Columbus, OH .. a new start!

We have worked out the problems, so if any of you crazy St. Louis people want to come down here some time then I'll put up for the person (or people) to stay at my place. I would like to let you people know that everyone else is still into VFing but truth be told we've been extraordinarily busy with everything from schooling (all 3 other people), to starting businesses (Avih20) to dealing with the responsibility of taking care of a child (I have to take care of niece). We on occasion just take a break from things like games so we don't get burned out on life in general. We're starting back up fittingly with an Evo preperational tourney held by KBNova of Gamecombos fame. It's gonna be mad fun but we will be ready for it.

 

Speaking only for myself, I'm not playing ANYTHING seriously right now. Not SC, not DDR, not GG, not 3S, and not VF. I'm too preoccupied/worried/focused on finishing school and getting a real job. So my mind is not in gaming right at the moment, I have too much other shit to worry about right now. I would spend my time looking for new combos/setups, but now I have to spend that time doing school work and looking for a job...

Hopefully soon I will have the time/money/ability to begin gaming seriously again. I only hope I can make it happen soon enough to have the time/money/ability to attend NYG4 and FSB.

But right now my mind's not in it.

BTW, I'm going to be at LANLords today around 7pm, I'll bring my PS2 so we can play VF.

And there's a tournament on Sunday...

Sup Madagascar? Glad you and your friends have been having nice VF matches lately. Heh..I got rid of my Pelicans too. Friend of mine (KungfuSmurf) gave me an Evo stick for $30 and a ps2 controller. Not bad eh? Anyway, if I'm able to get some transportation I'll definitely try to go to Ohio soon for some comp as I am tired of just playing the AI everytime /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'm dying to play against your Akira again and also going against KojiroSon's Lei. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, I finally get away from Pelican stick. It still needs

more time for me to get used to Hory sticks, but since

thesedays Kojiro let me use his stick so that I have

chance to get accustomed to it, I start to feeling more

Any of us going to FSB on October? I checked plane
tickets today, and the cheapest one is $218. There seems to be no discount for more people. If any of you
interested, make a move(saving money, talk to grandma ETC) as soon as possilbe before the ticket price goes up into the sky.

 

Yes, I think I'll prolly be able to go but it depends on some variables now so we'll have to see.

 

K duders, here's the deal with me -

I'm about to receive a severance check, and depending on how much it is, I'll then decide if I'm going or not. It'll definitely be enogh to go, but I want to save up most of it for misc. living expenses until I can get a job.

Process of develping a new scene or players.

Some theories.

1. A group of people started developing an interest of the game and play it on a regular basis. They will have competition and motivation which is necessary for a lasting VF scene in N.A.

-> This is the best case, period. If they can get better
at the game at similar rate, this group will be emerged
as a new scene depending upon how serious each individual is. (Example: Florida)


2. Someone who used to play Tekken or other games
picked up VF4 and started liking the game. He will play
Quest mode and develop even more interest. He practices hard and loves the game, but he doesn't
know about VFDC.com or anyone who plays the game
in his area. So, after a while, he will quit playing the game.

-> This is a sad case since the person has drive and
desire to get better but doesn't have people to play nor
where to find those people. I bet there are many potential hardcore VF players who quit playing game only for this reason. Example: A lot of unknown local
players.

3. A group of people started playing the game, but
only few of them are serious players.

-> The group will thin out since serious players will
improve much quicker than casual players. Casual players will lose interest sooner or later, and the serious players will left out alone. Since they are serious, they don't quit playing the game, so they practice hard for national gathering.

Example: Lots of lonely VFDC regulers.

4. Someone picks up the game and plays quest mode
for a long time until he finds the VFDC.com.

-> This is the case that we have to focus on. He won't
be as good as experienced players, but since he's played Quest mode for a long time, he knows all the basic and more, so it will be easy for us to help him
better at the game.

Example: some new players on this board who
recently started joining to the prexisted gatherings.

5. Total newbies who want to play the game after watching us playing at Lanlords.

-> This is the case that I am not very interested because if they play us, they will lose interest very quickly. We can teach them basics of the game, and it will take hours for them to understand it cause basics
of VF is not that easy. What we have to do is encourge
them to get a copy of the game and answer to questions when we are asked.

Example: The loud black dude who played me 100 games last weekend, thinking that it wiil improve his game by playing me and keep losing eventhough he
doesn't know nothing about the game. No, thanks.

 

Well, that guy in particular is a different story...

But I think it would be a good idea when the US version comes out to have Rich, Pikes, Skel, and others play through command and tutorial training first. Then just let them play against each other, and we can encourage them and give them tips. This would be the best route IMHO for them, because I don't see them playing a lot any other way.
