I recently watched a television show on martial arts and it mentioned that judo is largely based on the idea of cooperation. They showed 2 guys fighting and they had to grab on to eachother for the other guy to preform a throw...possibly goh actually does jiujutsu and judo was a horrible translation?

Judo is not based cooperation, its based on using the opponents energy against them. The only time cooperation would be involved is when you wouldnt want anyone to get hurt(the guy taking the fall)

    Two_Bit_Mage,

Judo IS NOT based on cooperation. And like Mike said, ppl only cooperate in practice to minimize injury. Maybe what the show meant was coordination. You really have to coordinate and calculate your opponent's momentum and direction to throw effectively.

What about the quote I gave from JudoInfo.com, that says - straight down the line - that Judo is a toned-down version of Jujutsu that can be practised in complete safety!?

Let's just accept that the makers of VF screwed up a little. Like CreeD pointed out, it makes sweet FA difference in the long run, it just looks a bit strange on the characters bio. Well, I guess it does also show that the VF team have not really done their homework.

I don't give two-knobs-of-sheep-shit what martial art he does, but I do maintain that doing Judo is unrealistic and a bit odd. This is not going to stop me playing or enjoying the game at all, so I'm perfectly comfortable admitting it's oddity.

    So should everyone else.

Keep in mind that It's much stranger that a pro wrestler - a sport that is completely staged - would be a legitimate contender! We have to use our imaginations to ignore the flaws, accept the game is totally unrealistic and - despite that - enjoy it for the great fun and challenging arcade game that it is!

My point is - in case your wondering - that people should have it "in them" to accept the VF guys made a little boo-boo, and should feel perfectly comfortable discussing it with other "hardcore" VF fans. That's what these forums are for. If we all sat around and made up defenses on SEGA's behalf and just said how great they are without any sort of critisism, the game would never get better with next versions! /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

To quickly butt in: wrestling is not ALL staged. There are many underground wrestling leagues (especially in Japan) that are "real."

Wrestling maybe staged, but you still get hurt. Its still has lots of acrobatics and tossing and throwing. Dont look at it as real, but as an acrobatic show with ongoing story. thats what makes wrestling popular. Saying you dont like wrestling cause its not real, and that it dosent look real. Is like saying star wars sucks cause there no way lightsabers could work and The force is a piece of shit.,

Instead of bashing Yu, why dont you praise him. I mean seriously, do you realize how hard it would be to put judo into a fighting game and make it feel like judo. Not to mention that Judo is a nation sport of japan, so there a lot of national pride involved in making the character play correctly. All in all I think am2 and mr. suzuki did an amazing job in the little time they had. We should be giving them honor and not destroying there work with complaints. Its just rude

Dude Suzuki is a womanising freak who would be nothing without Kataoka and to a lesser extent Katagiri.

Blasphemy!!!!!!!! Yu Suzuki is the man. Am2 is awesome but Yu Suzuki is the man. When people said a 3d fighter couldnt be done, he did it. lol but we need to get back on the subject of judo.

    Almaci,
You sound as if womanizing is a bad thing!

If he is a womanizing freak, then I'm even more impressed coz he's not just some computer nerd - he can actually get poontang.

    Creed:

You mentioned that if you complain about Goh's psuedo-judo, you might as well complain about Aoi having strikes at all. She uses Aiki Jujitsu -- don't the strikes come from Aikidou? I of course could be wrong, as my martial arts knowledge is extended to maybe Rush Hour 1 & 2 and a handful of other Jackie Chan movies. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry to jump in so late. I'm on vacation.

    Gaijin,
About what u said about Aoi's strikes coming from Aikido:
Firstly, Jujitsu isnt the most unique style, it is comprised of Aikido, Iado, Karate, and Judo (historically, Judo is a derivative of Jujitsu, but in modern days its considered to be an element of Jujitsu as the latter implements a variety throws and what not).

Aki-jujitsu is a form of jujitsu where Akido is the dominant characteristic. their gi's are closer to the aikido gi's and their techniques are use round, circular motions. However, the karate factor in jujitsu is still present and that's where i presume Aoi gets her strikes.

No wonder Ryo has the potential to pull all the hos in Shenmue, he gets it from his great granddad Yu Suzuki!
