Yeah, probably. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif It's happened several times. When I first started playing I had a 9th dan Kage and started playing as the 2P Kage so I could have 4 outfits per character and every time I beat an arcade it would do it. I had to reset and beat each arcade tourney a couple of times before it would work properly. And one time, I forgot, saved my game and realized I had lost it all and just started over. I don't want to go through that again.

After 1st Dan though, it's actually easier to rank up. Well, except when you get to Hero...

Easier my tuckus! /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif I have a hard time with titles until hero, Then its the home stretch. I think i've said this before but protector - champion its easier to do the WMAAC than the last arcade (Maybe its just me though)

no way, you get to the dans without even trying, after the 5th dan, you have to contend in high arcades, and you get a ranking match every 20 matches or so. and to champion? BAH!! i had 600 mmatches with Goh in hero, went up to 800 in nthe last arcade, and then after 200 matches got the ranking match to Champ with Chibita.

I personally play in arcades with the most players of the rank I need to raise my own rank, I never go to the WMAAC to raise my rank. BTW I said it was easy because you only need to defeat very few players to rank up and not because of the difficulty level of the players you face off with.

Errr hang on what do you mean it does n't count?

Since when did you come up with the "rules" of what I WAS THINKING???

Obtaining Champion rank with all chars regardless of difficulty is still a measurable challenge IMHO.

Also what do you mean by true skills? I'm not saying getting everyone to champion rank will make you a vf god and is a true judgement of your skils. What it will do though is give you a far better understanding of what a lau or goh or sarah etc player will be thinking when they are fighting you. Play like you are in front of style judges? What? Why not just play the game for the enjoyments sake of it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, maybe I went too far and in no way tried to say something differently
than you said somewhere(?). I simply meant that it IS easy to whore with some
characters and you can always get out of the fight to avoid losing (Lau, Pai,
    Wolf, Kage...)

Most AI fighters were coded before version B was played to any great extent,
so (anyway) most AI players tend to use same moves over and over again, which
means it becomes easier to counter them as well. Of course you become better
player if you tend to play intelligently, but that was exactly what I meant
before. If you play like a noob and you necessarily won´t become a much better
player, because VF is a quite balanced game (I sincerely believe so). /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yeah I agree with you on the whoring side of things...but then to be if someone were to whore all the way to Champion rank I'd have to admire them soley for staying power. I mean I get fed up if I end up relying on the same combo in a few matches let alone using the same on over and over. Kages [3][P]>[P]>[2][P]+[K][K] almost drove me mad as I found myself using it over and over!

On the other hand even if you got everyone to champion just using shoddy techs against easy ai at least it would give you the experience of playing as all the chars and hence give you a better understanding of how things work. Ultimately its not the same as 2 player VF but at least it gives you some experience.

Agreed. I for one have learned a lot how to play VF by playing Quest mode, but a lot of it also came from my natural urge to perfect everything I start doing. I mean that a large part of my motivation also comes from excellent training modes/tutorials and combo search feature that helped me motivate myself and also try those moves and combos that I have found elsewhere, like from this magnificent site. Two player fights are always their own dimension, but sure it helps to know your enemy. I always tend to play fighting games with all characters, because that way I can calculate situations more realistically and have a lot of fun because I know "the cause of my ignorance". I think that life is all about adaptation nad here in Finland it´s not so easy to find good human opponents as say, Tokyo. But having played over 7000 matches in Quest mode should certainly help when that occurs. /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Right now I´m playing Deadly Alliance and it´s dead easy to see how differently it motivates a player. It feels at times like "Tekken from Hell", because it´s games system feels so illogigal, even though it´s quite fun to play. The problem is that games like DA don´t have that great gameplay integrity that a game like VF 4 Evo has.

Neo, even though I agree with most of the things you've said, here's a reminder: If you REALLY want to perfect your playing, I'd suggest you start saving money for the busticket and get your ass down to Helsinki. Then we'd show how little those 7000 quest-matches are going to help you... /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If anyone else hasn't realised yet, Izha actually has Champion rank for everyone one now! I think a short round of applause is in order.

Im at champion with Akira, and the quest mode overall is overall 94% complete. getting him from Hero To champion was probablly the toughest part, but i never turned down the difficult EVER. i believe there is an invisible seal that is broken when you tone it down /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

    Thanks /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif!
Took about 7000(wins) matches...400-500 per character. Losses 50-150 per character (except my main chars Aoi 2000/300 Akira 1600/400). So whole project took about 8500 matches and couple of months. But very much worth it, it was!
Concentration now only in versus and practising difficult combos.

Nothing compared to passing challenge with all characters...

    (except Lion)

Haha are you a mind reader? This is what I'm currently trying to do. I've done tutorial and tactics advice with everyone one and mission practice with lots. Doing challange and obtaining Champion rank for all the characters is the "ultimate" achievement for me. Maybe after doing it all, I may get good at VF.

  19. Aoi_Mei

    Aoi_Mei Well-Known Member

Hmmm..I havent done tutorial&mission practise with all characters, and I skipped Lion in challenge since he dont get the wallpaper. I passed it with the others and now my Aoi has 100% overall.
But getting 100% overall to all characters...? I guess I´ll consider that later, I´d be good practise still...
My main target is now mastering Wolf´s PGS on 2p side, I find it very difficult to enter quick&perfect HCF from 2p side for some reason.

Suprising that if I look back couple of months, when I thought I was good, I totally sucked compared to how I play now, after learning all characters(less of more) and passing challenge 14 times. My weakest point used to be staggers, for example I used to always eat damage from this simple Brad serie [4][6][K]+[G]--[6][P]+[K] /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Now I can even E-TE after the stagger /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
This all took time but definitely was worth it.

Ah yeah I have some problems going things from 2p side as well. I know all it takes is patience and practice but I'd rather do "useful" stuff like that in challenge rather than master characters that I don;t even like playing all that much. Still I know what you mean about the Brad thingy. Well not Brad specifically but there are loads of things I kept falling for, until I played as that character and learned how it was used and why etc.
