1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

The only time I saw VF4 Evo take front and center was in Ohio. We put a lot of effort into that tourney. Including harrassing the poor organizer (thanks Jason!) for TV time and a 30 minute drive just to get a component from radio shack in order to play on the big screen.

hahahahah, well said Jerky, we try our best, we just don't have the bread to draw ppl in like we would like to. If I had 6 figures to throw around, you can bet there'd be an 100K VF tourney, fact is, outside of the more "eccentric" of us, we've only got some cheddar to throw around, I think money is the best motivator of humans there is.

So what if we put up say even $500.000 as the grand prize after the tourney is over. Realistically how many ppl do you think will actually continue playing VF seriously. Come on I dare anyone here to throw up a %#.

Not to mention that ppl who play the dated version of VF that is outside of Asia would will need to catch up with whatever newest version that is in Japan. It's a lose lose situation for us since we don't have the infrastructure that could create a demand for VF or the popularity compare to other fighting games to generate the support from Sega itself end of story. If any of you think VF will ever be as popular say Soccer in NA, Football to the rest of the world. You're all delussional than the Guy who is suppose to be working in the white house again this week & instead is @ his ranch.

Shit, am I the only one who gets scared when Smurf starts throwing around words like "infrastructure" etc as compared to normal? ^___^

I agree with Herve. I think the sensible approach is to combine VF with the other 3D game tournaments like Tekken, SC, etc. It makes more sense that way since people will at least get to watch the game being played at a decent level even if they don't participate.

If they give VF5 the same amount of television promotion as the original PS2 VF4 in America, there's no reason it shouldn't have a positive effect in the beginning. I guess the scene will only stay alive based on how well the tournament situation goes.

Arcades are almost dead in the U.S., so I really don't imagine the VF5 scene growing with more casual players unless it shows up on xbox live or something similar. Aside from that I really have no idea how to boost interest. A cash tournament is a good start though.

It's impossible, there is just no way, whatever you do, to make VF popular over here. Does anyone know the sales figure of VF ps2? Or the # of arcade machines still active? If it's lower than the sales of Ico, than no, it will be impossible to boost it 200%. Gamers here are just too immature to take VF seriously (GTA...GTA!?! WTF). Japan is different.

The tournament itself would have to be huge with huge TV coverage.

Even so, magazines like OPM and PSM praise it, but it still gets low sales.

Conclusion, no fatality means a fatality on sales. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey there, although it's awesome that you have a tourney coming up you should create a new thread for that tourney. This way you have a way for people to communicate on topic.
