1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

A blessing in disguise? Not a chance it's the same old thing. We won't get brand new players because Tekken 6 gets boring. You will just be waiting for the return of old players. Nothing about Tekken 6 getting boring will bring new people to VF. Shit the games been out for 2 years now.

We've had how many games people could get "bored with" so far?

None of that helps getting VF5R.

When I quoted Frank that's what I meant TWP, that the old players will come back which is why I was talking about myself, I agree with you, no new players come out of this Tekken situation it doesn't make any sense.

makes me wonder how japanese gamers feel about vf5r not in wcg since its japan only.. are they content with not being able to represent there country. wcg community should petition for vf5r that might help but non japanese players are at a disadvantage and it might force sega to increase availabilty of the game. i dunno

Why would Japan take WCG seriously when they got SBO?

the VF5 comm in the US is the only one that really cares about WCG- when the other games have locals and EVO.

    1. WCG is for xbox games only and VF5r will never get a console release.

    2. Japan did represent in VF. Fuudo kicked everyones ass badly.

    3. Hypothetically if VF5r did exist for xbox and was at WCG, japan would have even more of an advantage since the rest of the world would have no experience with vf5r. Not to mention they wouldn't need to play an old game like vf5 just to compete in WCG. They could compete in a game they play on a regular basis.

You know what all these talks about "the best way to bring VF5R" depresses me more than anything and I know I am not the only one. I mean, isn't is sad that people care about the game losing sleep about it while people MAKING MONEY from this game don't seem to care? Aren't some of you tired about making excuses for them while they themselves don't even care?

That depends entirely on sponsorship. As far as I know nowhere are WCG games particularly restricted to Xbox. And iirc, Microsoft was pulling out some sponsor money last year.

    At this point,

The exclusive agreement with Microsoft should be about to expire.

The best we can hope for is

DLC. Maybe Sega can provide online capability for PS3 as DLC, and the two new characters from 5R as DLC, and then after that
every 5 to 7 years Sega could put out as DLC either new stages,
rebalancing fighters, maybe some new stage music [IMG]

We might have to face the very real possibility that
VF5 is the last version of VF to be released outside of the arcades. Even if there is a VF6 released for the arcades, how long would it be b4 it came to the consoles [IMG]

By then a lot of the casual members on VFDC will probably have moved on, got married, graduated, incarcerated, or got real
    jobs [IMG]

And the competition over the next couple of years will be brutal. UFC 2009 unleased has sold over 3 million copies in less than a year. Has VF5 sold 1 million copies yet?

    UFC Sales & Future

EA will be releasing a new MMA game this year. I know that these fighters are in a different category than VF, but these titles have a big future, and major commitments from their publishers and they are next best thing to VF for players who
want serious martial art simulation or a realistic combat system. These systems feature:

    Muay Thai
    Judo
    Wrestling
    Brazilian JuJitsu
    Kick Boxing
    SanShou Karate
    Boxing

There is a moderate overlap with VF5 in terms of fighting styles now. As the competition between UFC and MMA heats up,
and a few more styles are added, they'll probably cover even more VF territory [IMG]

Maybe when AM2 looks at the quality of fighters like UFC 2009 and EA's MMA, they've concluded that this kind of fighting game represents the next generation in martial arts fighting simulation and video game combat systems. Even as popular as Tekken 6 has been it won't see the kind of sales that these new MMA fighters are seeing and will see.

I think VF is the best fighter on the planet, and I will play it until my disk no longer works and I can't find a replacement. But maybe VF is a last generation fighter, and UFC and MMA are the next generation fighters [IMG] Maybe the
days of VF, Tekken, SC, StreetFighter, Mortal Kombat, etc are winding down.

Maybe Sega and AM2 realize that there is a whole new generation of fighting engines, fighting physics, and High Def graphics and that VF is at the top of the game in the old generation and it can't really be improved anymore without changing the nature of the game.

So maybe Sega is working on its own MMA game to replace VF [IMG] and to compete with THQ, and EA, maybe that's why we've heard nothing substantial from Sega in years. They are secretly and quietly putting together a next generation MMA fighter [IMG]

In terms of sales UFC + Fight Night Round 4, are puttin up sales that can be respectably talked about in the company of sales for major fad games like modern warfare 2. Maybe Sega wants a piece of that big pie. [IMG]

It might all come down to the economics of potential sales for next generation fighters vs potential sales for last generation fighters and maybe Sega has already done the math. Sega wants to milk its arcade business for all it can get, but maybe its looking ahead to the development of a next generation fighter [IMG]

It would be nice if they let their loyal fans of the VF series know what the long range plans for the series are. Okay they said there are no plans for VF5R on consoles, but what about VF6, or VF7?

If they said "You won't be seeing Vf5R but there will be a console port of Vf6 in two years" I would be very happy.

I think the title is just begging for the Onion treatment:

Militant Virtua Fighter Players Take Sega Execs Hostage to Demand Release of VF5R.

As I said before I really think Sega should just kill the VF series and start a spiritual successor. All other "virtua" franchises got killed and replaced with spiritual successors and why not VF? I forgot who said the following many years ago, but I completely agree: (Paraphrased from memory)

All the VF characters are gay. Except Jeffry. He is cool. But he is still gay too.

Akira should have an item win-pose where he rapes his knocked out opponent with his elbow while saying "PLUS 4 ON HIT!" over and over again.

But some characters would make great spin-off games:

    Hitman-esque game starring Goh
    GTA-Free-Roam-type-thingy starring Officer Lewis
Fucking Boring Fishing simulation starring Jeffry and endgame boss Devil Shark
Iron Chef with one of the boring Chan-characters, the [P][P][P][P][P][P][P] one
Turning tricks and earning allowances for old men starring...
    etc.

Increasing the visibility of current characters would probably help sell some copies as long as the spin-off game was good/popular enough.

How about a game where Akira walks about looking for sailors and plays Lucky Hit! all day?

If there was a fishing game with Jeffry as the main character, you bet your ass I'm first in line and I would buy the collectors edition where it comes with a Jeffry figurine... :faint:
