First let me say ,I am new to playing online.

my record in conquest is 193 wins 4 loses with Lei Fei.

why do people play so cheesey online...they will do anything just to get rank.

i am so tired of the jab,jab , kick..

I need help playing online.. Can anyone post some tips !

  2. Though I'm certainly terrible at the the game, I can offer you one piece of advice. Abandon the mentality of the scrub. blaming your losses on some perceived cheesiness is a slippery slope. Accept that you were bested, think about what you did wrong, and try not to do it again.

Every defeat is a valuable lesson. My ranked record is terrible, but after every loss I dust myself off and think about what I did wrong. Slowly but surely, I'm improving. All the knowledge in the world won't help if you have the wrong mindset.

Your record offline has nothing to do with skill against actual people. I also think it's funny hearing a Lei-Fei player complaing about cheese online, no offense. Learn to anticipate and react, and know that a good defense is the best offense.

You have 193 wins and only 4 losses? I doubt you are really having any difficulties with online cheese. If anything, you should be providing advice.

You'll get jabbed out of a lot of things if you attack too much.

    You'll want to practice:
    -punishing whiffed jabs (spacing)
    -low attacking high jabs
-blocking and immediately low jab back (or fast poke back) a low jab.

For example, a lot of Lei Fei Players will do PPP. I can hit a beginner/intermediate Lei Fei out of most of his options after blocking PPP.

A common place where beginner Lei Fei players will get hit is they'll do PPP and then try to do another attack and all I have to do is throw out a low poke and they'll get interrupted. Once I've interrupted them, I have the advantage and more often than not, whatever attack I throw at them will beat out whatever attack they throw at me (hence, the Lei Fei player should block right away).

To break the same thing down:

Lei Fei does a full string and probably doesn't know all of his strong options from this --> he should then defend because he's at a disadvantage. If he's going to attack, it should probably be built around the notion of making the opponent whiff first--instead of trying to outhit the other player.

If Lei Fei tries to attack in this situation (instead of defend) and he gets hit, he should definitely defend because his opponent will probably out hit him in the next exchange too, since Lei Fei was just hit.

Moral of the story: You're not safe if you constantly attack, in fact you're ripe for a launcher or a barrage. You should work on your defense, but also importantly, attacking when your defense yields results (so don't just sit and block, but attack after you block something good). If you're getting jabbed a lot, you're probably not engaging combat properly, most likely you're running into it--but jab is a great start to a rush.

    Let's flip the perspective:
Your opponent is constantly attacking you. He just doesn't defend at all and he loves doing strings. Furthermore, he probably never evades and as we said already, he just doesn't defend at all.

A good way to start the attack on him is to block whatever his favorite string is and then poke him with a low or mid attack (an elbow is great, a low jab is fine for a beginner).

Now that you've hit him, you can start to rush him with your own set of attacks.

However, if he does defend against your set of attacks, you should prepare to block whatever he's going to attack you with. Especially if he's not the type to throw much.

You're not playing cheezy by carefully poking or jabbing. You're just stopping him from being silly.

As for the constant low jabbing, again, it'll get beat if it whiffs and opponent hits you from outside of jab range (example, a sidekick or an elbow that steps in). If it's blocked, an elbow will beat your low punch if the elbow is done right away. Attacks that do a slight hop, if given the time or space, will probably launch you out of the low punch.

The easiest anti-low punch for people new to the "flow" is to block and low punch back. If the opponent blocks your low punch, you should defend. If opponent gets hit or interrupted by your low punch, start attacking him (preferably with a mid poke). This is only really effective against people who attack too much though, attacking when they are at a disadvantage (when their low punch is blocked).

The solid, basic way of dealing with low punch.
Block low punch --> and do a mid poke (elbow) if he attacks or likes to block low
Block low punch --> and do a throw if he blocks high, does reversal, or dodges.

Just thought I'd hijack this topic to keep the board clean, I'm having troubles online too.

It seems there are 2 types of people online, the first are the untouchables. That's pretty self explanatory.

The second are the guys that I go 2-2 with and I lose the last round while they have a sliver of health. This has happened every time I find a decently matched opponent.

I'm wondering, based on that knowledge, what I may be doing wrong? Also, no matter how predictable I find the enemy I'm still getting beaten by them. I'm not saying it's cheap I just find it odd that I'm trying to use everything I learned in dojo and people are beating me with 2 strings, 1 throw and a downed attack.

Seriously, that doesn't mean anything, when i'm bored i play with with 2 moves, 1 throw and a downed attack.

Provide more info if you'd like advice. Like, first of all, what character you're playing, what was the last attack that nailed you, what combos you're doing (you see, if you're not doing max damage and leave the opponent with a sliver of health each time, that could be the real problem), if you prefer playing offensively or defensively etc.

I play Vanessa, can't specify the last attack as I was playing against a variety of characters, don't think they were anything specially chosen moves. Just a pair of newbs brawling.

My combos are dreadful, basic /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif affairs and when I have a juggle opportunity I never seem to do much with it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif doesn't seem to come out fast enough so I gave up on that string, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif works from time to time. I played against a few guys using Akira and it seemed like once they got one hit they could keep pummeling my defenseless body for 50% damage.

My main problem seems to be that, when on the offensive I don't really know what I'm doing. Sometimes I hit, sometimes I don't but it's never really planned. When defending, I'm getting harassed like hell and I can't get an opening without getting hit and making things worse.

Also, I dunno if it's the online lag or not but OM seems to fail me at times and throws don't connect as often.

Ah, Vanessa. I can answer that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif She has 2 newbie killers you can take advantage of:

    1) against aggresive ones use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. On hit follow with a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif low throw, then stomp them (newbies don't roll that well)

    2) against defensive ones use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. It staggers on block so follow up with whatever you like. Newbies don't unstagger that well so i recommend /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, they should eat the whole string.

Now, for some real advice: if you're doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif with vanessa that means you are playing from her offensive stance. It's not that bad for juggles but it's not maximum damage. You mention the opponent stays with a sliver of health, remember? Try using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to end your combos instead, if you add the extra damage from two floats maybe this will allow you to finish the fight on the sooner /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: XBL- Online play - why the cheese, need some

Ah thanks that should help, I kept juggling people with the same stuff I'd use on a standing opponent. Is techrolling just [direction]+ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif? I try to tech but most of the time it just makes me eat up another hit...and the timing seems off online. Hell, one time I kept techrolling by fluke and I kept getting hit with a down attack that visibly completely missed, was Lau's...

    Anyway, thanks for help!

Thats the point on playing Online, to gain experience. What you need to do is "Mirror Matches" Look for a high rank player that uses your character, and see how well they play with that character. Hit anybody up in here for sparring sessions if you want to learn some tactics. We have great players from every region. We have, EAST, Midwest, West and International gamercard sharing theards. So look for your region(To get no lag)and hit someone up. And welcome to the forums, mate /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

To have a good win record, your juggles have to come naturally and consistently. The fun part of the game is figuring out how to connect with the launcher, the juggle is usually the work part. Then back to the okizeme fun part. Gotta hard-wire those powerful juggles into your brain, too many other things to worry about during the match.

Close matches will help you in the long run. It'll help you stay composed under pressure. Don't worry about the round count, it's the win that matters. And those extra 15pts per juggle will make a difference.

I also feel you shouldn't be complaining either, you are very fortunate to be in your position, I lose most of my matches and I don't blame them on the cheese I see ( and I see quite a bit too). I see it as I am not as good as I think I am and need to think about what I am doing and rethink my strategy some. Blaming it on cheese is no excuse, besides lei fei's move should allow to crush the people that cheese you easily if you play him I am sure you can the cheesy strategies should have no effect on you.

It's the internet... what do you expect.

and yes, the transition from offline to online definitely feels wierd, but it'll sink in eventually.
