VF is as much mental as it is technical. There is absolutely no way for anyone to become a well rounded player if they only enjoy certain styles.

Adamyuki was an incredible player due to his ability to break down an opponent's will. Their will to compete. You gotta learn to remove yourself emotionally during gameplay otherwise you'll succumb to not only your opponent, but anyone else who knows how to rattle you.

People hated Adam's style. Fucking HATED him.

Be strong and play each situation as they come and you'll back down this type of player, or (in Adam's case) turn the match-up into a more entertaining one of "who back's down first?".

Let me also add that I don't agree with the mindset that "boring" players should be avoided. On the contrary if you're a serious competitor you should be seeking all types of competition. Otherwise please do not accept these challengers or join their matches when you see them hosting.

You have a choice when it comes to how you want to spend your time in VF, but realize that there are certain qualities that separate "casual" from the "hardcore".

Sorry White_Worm, this isn't really directed towards you - I just felt like venting a on the topic in general.

Quoted for Truth!!! This post should be stickied. For everybody who bitches and whines (all of us at some point) come back and read this when you get all discombobulated over a loss.

Let's face it. If YOU (the complainer) were winning most of these "boring, abare, turtle, disrespectful, wack, etc." fights, then YOU (the complainer, whiner) would not be complaining and/or whining and/or bitching.
I feel like looking up Adam Yuki's sig all of a sudden. I think it went something like "stop complaining and start improving".

    STFU and fight!

    P.S.
It's even sadder when you're a decent player who STILL moans, bitches and whines after years of KNOWING the game. I mean, wtf?!?! You should already know what the game is about! No, not what YOU think the game "should" be about but what the game IS about. It's about fucking winning. Again, STFU and fight like your life depends on it.
    Enough with the waaah-waaah, pick up some tissues and drop your issues ;_;

I agree with everything you said Tony.. except for one little point. You say that people who complain but win the matches against the people who are cheap no longer are whining or complaining, because they won, but in reality that's not true. It doesn't matter if you win or not against someone who is spamming dmpk's left and right (no pun intended) or turtling etc etc, my point is for example I beat someone in player matches for like 5 win streak, I'm still complaining and whining though because it really tests my patience and will to continue fighting those type of people.

Dang I wanna play in5frames now. Sounds like fun. I have an idea on who he is now. And if it is one of the ppl I'm thinking of, trust when I say I've gained a lot of my game from them.

I'm prob gonna start playing online again. I don't wanna be in the dark before NEC.

    Also +1 to jerky's preach.

Well its just an opinion of mine, and a very unpopular one it seems, but I'll try to explain it a bit better.

First, I'm not trying to sound like I'm whining and/or bitching. Its an opinion. And all I'm saying is that I (personally) hate to see players with a lot of skill and talent go into a match and play at 10%. I don't know if its lazy or whatever, but I like to see people push VF as far as they can.

My main issue is a selfish one though. When people play certain styles, it forces their opponent to play a certain way as well. So like those players on XBL who only do a safe mid, let it be blocked so they can DMPK, thats boring (at least to me). Instead of me trying to outthink my opponent, all I have to do is wait till I block something, then do a full-circular move. And it goes on like that for the entire match. Thats why I can be disappointed with a match even when I'm winning.

As far as taking it to the basic level, let me give an example. I played someone from Japan earlier today who was using Akira (I was using Brad). This guy broke Akira down to his 3 fastest moves, which were jab, low jab, and DE. Over and over again he goes into this pattern. The first two rounds, it was really effective on me. He'd trick me into attacking and I'd get CH, then when I'd turtle up he'd throw. The third round I started using more moves that get around the high/low jabs (like 4P+K), and destroyed him. I thought he might adapt his strat because I had adapted, but it wasn't the case. I continued to exploit the weakness in his flow for the next two rounds, and took it easy. But that whole match boiled down to a single thought for me. Once I had that in place, it was all over and I found myself very very bored.

So there it is, my opinion. Feel free to disagree with it. We're all different types of players, and we all feel differently about the strats in VF.

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way. I understand where you're coming from, however, I encourage you to give benefit of the doubt when playing someone online. For all you know it could be some child or someone who doesn't care that much about "VF" and just wants to play.

It goes back to my point about choosing not to play these types of players. There's no reason to judge or get upset - just move on. That Akira player could have kept it simple because of lag - you never know.

You're right in that "We're all different types of players, and we all feel differently about the strats in VF." but there's a difference between the player that you used as an example and In5frames, In5frames WILL adapt, he WILL switch it up but only IF you force him to. He will keep doing what works UNTIL it stops working. Yes, whether that style is "boring, lame, etc." is subjective but that's neither here nor there. Regardless of your (or mine) personal feeling about In5frames style of fighting (or any successful player's style) the thing that matters, the bottome line is: it works.

I mean, you COULD say that Fedor's style of fighting is boring, that IS subjective but you can't deny that it works. So for other players who spend more time crying, whining and bitching about "styles" instead of learning how to beat it and... well, let's be honest here, while some players can learn HOW to beat anything out there, APPLYING IT is a different story.

You can have all the VF knowledge in the world and still suck as a player, why? It could be a lack of yomi, it could be a lack of good reflexes, it could be they just don't get it.
What's "it"? What the game was made for: to match wits with another player and OUTPLAY YOUR OPPONENT.

Ima take a quote out of Survivor because it applies to good players (not me): They OUTPLAY, OUTWIT and OUTLAST their competition. Some people seem to forget that it's a COMPETITIVE FIGHTING GAME.

Either one finger, or one move. Either way, the latter is definitely possible against people if they can be exploited.

10% is a gross underestimate, obviously. The point is more about not playing your best, so lets change the number to 50%. And by that I mean 50% of the possible flows/moves/setups a player COULD be doing. If they choose to only play a portion of their game, thats their business. I just personally like to see people play VF at the top of their game all the time
