When do you use DS? When do you use OS?

    Hey,

Ever since I started messing around with Vanessa, I've been wondering about this. I mean, do you go into match thinking "hey, this is Akira/Brad/whatever, so OS (or DS) is better against them" so you use one stance over the other due to their character?

Or is it more like during a fight, you see different situations that suits a stance more (ie, your opponent is doing lots of low punches, so you switch to DS to sabaki them)?

Or do people just do whatever, and let combos dictate what happens? Ie, you just did a combo in DS that ended in p,p,p+k+g, so you stick with OS since you're automatically in that stance?

Or do people just treat Vanessa as two different characters, you pick a stance and stick to it regardless of what happens?

Just wondering how everyone used Vanessa's stances, since there appears to be very little discussion on the hybrid approach of Vanessa, and what stance to use in different situations...

In most cases: What Sebo said.

I am totally a hybrid Vanessa player. I use both stances, depending on... well, not the situation, but the player. If after the first round I notice that the opponent is weaker against one of the stances, I try to use it more. It doesn't mean I always succeed. I just have to change stances... It's like an addiction.

Although I usually use whatever stance I end up in, there are times when I just HAVE TO to try to set up a side hit in OS... It's just so much fun /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

And when you are in OS, and the opponent spams 2P... why sabaki him in DS? Go for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (you might miss due to f....ed up hitboxes /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif ) or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and score big dmg /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
See... there are different options for the same situations in both stances. You use what you prefer /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif That's what's fun about her...
... and the boobs. Those are really nice virtual boobs /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

The 2P spammers really piss me off when I am in OS and usually go to DS and use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif all the quick 2P, if I am in OS I just use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif but the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif in DS is so much effective. I also use both stances as I feel I need them using the threat of the "take that" kick to get people cautious and punish them with mids and grabs as they try to duck expecting the high sweep kick. DM and OM should be used as the situation dictates, if they are throwing you out of your DM's alot you might want to limit it or if they are spamming /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif combos DM or OM can be used to get around an enemy and make them pay regardless of their attack speed.

Although i'm certainly more familiar with DS i force myself to start each game by playing a round exclusively from OS. Bear with me, i'm talking about online play here.

You see, i like playing player matches. I like the rematch feature. I like learning my opponent and applying sabakis from DS. That i can't do by playing a single game. If i have to play just a single game, as for example in ranked matches, i'll have to resort to my character's greatest asset to pull an easy/sure win.

However, once again, i like rematches, i think it helps us improve our pattern recognition (plus i'm sick of the lobby music by now). Thus I have to convince the other player to give me a rematch. To accomplish that i must lead him to believe i'm a worthy oppoenent that actually knows what he is doing. If my opponent thinks i'm some random achievement junkie who picked up yet another game to fill his gamertag with, well, he simply won't offer me a rematch.

Back to the topic, this means i have to prove i'm not a random newbie who just picked up his first character and it just happened to be vanesa. Ergo i'll have to play a round without any of the typical spacing, midkicking and tornado crush found in xbox live in abundance.

So i play my first round from OS. Abare. That's mandatory. From then on it depends. Win or lose, i'll probably play another round from OS trying a couple of lancers and intruder steps. Third round i'll prolly switch to DS to prove i know the command list from there too (still no midkicks and no spacing mind you).

I also avoid like the plague hitting the opponent when/if i win a round.

All that when playing against random people in player matches hoping they'll offer me a rematch.

Against players i've played before or whose names i recognise from VFdc i like to start the whole set from the same stance (with a few surpise switches to spice things up ^^).

Against experienced players who know all about DS i'm embarassed to admit i find OS more rewarding :X3:

when i first started playing vf5 i used OS exclusively for some reason.. after discovering the advantages DS can give you i almost completely lost my OS game.. now i can switch pretty fluidly between them if i want to but im still better in DS.. i like her mid kick combos out of OS because DS only has one mid kick combo and the rest are singles..

i try to switch stances with moves that end in a switchback knee or backfist so its not too obvious.. after a successful switch i usually go for a takedown or a nice throw (i like the arm bar, whatever its called).. blocking gets me in trouble fast so i try to stay on the offensive in OS till im back in DS..

DS is the go to stance.. use OS for a quick change up or to try something tricky and get back into DS.. OS has some fun stuff tucked away but the DS is where its at..
