This is a little late but all 360's have HDMI out now.

i honestly do not have that problem on my samsung HDTV. The 360 is connected via VGA.

Being very nitpicky, those pictures, while pretty nice comparison, does not fully show the big differences in the console graphics.

In PS3 - when characters are not moving, they are noticeably jaggy. In motion, it is not detectable.

In Xbox360 - specifically where the lighting results in strong contrasts, characters such as Lei, Lau, and especially Jeffry become extremely dark. A lot of the graphic detail is not detectable because of it.

Fulaani - I have a Samsung LCD HDTV, with both my PS3 and Xbox360 connected by HDMI connection and am noticing the same thing EVM and Kod observed. Is your PS3 version connected by VGA? Or do you have an HDMI cable for your 360?

I've played the ps3 version on other HDTVs. I don't have one myself. Kod was talking about black spots, I dunno the contrast may be greater, but I can see detail in even the darkest spots.

Just also adding that 360 gamma appears kinda fucked up to me when put next to the PS3 version. Dark spots are way darker than they should be. I have to wonder why some people don't seem to notice this.

since everyone is noticing the problem I'll take back what I said. I'm probably not remembering the PS3 version right.

I personally think the 360 version looks good though.

The 360 version looks good. Just that, I have been playing on the PS3 version since it was released and the lighting was obviously different.

the problem you guys are mentioning though, are this flat black areas you;re talking about. as in, no detail.

cause I can see detail in dark/black color areas on my tv.

The VGA output probably has different (or adjustable) gamma settings than the component output; it supposedly has different menu options.

The 360 gamma is undeniably messed up, it's visible even in those comparison screenshots linked above (although not as bad as it actually looks in person w/ e.g. jeff in dojo); how big of a deal this is is obviously up to the individual.

Have to admit, i got the PS3 simply for VF5 and when i got 360 version it was like ok why do i have this now so PS3 VF5 got traded in.

Im running a Toshiba 46" Regza HDTV both my 360 and PS3 are HDMI its true sometimes the color contrast of say Jeffry when the light source is on the other side of him seems to have no detail and looks like a dark mess. The Palace arena with the heavy red light sourcing seems far to strong on the 360 version and more natural on the PS3. could just be my perception.

Yeah I played VF1 when I was 7~8 (1994) and then VF2 when I was 9 or 10. At first I couldn't get used to the fact there was no Hadouken (omg!) but after some time, 3D fighting grew on me. I'm 22 now and waiting for my copy of VF5 for PS3 to arrive :p

It's possible that you're viewing it through VGA with the color levels set on standard rather than expanded. This might possibly make dark areas seem less dark.
