Thats what I meant when I said he is a PR poster boy ya dolt.
He doesnt make games and his involvement with em is quite low.
He is in managment and PR, others make em and he promotes em and puts his name on em becouse the name Miyamoto sells games.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Managing a game, and promoting it are considered being involved in the actual game itself. Even if he doesn't develop the core game, he still contributes to (probably the majority) of the sales of the game.

Try not to contradict yourself, especially in the same post please.

    Oh boy.
    He aint managing a game.
    He is managing a company.
He is as involved in making the actual content these days as the CEO of Ford is with designing and assembling a car.

In short the guy is a LISCENCE, he has become a liscence to get higher sales.

So your saying that manging a company is "being a posterboy," *sigh*

He works just like everyone else, and works alot more than all other famous video game producers. If you want to talk about lazy VG makers, talk about Kojima, he takes long vacations after each MG game, long vacations.....

And Miyamoto spends his time playing Sonic Team games with his kids and growing marihuana in his garden wich he then smokes with Nagoshi.
    So whats yer point?

The point is, no matter his conduct, he still gets many games sold for Nintendo, end of story.

This has nothing to do with Nintendo or VG's in general, I think that most of high profile VG names are there for a reason, because of creativity, dedication, and work ethic.

Tobacco is wacko as far as I am concerned.......who cares who makes it........

His name is on there yes but his actual input is not.
People like Ishikawa, Kataoka, katagiri etcetera are responsible for the megahits, not Suzuki.
Suzuki much like Miyamoto has become a pr poster boy, a figurehead.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry but you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Cases in point: Shenmue and F355 - Yu Suzuki was director & producer on both, and the games were his original ideas and concept. If by having input you mean coding the engines or doing production art, then you might have a point but not many directors get involved in that sort of stuff anyway.

VF4 was also Yu's concept, particularly the card system - arguably the most fundamental element of the game. The other developers you mention have been responsible for stuff like Outriggers, 18-wheeler, Evo (basically a balancing act), Beach Spikers and Virtua Cop. The big hits are always directed by Yu.

You should read a good videogame publication like Edge which has frequent in-depth interviews on AM2 projects. Here you can learn the extent of Yu's input - and its considerable.

Sega clearly use Yu as a kind of figure-head to promote games, but not to the extent you claim (without any first-hand knowledge or evidence to back up your statements). If anything, I'd argue that Miyamoto is more of a pr-boy than Yu, as he's the only big name Nintendo have and has recently admitted to not have enough input into recent Gamecube titles. Sega, on the other hand, have many big personalities in the videogame lime light - Naka, Mitsugishi, Nagoshi - to name the majority.

Actually, VF.NET was mostly Kataoka's baby.

Nope, Shen Mue2 was a far better GAME then SM1, thanks to the lack of involvement of Suzuki, F355 was a good sim but a boring game and most megahits are NOT the responsibility of Suzuki, VF and Daytona for instance are Kataoka and Nagoshi games.

It's open to debate whether or not Shenmue 2 is better than the original, what's important is both were incredible games and Yu was in charge of both projects. Shenmue 2 was supposed to be released with the first game but got cut due to Sega managment wanting it out the door in time for Christmas. Therefore, most of Shenmue 2 was already complete when Shenmue hit retail. How on earth can you claim that Yu had "no involvment" in Shenmue 2 when the whole 12 chapter story was writen by him, most of the concept art was done by him and he was official director and producer of both tiles? Are you smoking some extra strong weed or do you just emjoy plucking bull-shit facts out of thin air?

Daytona is not credited as an AM2 game and never has been - its always been Nagoshi's baby. Virtua Racing, on the other hand, was Yu's project and led to the development of Daytona.

As for VF being the brain-child of Kataoka, are we then to believe that Sega and Suzuki have lied all these years about Yu and VF?!! Why is Yu credited as the creator of the first ever polygon fighter. What's your source? Aliens in your head?

And, btw, are you trying to tell m ethe following games, directed by Yu, were not mega-hits?

    Space Harrier
    Outrun
    Hang On
    Virtua Racing
    Virtua Fighter
    F355
    Shenmue

OK worship Yu all you want, fact remains he has very little say in what goes on at AM2 these days.
Yes he had some megahits and yes he has been credited with VF and VR etcetera, fact remains that those games turned out incredibly well despite him and not thanks to him.
He is NOT respected inside Sega and the decision to give him a promotional role has been taken many years ago after the SM fiasco wich was turning into a moneypit of epic proportions.

Post some proof of this please. Any links will do, I just cannot believe that Sega would hate its best employee.

Another set of statements seemingly pulled out of your ass. Please enlighten us as to how you know these facts and who told you them?

Even if you did know someone inside SoJ who told you this, stating something like "Yu isn't respected inside Sega" could never be verified, as respect is based on the sum of many people's opinions.

Also, how on earth would you know to what extent Yu contributed to VF and VR? Again, unless you're privy to insider information one can only base an assesment of an individual's role on a project on the game credits. Both of these titles credit Yu as the main creator.

Take a look at SOJ's website, there's a whole section devoted to the guy listing his notable contributions. If Sega didn't consider him pivotal in the creation of these titles why would they credit him?

In the coming two years we we will see how highly Yu is regarded within Sega and within AM2.
Yes the guy has made awesome games and great hits, those have been years ago tough.
I cant just throw my sources to the open, those who know me do know that I have the credentials and sources inside a lot of companies tough.
You dont want to believe me, fine.

Don't remember saying Edge was a "respectable" publication, I said it was a good videogame magazine, which I stand by.

There's been better magazines in the past that have concentrated on gameplay more, but at the moment I find Edge to be the most informative magazine on the shelves. Although I strongly disagree with allot of their judgments, particularly their view of VF4, it would be a big loss if Edge went out of print.

The magazine is worth it for the developer interviews alone. Occasionally they'll do a big Japanese developer (like Sega), which makes for some fascinating reading.

Yu Suzuki "NOT" respected within SEGA? Sorry fishy but your word's not good enough. You're must provide proof for that to be believable. Hard concrete evidence.
