Yarp, at least here in the UK they do. My xbox has been out of warranty for 3 years and it's been in for repairs about 4-5 times since then, they haven't charged me once even when the CD drive died.

One of the the USB ports of my 360 is on the fritz. Read on and avoid making the mistake that we did this weekend:
There were 3 joysticks and we would change them out depending on who was playing and what stick they wanted to use. I learned a valuable lesson: do not disconnect joysticks from the USB ports, instead pull them out from the short cord that separates and you can use whatever joystick with the same USB short cord connector.

This little plastic, black piece came out and when somebody tried to put it back, they bent the little golden prongs so badly that it took away the use of not just the one USB port but both of them. How? I don't know why but the other one won't work either. The only thing that was working was my wireless controller.
When I tried to straighten out those prongs it seemed to make the 360 not want to turn on at all anymore [IMG]

I'm going to keep troubleshooting and try to find out why this damn 360 won't turn on at all [IMG]

The faceplate thing might be relevant for your problem.

    And ...
"# How long will it take? The average repair time is 14-21 days for customers in the United States and Canada.

    # How much will it cost? The cost of the repair depends on whether your console is still in warranty. If you purchased your console less than a year ago, the repair is free. If your console is out of warranty, you will see how much the repair will cost before you submit the repair."

One year warranty... Well, luckily xbox 360s rarely break!

That gave me a good laugh, im on my third Xbox now, even after they get repaired they still break down eventually, apparently it has something to do with the internal architecture (motherboard etc.) its designed badly and causes overheating in the system, I actually know a guy who claims he's on his fifth Xbox [IMG]

I've been pretty lucky thus far, still on my first 360 and it's been well over a year, thank god.

I have experienced the pain of RRoD and I feel your pain Tony. For a serious gamer, RRoD is a real drag.

I got RRoD and sent mine back, they are pretty quick with getting it back to you. I think if you are interested in getting a new one I say go with an elite.

What your saying doesn't sound like RRoD though... Are you getting the 3 red lights in the proper quadrants?

What if, when he bent the prongs and tried to reinsert that piece, he connected two things that aren't supposed to touch - leading to a short out of both USB slots??? Still doesn't explain why it won't turn on.

Given the trouble I had with a £650($1000) Ati FireGL X2-256 that shares a chipset with Radeon 9800 (for Doom3), I'm going to take a stab and say the problem is related. Small fluctuations in house temperature (cold or hot) would crash my development machine instantly. And I eliminated every other piece of hardware in the system, until all I was originally left with was X2 which I then took a hammer to.

I still think there is a bug in their older HyperZ technology that causes crashes when the GPU is under heavy load, but since switching to Nvidia (who use a super-scaler architecture) my system has been bullet roof.

Thing is, my old thinkpad with Ati 7500 and gamecube/wii which have Ati gpus were fine.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm sending it in next month. No VF for a while is a good thing nowadays, lol.

I hate to break it to you but I had 5 xbox 360's. Each time I caught the Red Ring of Death. After the fifth I got a PS3.

Mine lasted me about four and a half years... That little bitch had a will to live until it succumbed to the three red lights.

I gave the console to my friend who seemed pretty confident he was able to fix the problem... So, if he does, he gets a free console out of the deal.
