Yipfry, you're awesome for getting that on video. Also, kudos for manning up and turning a no-win situation in a winning ring out on that disconnecting-scrub.

Play the god damn game folks. If someone spams a move....Make them stop spamming, that simple. Just Machi there asses man, and see how they like it. Sometimes turtling is key to certain battles. Just like music, mix it up.

Thats a very sound suggestion. Could would be so kind as to point me to a vid where somebody succssfully uses machi against a decent Lei Fei? Or any character with unpunishable lows for that matter.

One could just use their own basic tactic back on them as well many of them just can't defend these moves all they do is dish it out. This is what i do to people that jab at my character's knees too much and it is very good at discouraging them if they can't defend the attacks themselves or they will just stand there thinking about what they should do next.

Vannesa's back walk, turtling works in any fighting game(Justin Wong uses this technique very well)And what are you refereeing to by "unpunishable lows"? Do you mean Shun Di's 2K for example?

I was actually referring to Lei Fei having lows in the middle of his strings so that even if you have the reflexes to actually block them you still don't have the advantage. Shun and pai have those too. Shun's d+k is part of another rant topic, that of single hit unpunishable lows. I should have been more clear with my raving /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Conerning backwalk and machi, let's not fall intro gross generalizations here please. If i have more life i can turtle all day with my scrubby blanka in CvS2 (hop hop hop hop) because there are no ring outs and no wall combos that take half and more my life away.

I now invite you to backwalk out of Lei's strings in shun's stage. Or eileen's stage. Or if you don't like the Vanessa and Lei Fei example replace those with Jacky's backwalk vs Pai's strings, or Eileen's backwalk vs an Akira barrage or vs any player who knows what they are doing really.

Almost all of lei's lows are extremely punishable, and they should be @ end of combo if you punish correctly (otherwise some can float and will seem mid combo)

As a dedicated lei fei player, i can tell you that just chillin and blocking is really tough, even if you know him and his set ups intimately. The best you can do is have a move that you know works well after ppp and be setting on it everytime.

For instance, with lei fei vs lei fei, i have 9 K+g ready for any time i'm hit with ppp, or anytime he goes into stance change.
couldn't tell you what move that is for vanessa, that damn defensive elbow is a good option, should beat most low kicks, no?

Yes, but i then we're moving away from the defensive/machi mentality. I'd like to underline that i was not complaining, i just wanted to point out, in response to ShinobiFists post, that committing yourself to defence might work well against most kinds of spam, but not necesarily all. Particularly online. Let's rop the Lei Fei example and move to somebody else: how many times you've found yourself thrown anyway even though you could have sworn that you've ducked wolf's evade p+k. Or let's drop the name calling altogether: how many times you've had your elbow stopped by a low punch after successfully blocking the first. Stuff like that make me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif like no tomorrow with my Lion. Moral play, turtling and defending online gets me nowhere fast.

PS: if you meant do defensive elbow on reaction i have to admit, i don't have the reflexes necessary to do that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif and if i did i'd quit my dayjob /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Wasted Wish gives good advice here. All of lei's sweeps are very punishable. Like -18 or more. if it's not a sweep don't expect much. It's usually around -6. The only low that is hard to deal with online is his Doku 2k. Sometimes when I block it and I go for elbow or some fast mid, his Hai k beats it out online. That's the only low where I will not always go on the offence online. Other than that follow his advice. Be defencive and have an answer ready for his stances. for Vanessa you have her sabaki's. And if they stay in doku, DS 2kp will float. that's just my 2 cents.

In his stances Lei-Fei has the safest lows in the game (doku /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, and ura koko /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif [-4 on guard!]) making them tough to deal with in mix-ups. They're safe though because he can't block afterwards. If you can't react well, they can become difficult to deal with (especially online), but all 3 of those kicks are linear.

One time I was using Sarah vs. Shun and after I guarded Shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif i tried to punish w/ an elbow but it completely whiffed over him. I probably should've used /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif though.

Hai /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is a 10f jab that can be especially useful in smacking opponents trying things after they guard Lei's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, which leaves both players at 0.

you make an interesting point, but just like in capcom games you have to asses the situation. I think shinobifist was just saying in these situations maybe you should try to just turtle instead of just trying to interrupt there flow. with your wolf example maybe turtling will not work for you but offence will. Or maybe you need to turtle differently... when I know i will be greeted with another 2p after i block the first one, I fuzzy to avoid a throw and block the second 2p and input my elbow faster. it's still moral play but taking into consideration the lag that you might have. It does suck when that happens at the end of the match but how many times have I seen that happen offline too? the reason is still the same late input. You're online, input faster.

Coz, punish with 33k. elbow will almost always wiff there.

I really dont know what exactly this guys problem is..... the other day I played a match against him, and five minutes later recieved a message saying "thought so weak" (no clue what this means)... I sent him one back asking him what hes talking about and he sends me another saying "get that weak shit out of here"

I don't usually do this, but screw it.

Bad games to trifling fox. This dude just doesn't get it.

Look: you didn't lose because the game is "cheap". You lost because you got beat. Happens to everybody, especially me, and I suspect it's happened to you more than a few times.

So you should learn to live with failure as soon as possible. Seems to me you've got a lot more failing to do before it's all said and done.
