Seems like wating for the DVD to come out and buy one is what we are going to do, but how about the footage of casual matches recorded? I guess it can be posted since it has no association with SRK. Any thought?

Nope, but I'd most certainly like to hear the full story. Does this all have to be in the media thread now?

too bad there won't be any more vids. they were great fun to watch. I had heard that the only VFevo footage that will make it to the DVD are the final 8 match-ups. Is this correct? Just seems a shame if it is.

Fear not. I have around 4 hours of footage taken varying from Evo qualification matches (which won't be on the DVD), to a whole bunch of casual play at the event and at the after-parties. I also have a bunch of replays saved too.

When I get back home, I'll look into releasing a bunch of media over time, at least to whet everyone's appetites until the DVD is released.

I'd like to hear the sordid details on this too... I haven't heard anything about it on any other sites, but I know many people had "issues" with the MvC2 tourney.

I even invited Yamagishi to do the announcing... though I sorta expected him to turn us down... but he went for it... and it ROCKED.

Although I thank srk and staff for an excellent setup, tragic please give credit where credit is due. We should be thanking Tim, Dave, and Spotlite Bryan for helping us cross the language barrier and expressing our feelings on Yamagishi announcing for the tournament. Tim seemed to know Yamagishi from before and opened up our relations with a custom O.Y. jersey. Big props on that. Also thanks to our japanese speaking crew who let us get crazy poses with japanese players.

From what I understand Ricky Ortiz made it to the finals against Justin Wong... I think Ricky has been playing on the east coast with Justin, although pretty much everyone knew he didn't stand a chance against him... I think that is why most people left.. I think Ricky was an upset to get into the finals anyway...

Those pics were a riot. I like the sake pics at the end -- did the J-crew bring that with them?

wow. Myke, I think, gets credit for both Best Photo (your lead-in photo during the tourney) and Worst Photo (image 28 of the 65 Phoenix has up on his site). Well done!

Thanks for the photos, Phoenix. I always wondered how many times on Tetsujin could do a VF pose over the course of a weekend. Now I know.

PD: thanks for putting the pictures up. lots of memories there.

While it's true that David, Tim and I did badger Maru-Y for hours to announce, I think manyy other people did, too. And, when it came time for the fianls, someone from the Evo staff had to okay it, and make it happen. I have a feeling that person was tragic (I also saw Shou doing a lot of stuff up by the stage, even though he wasn't staff).

I also have some non-Finals media that I'll be putting up.

In addition, the "thank you" thread is now up at SRK, under Forums- Evo 2003 Suggestions- Thnks from the VF people. Only 1 reply so far, from a SF player... so I encourage everyone to thank them, even if you couldn't make it.

tragic: thanks for the words of encouragement, and all the hard work.

Uh... I had been in contact with Kuni for months before EVO happened... and as soon as Yamagishi was confirmed announced, I asked Kuni to ask Yamagishi if he would be willing to announce for EVO (confirmation plus asking him if he would announce, was a few weeks before EVO went down). I asked inkblot if this was ok, and he said... "hrm ok... but only for finals... and only if it's Japanese vs Japanese". Again, this was well before EVO even went down. Once we got to EVO, I asked ink if it was still ok for Yamagishi to do the announcing... and he said "fuck it, lets have him do the whole top 8" and I was like "SWEET". Some other people actually asked Yamagishi after they got there... but like I said, it was set up well in advance. So yeah, I credit you for asking someone that was already asked weeks (almost a month) in advance. The reason he went for it was that he was already expecting to do "some" commentating (though at first he only expected to do the finals). I had Kuni ask him if was willing to do the entire top 8 and he agreed.

Actually, some of the pool-play matches should be on the DVD if we have a good source. Lot of good matches there. Might wanna ask Cannons about it.

Girl in #49 is Zero Chan.

    Guy with tats is Spotlite.

Myke is in #19 doing DE pose between Chibita and Ohsu (he's touching elbows with Ohsu).

BTW, thanks for posting the pics, Alex.

/versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Good to see that she is far more attractive than you ever described her on IRC. Especially, when you were being evil to TonnyDanza and describing her and her *condition*. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Spotlite: Bro, nice tats and music.
