" it takesto stay as far away from everything as possible.

VF4 ver A-C was probably just as fucked up as VF5, really.

and following that logic we have to accept that am2 cannot learn from their past mistakes and are forever doomed to repeat the past, doomed I tell thee!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I agree that that was a GROSS way to play Vanessa... I don't use Sarah so I don't know what he could have done but if I was fighting him with Goh I would have just stalked him around the ring using Goh's kick sabaki ( /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif)... Regardless that was a pretty cheap tactic period. I think SEGA may need to tone the top tier characters down a little and that would do a lot for the gameplay and game balance.

I do think when you swarm an opponent that tries that hard to maintain a certain distance, their game usually falls apart. That Vanessa will own you from mid-range but may suck under more pressure.

Further, I'm not sure that what she was doing was exactly turtling. It was more like a very annoying style of poking.

This Vane is truly a coward. I mean, letting the opponent come and then attack is so CPU. It's the same like wait till your opponent makes a move and throw him after. But the good karma won and Sarah could make this match hers.

I was very happy to see the sarah player win that match, good way of shutting down the poke run game. It's a pet peeve of mine when I run into an opponent like that.

If you're at the arcade and you actually put money into the machine and someone plays you like that Vanessa, I think you have a legitimate excuse to Basara them...

Although Vanessa lost in the end, that did show a fairly abusable flow for her. That takes, IMHO, very little skill and could stymie even a very good player. There should be some honor when playing VF but there's always the Divid Sirlin "Low Strong" type that figures anything in the game is legit because it's "in the game."

I have never agreed with this line of thought and I think this type of play is more common outside of the US (although I may be quite wrong about that.) However, I don't really see how AM2 thought certain moves and flows wouldn't be used that way.

They gave Vanessa a huge move set with a number of uncommonly good moves (I'm not trying to debate game balance, the game is pretty balanced) and I don't see how they couldn't have predicted that some schmuck would play that way. It seems painfully obvious to me that there are tactics in the game that are abusable, but AM2 must have wanted it that way... After all, this is the 3rd release of the game, with gameplay tweaks and that stuff is still in there.

I just watched the infamous Shun vs Akira vid in the first page of the thread and laughed out loud at the complaints directed at his skill level.

    1) He raped that Akira hard by reading him.

    2) Isn't that Itabashi Zangief? No skill? It's definitely Ohsu that gets owned though.

God I'm getting tired of that one, now 1yearold, video pasted as "proof" of Vanessa backdash or VF gameplay being broken. One would think another video would have surfaced during that years time of this "general" gameplay style. Instead you tards keep posting it, even though it's obviously biased by Shou, from another Revision, and he even won the fucking match. Hell the only reason he didn't win it easier is cause he played wrongly first rounds before he adapted better cause he wasn't used to the playstyle... It's a movie of a 7th dan Sarah vs a 5th Dan Vanessa for fucks sake.

Also; anyone who thinks that the Shun player wasn't a better player doesn't understand VF. No skill = delay chauwan against failed evade or getting hit by DE and doing K+G as RN when the Akira dashes in these days?

Newsflash: That Shun player was better.

Instead of a fun thing probably (yes he's machi, so what) western VF players on a site interpet is as the reason he won actually was cause of that clowning. He could've finished the fight earlier. The aoi and eil user was closer to his skilllevel. Yeah Shun backwalk is really great, 9th or 10th in the game speedwise. Van's backwalk speed is worse then Jackys and Eileens but nobody ever has said a fucking word about them. Why? Cause they don't have a 1yearold youtube movie I guess of two lowranked players.

No, this is offtopic as it is.

Agreed. Teambattles are something special in VF in someway and always a joy to watch. Thanks for the link.

That's definitely not Itazan. Itazan's playstyle is far from machi. He likes being aggresive. Only time he'll be backing away is if he's exploiting the threat of a ring-out.

Which is why I cannot, CANNOT wait to watch this year's SBO matches.

And man, AdamYuki and KiwE bringing the truth in full-force to this thread.

denkai, i'd love to watch the video(or any for that matter), but chinese government blocked out youtube atleast for the moment.

i've played a wide range of players, including kashin's vanessa. and i know the difficulty of character based learning. but i think it's nothing new to VF.

you want to know what else i can tell you about? -- lower mids like akira's DE going under wolf's high jab in any circumstance. that narrows choices for wolf and jeffry only.

in any case, i think am2's aim was to make the game more character based. and im sure that sarah, and any character has their own mechanics which can break the flow of the system too which requires extra learning time.

but again, nothing new to VF.

I'm not hating on anybody's opinion or post on this thread. I've learned a lot from just reading most of what has been written here. But I have two questions:

    1. Couldn't that Sarah player have sidestepped and then used OM to move in on Vanessa and improve Sarah's position and corner Vanessa against the walls?
    2. With walls and ring outs, can you really run around the ring forever in VF against a skilled player?

Edit: I would really like to know. I'm asking bc I don't know if what I'm asking would work or not.

This is what some vets may have with vf5 its more about matchups in old games you could just learn the system and be fine vf 5 is more dynamic.....(which leads to more work):/
