LOL you dont suck ass, dude.

I think most people who frequently visit VDFC are good at the game to some degree. Not everyone is tournament worthy, or "elite"- but I dont think any of these guys would ever lose to like someone who just rented the game or something.

Here's my two cents on the "totem pole" of VF online. From worst to best (I dont want to get flamed for trying to act like some kind of guru or something, this is just for fun)

    1. People who have only played VF for a few days, or rented the game.
    2. People who have played the game for a little while, but have not spent a significant amount of time in dojo.
    3. People who have spent time in dojo, can pull off basic combos and other moves, but are not good in terms of timing or adapting to other players.( these guys are on the path to becoming good, but ironically can be easier to beat than a #1 sometimes)
    4. People who have learned everything a #3 has, but can also readily pull off so called cheap moves that 1-3 absolutely cannot cope with.
    5. Everything above, but can also DEFEND against so called cheap moves.
    6. Advanced tactics begin slowly to emerge- either by study or reflex
    7. Frame data, (sometimes) all the technical stuff you read about on this site
    8. People who know everything a #7 does but just for some damn reason are better than most everyone else.

I would say most people here are a 6 at least, with a few fours, these are usually the ones that start a post about cheap tactics, overpowered characters etc

I like this list, and agree to a point. I find myself winning easily against 3-4 dans, but really struggling against 9-10 dans. I have no idea why though.

Bad Games to myself, for dropping (losing) an insane amount of matches these last 3 days. (not to discredit anyone who's beating me). Waaaay 2 many matches where i go up a couple, dick around go even, then lose to some lame stuff (lame in that, did i really just let someone mash me in the 5th round...i'm suppposed to be better than that)

Same for me yesterday, smb. I basically lost to everybody, got demoted, the works.
It was so bad that I turned off the Xbox around midnight. Normally I would play till 2am or more. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

lol cordona, yeah, i cut my session about 2-3 hours short too, next time pm me and we'll save the misery for some player matches, neither of us will destroy ranked match stats (yes i care about them) and at least one of us will win /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    Cause a 10th dan is a higher rank than a 3rd dan?
That's the obvious answer, or am I missing a joke or something?

Skirting the obvious answer is the joke I think.

Though playing a higher rank can introduce other intangibles to a match (tense a player up etc)...

Well, to elaborate, in my opinion, the difference between 3rd dan and 10th dan is like light-years. Whatever rank you are able to progress to basically means you can and have beaten most of the players that are the same rank or lower than you consistently. That means a 10th dan is a person who can beat 9th dans consistently.

Each dan you move up is a rather large jump in skill as you have surpassed the level of play of the former rank and can consistently beat players of that rank. A 10th dan will beat an 8th dan much more often than not and have the rank to prove they can and already have.

Furthermore, based on this logic, the difference between 3rd dan and 10th dan is actually huge. A 3rd dan player has only proven he can consistently win against 2nd dan and that's about it. A 10th dan can beat a 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, etc and the 3rd obviously can't or they would be ranked higher. If you are 5th dan you should be beating 3rd-4th dan and maybe other 5th dans half the time, but if you could beat 5th dans often you'd probably already be 6th dan.

I think Mattfabbs originally point was that he doesn't understand WHY he cant beat them. Not simply because they are better. If you look at every time you lose the simple "he was better" answer is not a good one. I believe there was confusion with his wording. But I could be wrong.

Record your loss replay and see what they did to beat you.

    Look for things like:

I got MC'd too much cause I was attacking at disadvantage.

I got thrown a lot because I froze.

I got hit with delayed attacks during failed evade.

I'm not doing enough damage to my opponent (missed combos, etc.)

I'm doing the same shit over-and-over and my opponent knew what was coming next.

I think the win percentages tend to be a better indicator of relative skill. I'm at 5th/6th dan in ranked, but that's mainly 'cause I spend most of my time in player match. I'm not that great regardless, but I'm not usually sweating a 5th/6th dan unless they have a 60% or better win ratio.

Higher win ratio players tend to do stuff like sidestep, throw escape consistently, not rely on a handful of offensive patterns etc...

Thanks Plague, this is what I needed to hear. English is not my first language, so I might not have expressed myself entirely clearly, but yes, I know I am not as good as a 10 dan and better than a 5 dan, but what I did not know why that is.My reply was a bit tongue in cheeck LOL. Auvii got it.

Today I had a long session with Pompei Fraz who schooled me.
