Are there any compatibilty(pal/ntsc) issues for the official evo stick? Will any evo stick work on any ps2 or do I need to buy a pal specific evo stick to work on a pal ps2?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are no issues at all when it comes to joysticks.

I wanna know what people think about the Dreamcast arcade stick?

They're so cheap these days it's almost insane(!), and AFAIK it's not too hard converting them to work on PS2. Someone has even said they're the best sticks ever made, and even if that's a matter of opinion it says a lot (coming from a player who has used all kind of sticks).

Re: Diff. betw. SC2 and VF Stick

Ok, I have a couple of questions that hopefully catch22 or one of you guys can answer.

    1) What exactly are the differences between the SC2 and VF stick? I own the SC2, but I'm a collector regardlelss and thinking of getting the VFevo stick. However, If there is no difference between the sticks themselves and the buttons or layout in any single way, then I suppose getting another SC2 stick would be my best bet, so I can play vf and other games. I did read though that the sticks and buttons are different on the evo stick. Help please?

    2) For catch22, I've made my own sticks before so I'm no stranger to how these work and whatnot, so I don't need any technical info, I just want to know how do I get a sanwa stick w/ buttons. I want to place them in my SC2 stick the way you did in the Namco stick. The sanwa site is all japanese as mentioned before and that other site you mentioned earlier (in english) sells in bulk, correct?

    Re: Choosing a stick

I usually play on an Evo Hori, and I don't like the stick on the SC2 one at all (or the TK4 stick, they use the same base design). Though I'm kind of picky about japanese sticks, since I used to play on a MAS, but I think they use different springs/microswitches on the SC2 stick or something, because I've never liked it very much. Always feels like the deadzone is too big or the spring resistance kicks in stronger/weaker at wierd ranges of motion. But a lot of people use it, so to each their own, I guess.

BTW, has anyone had a chance to try the new SvC Chaos stick (hur hur, yeah laugh it up)? Because I've heard nothing but positive things about it, and I was thinking about getting one in the future. Supposedly the motion gate is an octagon instead of a square, and the spring is tighter than most jpn sticks, which sounds excactly like what I'm looking for. Anyone here have some experience with it?

I know many of you have used or at least tried DC sticks, so come on - share your experiences! I'm still waiting.

    Re: Choosing a stick

I have the dreamcast stick, and I think it's pretty good for the price (got it for $20). The stick is good, but after getting sanwa parts recently there is a noticeable difference. If you don't want to spend a lot on a stick then this isn't a bad one to grab.

I'm might put try and put a sanwa stick in there sometime if I get around to finishing some sticks first.

sorry guys, been away for awhile...

Just got a 350z, and my minds been on that. I see there are alot of interest peaking again in Sanwa sticks. Basically guys, the Sanwa representative have stopped communicating with me, which is unfortunate, so the only what to come by them are other means than directly from Sanwa.

One other thing,... I do have time to build sticks. I'm going to devote this weekend to one I promised a forum regular. I do have another stick set (ball), and I'm going to sell my Sanwa Bat stick (the one with Sarah) to someone who wants it (check my Joystick Builder site) for those who're interested. The bat stick is the sturdiest m/f'er I've ever played with, including american arcades. That stick is top quality, even having a metal bearing, which is most of the time plastic, and when scratched, produces the "sandpaper" feel.

Personally, my style adapts well to bats or balls (get your mind out of the gutter). Also, the stick has been hardly played with (less than 3 hours). Just wanted to see what using a bat stick would feel like ( bat with a proper button layout unlike the USarcades).

I just have to repaint the base, white or black.

One disclaimer though,... since these are "one of a kind, hand made buggers," they aren't cheap. It'salso a heavy son of a gun, with IMO, is the best trait for a stick.

If you're interested, PM me... oh yeah, you have to prepay before I send it out. Sorry, it's just to protect my ass.

    Oscar Award Winning Thread :)

Hi guys! Wow this certainly is the thread of the fucking decade! Lots of good comments and opinions here! Anyway I'll make this quick and simple. I own a MAS stick for the PS2 and have JUST started command training with Akira(no, you're not going to talk me out of it /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

I have been playing VF4 Evo on and off for the past couple of months with the PS2 pad using Lau, and figured I'd be satisfied with just him and my trusty PS2 pad. Well I am wrong!

I want to get good with Akira using a stick instead of a pad, thus I've started using my MAS.

Big problem though...diagonals are a fucking BITCH to get out with stick! I dunno whether it's the MAS Stick or American bat designed sticks in general, but the stick rolls into other, unwanted directions when all I want it to do is hit *one* direction! For example it's getting really frustrating trying to pull off Akira's[3][K]+[G][6][P][4][6][6][P]+[K] on this thing. Upon hitting [4][3], the stick decides it wants to "take the guided tour" through [1][2] before it gets to [3]. WTF? It's really annoying.

So I am wondering....are Jap style sticks like Catch's better than the American bat ones for diagonal and just directional movement in general, especially using Akira? I have managed to struggle my way through command training with Akira but some commands take up to an hour to pull off just once! Will I have an easier time with his moves if I get a Catch22 stick? Or would I just be satisfied with an Horii Evo stick?

Another distraction is, my MAS has a concave, 8 button layout...hardly what you call a VF4 arcade replica. I would imagine it'd be slightly easier on a Catch or Horii Evo...right?

I have two joysticks for VF: a Reflex Gamester Arcade Stick and the Hori VF4E Stick. The Gamester has a circular joystick base and the Hori is square shaped base and they both have the same problem hitting diagonals that you mentioned. I'm kinda wondering if the actual arcade sticks have this same problem (there's not a VF arcade machine within 100 miles of me.)? I t doesn't affect my playing too much, but it's still a glaring problem.

Ever try to play all your favorite Black Sabbath tunes on guitar? It took me some practice but after a little while I was able to rock quite hard if I do say so myself. I learned on my friend's little cheapo Peavey but then I was at a party & I entertained my buddies on this real nice acoustic. I bet I could play Paranoid on a mandolin were I in a tight spot.

Akira is just like this. His movelist is difficult to master no matter what you are using. Practice hard & your MAS stick should work fine...Unless you just gotta have that Les Paul.

Diagonals are just a matter of playin the game enough, everyone has exe problems 2 start on stick, just know that it's the practice, u ask if someone with 20,000 matches has problems with exe and unless he's the most unlearned person ever, the answer will be no.

Getting into this thread kinda late but anyway...
I ordered a customized multi-game stick from this dude:

    http://www.geocities.com/konxept/

I told him everything I wanted on the joystick: color, button type, artwork; I even asked for a rainbow spread for the buttons. He's taken down a lot of his pictures. This dude even did personalize cabinets to put the sticks in.
His work is good for someone who has a lot of different games to play, but only money for one stick. A warning: mine weighs in atleast 10 lbs.

I bought the Horii VF stick as well. At first I hated it with a passion. It is so loose and I hated the square. I actually went back to the pad since I was so frustrated. However, the more time I put into the stick, the better. I am quite happy with the stick now and have few mistakes due to [3][1][7][9] now.

Although I had to pay an arm and a leg for shipping...:(

I've been using my Namco Stick too for three years now, it got me through my Tekken Tag day's and is still going strong for Evo. Great for modding moves (Kage's Knee, Akira's Shrm etc) and I find Akira's knee EASY on it, I still haven't found a better stick and I've tried a SC2, Tekken 4, CVS Chaos etc and NONE have bettered it. Although Catch's Stick's are probably better (AND LOOK MINT!) Chamone!

    Maybe somone can advise me
I just got my arcade stick and am haning really big problems with diagonals though it's getting better, Do Sticks get loser with more play or do you just get used to them and get good with them. I've only had it like one day.
I've got a logic 3 stick (I know, nit the best stick)

Only thing I can say about it is: You'll get used to it. Keep playing crappy with the stick. You'll get to play well with it after a while.

Happens everytime, with everyone. It's like riding a bike. Feels weird/hard at first glance. But once you get used to it, it's easy as pie.
