On top of what I have said, many of us (I'm pretty sure) wouldn't mind coming up with the combo strings and perhaps to be put up in the form of a poster foreveryone to learn. It'll make life for all the newbies alot easier. I'm sure this will increase players.

Vf4evo is really a deep game compared to many.

In Japan, ALL the Walls are filled with pictures of combos strings for ALL characters.

I guess for a start, we could describe the fundamentals of the game like movements, dodging, throw escapes followed by a full movelist for every character? Without a full movelist, there is no way we can talk about combos strings imo. On the other hand, how much space can we have to put up such things?

They were ?? *scratches his head trying to remember...* /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif I think I probably spent too much time eating all the great food there... /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, I was thinking that some publicity would be nice. In the old days when Challenger was one of the the bigger arcades around, there were massive discounts in order to increase the popularity of the game. Stuff like, $0.50 a game from the then $2.50 a game. Maybe we could do something like a promotional period of $0.50 for 2 credits ? We could also move the more underused machines from other branches to Bugis to facilitate the expected surge in use, but then, it could lead to the machines being underused again, unless its an island wide thing perhaps ?

If not... Well, that would mean that we have to leave a machine open so that other people can try while we beat the crap outta each other on the other. (But knowing our bloodlust.... that's gonna be REALLY hard...) Besides, Singaporeans are suckers for freebies and cheap games...

The other problem highlighted before was that most average/new players wouldn't want to play the game much after getting trounced by any of the more regular players. This is especially so, since some of the old VF3 crowd decided to stick to SC2 for those same reasons.... /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif I mean, has anyone seen anyone from the pre-evo days other than the regular group anymore ?? Even if they are around, they tend not to play, prefering to watch. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif We have tons of bystanders, but no players. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have no access to VF.Net, so trying to promote the use of the cards will probably be an unhill battle... And we don't have JAMMA exhibitions held here anymore... But then, the arcade entertainment market here is not really big in comparison to other countries.

What about Competitions ? AFAIK, there's been no Maximum Battles (or its equivalent) held anymore, but we can probably crack something up. Back then, quite a number of Tournaments were held, but the main drawback was mostly the "Entry Fees". Maximum Battle had the highest popularity for a tournament. Not to mention the fact that a tournament could draw most PS2 players outta the woodwork...

Prize wise, what was there ? S$1.5K for the Winner plus a Plane ticket to Japan for Maximum Battle ? We probably couldn't do anything like that for a local tournament, so how about normal Consumer Electronics ? Those are relatively inexpensive to purchase nowadays. I mean, a good DVD player costs what now ? $300 ? The problem comes when its deciding who would bear the cost of the tournament...

Thoughts ? Man, I'm starting to think that maybe I can do this as a project for my course.... /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif But then, I wonder how anyone can keep playing games like KOF which has so many incarnations since KOF 94..... *Shakes head*

We can start with print-outs of the VFDC movelists or photocopies of movelists/character sections from the Japanese guides.

OR, one of us could simply donate a guide to put in the arcade, but I'm a little leery that kiasu people will steal the stuff.

Ice: Agrees...even instruction labels get torn off the machine...

What i can suggest is you guys giving me the soft copy and me getting the printouts. I'll then figure out a way to have it displayed. Currently SC2 has a full movelist , in the form of a clear file, in CS for borrowing. Trying to figure out how to safely attach them to machines..

Rulakir: In the SC2 community, we have a tendancy to approach bystanders or fresh players to try and educate them about the game. Take a peep here:

    Project SGN

In fact things a already starting to move...more new faces introduced to the rest of the guys...new users posting on the forums... really hope it can materialize.. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If someone lends you a 100-page guide with movelists and pictures of the moves, would the arcade be able to photocopy the whole thing and put it for display?

    Zyeith Well-Known Member

......ca we start with the fundamentals first?

Or does that already take up 100pages? /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I was thinking, how about Page 358 to Page 393 of the guide book instead ? Its has no pictures, but it does list out every available move in the game for each character. People would probably have a better idea what's available in the game instead of just depending on pictures no ?

But a better way might be just to print out the movelists available on VFDC ?

  14. ice-9

    ice-9 Well-Known Member

Well, some guides have pictures of the moves and the commands for those moves. When starting a new character, I always found that kind of format most helpful. Sometimes when you look at a big movelist full of commands it's difficult to remember what move does what.

Can i suggest we get the no pics one up first?

As for the explaining part, thats where you guys come in! See someone trying to figure out some moves, approach and get him into the community! Just my 2 cents worth. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll be printing the movelists for SVC Chaos soon. If we can confirm on this, i'll print VF's together?

Hey, /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif where have you been. Haven't seen you in Bugis for quite some time. I think F-zero has not arrive in Singapore yet. Yesterday was at Bugis and did not see the game.

Sure or not? That game can use Orochi Iori you know? Lousy game balance... I think CvsS2 is a better game, although old but still a lot of challengers.

I think I'll still play VF, but maybe only once every fortnight or so, kinda sianz liao cos no challengers and damn card reader always break down. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif
