Dat’s one of the reasons why I dun wan to buy the card lah. People buy card to rank up, to keep track of winning percentage, if I buy, it will only keep track of my losing percentage, really 'baiseh' .

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wish fewer people would think like this...who really cares if you have a losing percentage anyway? It's not as though everyone is 50%+...only a few cards are and there are a lot of "gao shou" players with below 50%.

Part of the attraction of playing with the card is that it can be used to monitor progress, and also to match up against other players. So if you have a 40% winning rate and if you see someone else playing with a similar rate, you might feel more comfortable in challenging that person.

Anyway, it's really fun to rank up and there's really no pressure to win until you get to the shodan level. If more people would buy a card and use the card to play, there'll be less and less stigma about a losing record and a higher chance for everyone to move up ranks.

I think another reason why some players do not invest in a card is becos they don't frequent the arcade. Thus, to them it's a waste of money n because they don't go often, it become pointless.

I too, feel that ppl are taking this whole % business too seriously.

I personally, cannot use those sticks to save my life. As of todae, my akira has 2 wins only, with a win percentage of 16% lol

My other characters on my other cards aren't doing any better (poor goh, zero wins!) .

But like I have said to others b4, given a choice I'll still pick arcade over ps2 gatherings any day. The atmosphere is better. It's just more fun.

So to those that do not feel *brave* enuff to use cards n play. Plz do!...no one is gonna laugh at u or make jokes abt it. (I cannot imagine anyone in our age group will still do such a dipshit action)

Think I’ll have to agree on that one.

Anyway, to be honest, my main reason for not getting the cards is Bugis. It's really out of the way from my work place and home.

I know this card thing has been out for quite a while now and it is only this week that I am able to check it out due to a slightly less ‘frenzied’ work schedule. And when I was there, I was very tempted to get one. Really. But then, I was asking myself, “After today, when will I be here again?â€Â...Naah.

Hmm..Only if our friend here could put up a card system at Sun Plaza…

I’m only kidding Zyeith /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Seriously, you have already done enough for the VF community here. And even an Evo card system up in the north wouldn’t attract much players. Just too damn far for most of you and there are too many KOFers up there too. Heck, in fact they are everywhere. And now with this KOF competition coming up at Star Factory, there will be truckloads of them practicing in the arcade now.

I really hope to bump into you guys some day. Oh well…

Oh, and Summah, I know this is a little late..welcome back to this hot and humid island.

I just remembered. Several of my friends are interested in vf4e and asked me to coach them /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif . Apart from the fact that I'm just an average player, I also don't know where to start. Anyone got any tips, or shall I direct them to the experts here? /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, at $6 a pop, its not cheap for anybody to buy a card and then use it for like 10 times. $6 = 12 games!!!

I think this % thing is a nice feature, but I wouldn't use it to measure anybody's skill level. Afterall, an advanced player can choose to either play scrubs the whole day and claim a 90+% winning percentage, or play with players who are as good as him and get a 50% winning percentage. It all depends on the competition...

Btw, my Brad had a winning percentage of 9% at one point, I didn't feel paiseh, and I don't know why would anybody feel that way?

Get a card if you play in the arcades often. Its fun. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do they own PS2s? If they do, then the PS2 VF4 trial mode is a great place to start. Otherwise, they can simply read the many FAQs online(eg.VFDC) before they start playing the game.

In any case, VF is not a game that you can just dive into and expect to enjoy it without knowing anything, so research is important.

Let them pick a stylo character like Lei-Fei or Kage.Show them the easy comboes...make them practice the comboes over and over again until they can execute them perfectly.Begin from there.
In fact when i taught my friend tekken...the first thing i did(though cheesy) was to teach them10 strings. And for unknown reason...pple new to tekken always seem to be damn impressed with 10-Strings.Make an effort and write down the comboes for them on a piece of paper...coz in the excitement in playing versus they may panick and forget the comboes and thus button mash.
From there...i reversed their 10-string.Then i showed them how,Then i gave them intense training on reversals and parries.

Next teach them throw escapes, sabakis, inashis and all that shit.In other words...take it slow...the depth in 3D fighters in general is intimidating. Most of my friends op for 2D games becoz you can just practice for 5 minutes and whoop pple's ass in 2D games.I'm by no means an expert...i'm just a 3D fighting game fanatic.

Argh..my Huang Fei Hong only 2 days old...just picked him up coz i saw hereru's vids..all i can say is....wha lan oi....i am impressed. i'm able to do his comboes wbut when play Quest mode somehow panic and forget his strings.I wrote down all on a piece of paper and put in fron t of me and play.

The distance is really not an issue, but given the time constraint and cost involved, it’s really not worth it. Let me explain.

On a busy day, I usually go for a 30-45 min lunch break. And, on not so busy days which btw is atypical, I give myself an hour, maybe 90 mins tops.

Bugis Junction is not like it’s across the road from my work place. I need to drive or take a cab to get there. I usually go for the later, because it’s more costly to drive into town. The MRT, or subway, is out of the question. It takes too much time, 30-40mins per round trip. And when I’m there, I’ll grab a quick bite before I head for the arcade.

    Now, let’s do the maths:

    1) It costs around $9 and 15 mins of travel time to get to bugis and back to my office.

    2) I only have about 30 to 45 mins of gameplay time when I’m there.

    3) For the past 2 days when I was there, never once I had the chance to play with anyone. Although there are some players playing and loitering around the machines, but most of them are scrubs, button mashers. The good players usually come in much later in the afternoon or during weekends. Am I right on this?

Unless being challenged upon, I don’t play with scrubs. I am not saying that I’m too good for them. I believed that most of these casual players just want to have some buttons mashing fun and probably the more serious ones just want to polish up their skills or combos. It can be very frustrating and unfair to get your butt kicked by seasoned players when you are not even close to the stage of challenging people yet. I have been through that stage, I know.

So, seriously if I were not hardcore enough, I wouldn’t have gone through all that hassle just to get 30 mins of gameplay against the CPU.

And besides, there’s an arcade with Evo (thanks to Zyeith), which is just a 5-min walk away from my house! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While I can understand the enthusiasm shown by some of the members from this forum, but everyone has their own lifestyles and to each his owns.

    Peace.

Hey, that's cool. It's just that when I see people talking about the hassles of distance etc, to an Evo in an Asian country, I have to wonder. You could likely take the entire Singaporean land mass and drop it in Lake Ontario - voosh, gone. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif So, distances are tiny in comparison to here. We travel a lot longer sometimes for good competition.

Nonetheless, distance doesn't sound like a concern - 30mins is fine. So you play on your lunch hour? See, in Toronto, that never happens (or if it does, we don't know who these people are). We usually gathered in the evenings or on a weekend afternoon so that people had the time to play with others.

Went down for a while today... Man, all I can say is, everyone seemed to have improved by quite a bit.... Either that, or I'm too darn slow nowadays. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
