It appears to be the average of your best five. That way you don't just get point for going to a large event and placing well then doing poorly for 5 other tournaments. It's modeled after the US tennis ranking system.
Just to confirm: it's the average of your best five results dating back 12 months. From within the Rankings page, you can always click on a players name and view the events (in the 12 month window) that are going toward their current rank score.
