I know there's problems, just never encounter that one. The one that happens to me alot is teleport grabs. I do a 3K(you hear the hit noise) and the dude slides over and grab me..WTF. lol.

I dunno, lag sucks...but I just think of it as the weather. You know, if you were fighting people in real life, outside. Would you cancel and reschedule if it was raining?

Probably not most of the time ("I'm sorry, I'm going to have to beat you up tomorrow because it's raining"), even if it'll negatively affect how you balance and how you perform.

I mean, I won't play play someone if it's a slide-show, just like nobody is going to fight in the middle of a hurricane or snowstorm, but if it's just slight lag - well, I just take it as bad weather.

Listen, I've never claimed to have the most varied offense in Virtual Fighter but damn, I get challenged by African Madman...or something. Guy has a grand total of 3 moves...in the ENTIRE match /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sleep.gif. Short story, even shorter match. If he was trying to put me to sleep he almost succeeded. Which brings me to a question: Has anyone here even tried to help the guy?

Actually, it sounds like he improved from when I played him. At least you finished your match, he used to pull on me everytime he starts losing:)

African Madman= WORST VF player OF ALL TIME...

Could you be any worse at this game? He either pulls if you don't fall for his three moves or rings himself out so he can believe in his mind that you didn't actually beat him.

He just doesn't understand the game. He doesn't try to get better or develop any kind of strategy. He just uses his 3 moves and if it doesn't work he just gives up. Why does he bother playing? I really can't figure it out.

Almost seems like he doesn't play for any sake of enjoyment of VF. He just plays in the same unskilled way as he did months ago and pulls when he's losing. But he's never made any attempt to improve so it's odd to me that he would even care about his W/L record enough to pull that often. I could understand if he was trying to get better and rank up but it doesn't seem to be the case. He doesn't want to lose for some reason but he doesn't try to improve either. He just uses a super cheap (not even really good enough to be cheap if he tried) style that would only defeat the most noobish of noobs and then, when it inevitably doesn't work for the 1000th time, he pulls the cord. I really don't get why he even bothers playing the game in the first place.

What is his char/3 moves strategy?
I remembered playing against him, but I can't remember the fight ... was prolly shitty

Here is a quote from David Sirlin that applies to African Madman so well:

The Karmic justice of it all is that love of the game really does count for something. Those who love the game play it to play it. They mess around. They pick strange characters, try strange tactics, face others who do the same, and they learn the secret knowledge. Those who play only to win can’t be bothered with any of that. Every minute they spend playing goes toward climbing their current peak, attaining their local maximum. Perhaps they don’t even like the game enough to be bothered with anything except the most mainstream character and the most mainstream tactic with that character.

African Madman, why do you even play the game???

He uses Vanessa and his entire style revolves around the "noob- killer" jump kick that staggers on guard. He will basically just spam this move and follow ups and that is it. I noticed one time I played him that if you just crowd him so he can't get that move off he'll just pull right there or ring himself out. If you won't give him the space to use his one strategy then he won't even play. If he can't use his one tactic he just gives up instantly, he doesn't even try to take a new tack, that's it right there, he's done.

It's so sad and stupid it's unreal. He should just beat up the CPU in Dojo mode, he would probably have more fun and feel more accomplished...

Actually, when he was playing me (madman) --- he was using Pai. Backwards cartwheel kick, low sweep, low jab...I think. It's Pai and the dude's only using THREE damn moves (if even three).Only reason I didn't waste most of my energy trying to reverse what he did was I assumed he would try something else...that WORKED!!!! Guess I give some folks too much credit.

not sure if that was directed at me but I wasn't complaining I just have a situation that causes me problems still *sigh*

that's the situation I'm talking about. She seems fairly safe from a counter from me cuz I'm not in close enough fast enough so what I've been doing is waiting for the DM P+K or getting thrown which there HAS to be a better way there just has to!

Has anyone played this one asain player, Bibo No Aozora? He's garbage. Not that I would normally care to point out a bad player, but look at this merits:

    8000+ Wins
    17000+ Matches of experience online
    6th Dan
    All Achievements
    Asian >_>

But yet he is one of the most garbage players I've ever seen. How this guy managed to get to 6th Dan is beyond me. His main is Lion, by the way, and it is one of the most laughable Lion's you'll ever see. I just don't get how someone has THAT much experience with this game and that's where his level is. >_>

I'm not complaining that much. He's probably one of the biggest reason I'm not 7th Dan anymore. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif I just kept playing him.

What does him being an Asian have to do with anything? Online experience doesn't mean that much. What he's learning online is skewed 'coz of lag.

I think that some people overstate the extent to which lag changes the game. When you play people in Asia it's wack of course, but I think that with one and two bar connections, it's not like you are playing a totally different game. Yeah there might be things that don't go down like they should, but for the most part I think that the people that you can beat cocnsistently online, you would be able to beat consistently off-line. And yes, the people who beat you online would beat you off-line.

1 or 2 frames sometimes makes the difference in terms of knowledge acquired from playing online.

Guaranteed situations is the most glaring problem I see online. You guess right, block move X expecting to punish it accordingly with Y. Suddenly with a frame or 2 lag, Y isn't guaranteed anymore after guarding move X. So someone who played mostly online would think that move X is safe, when it's not.

I'm not saying the online experience has no value. It does, but it's not a very clear picture of how good a player is because of the skewed environment online. Better players will be able to adjust their games accordingly from online vs offline tactics.

Unfortunately, there are new players who are learning most about the game online thus they may not be able to adjust accordingly because they don't know any better.

What they are learning is correct: For Online. Accept that it's 2 different styles of play.

A random emoticon like >_> means don't it seriously. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Thanks for reminding me of my horrible horrible past. -_-

Anyways, lag makes huge changes to this game. But this guy has 17000+ matches online, and his skill doesn't come close to showing his experience. Plus regardless of that, you can clearly see he has a horribly scrubish Lion. How do play that much but your skill never grows?
