    hey all,

Ive been toying around with vf for about 3 weeks now and have the basics pretty much down now, mind you I still need alot of improvement, tried several characters, and came to love aoi!

however, I seem to do better with lau and jacky...the thing for me with Aoi is, There is NO damge almost it seems, lol

    sofar I've been using alot of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
sometimes i do a small combo of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif the basic stuff kinda, Im also trying sabaki's and doesnt seem to work most of the time :p ( is this buffer-able from guard ?)

anyways I'm looking for some general moves/strategies.. and also have a few specific questions...

    1. what to do when /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif counter hits ? sofar ive been doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif but thats not really any good i suppose...

    2. what to do agains Abare ( im not to good with the sabaki's)

    3. When exactly do you guys use the sabaki's, and when to use i.e. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    4. What are good moves to pressure with ?

all adivce is welcome! and thanks in advance

If someone is abare - it generally means they're attacking at disadvantage. Attack first for counter-hit and big damage.

This has nothing to do with sabakis. They don't work if you use them when you have advantage. Use a sabaki when your move has been blocked and you expect a particular attack.

Well, first be aware that Aoi really does do less damage than any other character with her juggles. The extra damage from ground throws/reversals/tenchi parries more than makes up for it in terms of character balance... but if you can't effectively apply those, then you're just at a disadvantage if you use her.

    1. 6PP on counter hit isn't a huge advantage, so no particular attack is guaranteed. You're in a nitaku situation though, which means fast mid or throw, learn to watch your opponent, if they're attacking from disadvantage, use the mid, otherwise throw them.

    2. Plague covered this one.

    3. Aoi's sabakis are weaker than most, in my opinion... use 236P+K when you expect an opponent to elbow you (it's many characters best "quick mid" option), the other sabakis usually aren't used much. Reversals are good against any opponent with very predictable responses, or against slow startup moves that you can see coming (wolf's shoulder, vanessa's charged kicks, lei-fei's arrow punch), if you know what attack they'll use, then you can make them pay. Use Tenchi stance whenever an opponent overuses linear non-low attacks.. it's arguably her best move, and just catching enough attacks to make your opponent hesitate now and then can be enough to turn a match in your favor.

    4. Not sure what you mean... learn about the concepts of nitaku and okizeme and maybe you'll be able to come up with a clear question. That is... pressure for the sake of pressure is very hard to use in this game, you'll just become predictable and die... and once you're using the right moves with the more advanced concepts mentioned here, you'll be putting a lot more pressure on your opponent anyway.

And last but not least... check around her dojo forum for some of the combo and "top move" threads... there's lots of good info already here that will certainly help you get better damage than just the basic 66K > 2KPP combo.

Not entirely true, it depends on how large the sabaki window is and does it coincide with opponent attack.

Sorias thanks for the help, but 6PP CH gives a stagger > small floaty knockdown, so its not really a nitaku situation..

For abare, its just not with aoi, its with most chars, i just freeze up standing there guarding.....

and for the pressure strings, I kinda meant, some good moves to use when on advantage / mid range... could'nt find a top10 moves thread yersterday ( but it was 4 am so give me a break ^^)

I seem to be doing better with her now, I love the fact you can really choose to go offence or defence, both are viable options with her...

This is really the first time in a fighter for me that I want to stick with a char, normally I swap alot, and I also did that the last ~3weeks kinda, but I love aoi's style so much...Just HAVE to learn her and become good with her ^_^

6pp CH gives +4 according to the command list frame data. Don´t see anything abouyt a stagger. Maybe it staggers crouchers?

6p however gives +7 on CH, wich is a nitaku situation.

ah thanks fulaani, must be my mistake then, then I have another question after 6p hit u get +5, is it smart to poke with this and then try a throw, since they have 1 frame to fuzzy guard it? or should i just go for the followup ?

To the title: "Where's the Damage?"

Not with Aoi, but people don't play her to deal damage. Picking Aoi racks up a million awesome points for the sheer style factor.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif shouldn't MC on smarter opponents, and it doesn't knock down with out a stagger. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is what you should be talking about. On MC it's +7, so use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or a circular.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif only knocks down if the first part hits a crouched opponent (-14 punisher against lows). If the opponent fails to tech= /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. If they do tech, use oki.

Depends on the advantage you have.

    +2-+3 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    +4-+5 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    +6-~ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

At disadvantage, or against predictable opponents.

Contrary to another comment: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif are really good in some match ups (Kage, Sarah, Vanessa, etc.).

    See "Who does what" thread.

    Add in /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (variants too), /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif.

Also another thing I've been working on is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif for 14i punishment. This is good because /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is super delayable and a half-circ and if it MCs you get lots of advantage. Mix in /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif Throw when they lock up.

Aoi's not about damage at all. I like her because she's more about reading your opponent and working against what they do. She has plenty of options once you bait your opponent into her many defensive maneuvers. Yet her strikes are really good and she's quick enough to still be fun for someone who likes an offensive minded character. I love Aoi.

Like said above...Aoi is for people who aren't worried about doing hella damaging combos for the crowd. They look to win in other ways.
