True, we as a country have done the whole "pick and choose" when it comes to the atroctities we were going to take notice of, and that certainly is very hypocritical, we are not perfect, no nation will ever be, and we must try to do the best that we can for each situation that comes up,
war in iraq is simply wrong, there has to be other means to "liberate" the nation from the cruel rule of Saddam Hussein, but I still feel that the UN has to do more to give a plausible solution to this problem. Hussein needs to be replaced! peacefully, I hope

We must must stop rhetorically fellating WWII vets. Of course they did something difficult and sacrificed a lot, but soon they will all be dead. WWII-vet deification leads to a very unhealthy type of collective self-worship or jingoism if you will. To think of America as this altruistic force for peace in the world is a mistake. That sort of attitude is what led to Vietnam, and let's not forget that the so called "greatest generation" was largely in charge then too. How ever many Americans died in WWII, they represent a fraction of the 3,000,000 people killed in the Vietnam conflict. At least Americans in WWII had a choice to fight or not. What choice do you have as a small agrarian country who gets bombed and napalmed and agent oranged and god-knows-what-elsed by the most powerful nation in the world? Let's stop the fucking flag waving and the good and evil god talk and the patriotic self-fluffing and instead let's start looking at what we can do to make things better here and now, in this life, not the next.

Meanwhile Rumsfeld after succesfully pissing of opponents and fence sitters is now doing his best to piss of allies as well.

US ready to fight 'without UK'

British troops are nearly ready for action
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has sparked diplomatic confusion by suggesting that America would be prepared to take military action against Iraq without Britain.

Thats typical Rummy. Is there any ally he hasn't offended yet?

It took him nearly two decades to offend Iraq, then again back when Saddam was at his most gruesome gasing kurds to the left and Irani´s to the right he was calling him a great friend and ally of the US while shaking his hand.
We all know its difficult to stand up against a friend so its understandeable that it took him nearly 2 decades to see the error of his ways.

The UK and France and stuff, nah their not friends so he does his best to insult them as soon and as often as he can.

Hooray -- let's hear it for Rummy!

This blowhard is going to end up stopping the war all by himself. Oh, the irony. What if the UK really did back down? It certainly is possible at this point.

Oh, BTW, more updates to my site, so check 'em out.

Shit. What can anyone do? Vote. Participate in a demonstration if possible. Talk to people. Change is possible. Punch anyone in the face (rhetorically of course) who says we have a "liberal media." Get a subscription to the Nation or Dissent or In These Times.

As the U.S. economy crashes and working people are falling at 4000 mph, maybe more and more people will start looking up at the bastards with the golden parachutes.

Maybe people will start pointing out that we have a very conservative, corporate owned media in this country that does a good job of keeping most people fucking clueless. There are positive signs. The world's response to Xiao Bushie's plans to invade Iraq are encouraging. Can't give up hope.

Here are some alternative news sources, anything is better than FOX:

    CommonDreams
    and
    BuzzFlash

At least you can get something different from the mainstream opinion, which seems to be. War is good, war is great.

BBC is another good source for international news since America doesn't cover anything regarding the world.

Hey Bush bite me and that includes your White Trash Posse of yours!

    Michael Moore web site

Michael Moore's site is the perfect stomping ground for anything you need. You'll find links to Alternet, Buzzflash, Cursor, the BBC, The Guardian, and Tom Tomorrow ("This Modern World"). There are also a steady stream of links to keep informed.

It's better to turn off the TV. The broadcast and cable networks are nothing more than willing pawns of the White House. Fox News is just a little more obnoxious about it, that's all.

Here's hoping he gets an Oscar. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    some coverage

doing some capturing of canadian coverage of the coming war and thought I would pass some stuff on. All MP3 format so far, I'll add more and you're welcome to drain what you need.

Andrew Krystal interviews Scott Ritter (former weapons inspector)

March 16th broadcast by Andrew Krystal

Sorry for the WMA but I was having mass problems with encoding the length of the audio into MP3. I'll tackle it tomorrow for my own sense of completion.

also coming tomorrow, an interview with Pierre Burton (Canada's best known historian), John Bachelor (co-anchor of an ABC radio program and commentator on Terrorism) and Chris Osborne, CNN headline news anchor and millitary and security affairs expert.
