WCG South offline regional results

Ray asked me to post up results and impressions, cause as he put it, he's less talkative than, say, Chanchai /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

WCG called me this week to tell me that some of the qualifying players were no-shows, so I was in the regionals despite having lost in the finals of my online qualifier. Apparently there were a lot of no-shows, because although rayblade and lone sage had won their qualifiers, as far as I can tell, sora was an employee of the lan center who hadn't even entered the online tourneys /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

After getting some resolution issues worked out ( the xboxes were originally set to 16:9 on a 4:3 monitor ) ray tracked down some stools of the right height to rest sticks on, which helped a lot, and got started with the round robin.

Ray won the first set vs me in the round robin; after a little confusion about how many matches we were supposed to play, I won our second set. The rest of the round robin, ray and I pretty much cleaned house; I think we may have lost a match each at most. This made the finals kind of anti-climatic because we both knew we were advancing to nationals regardless. Nevertheless he turned it up & beat me 3-1.

Congrats to ray on a well-deserved win, and major props to him for taking a day away from the Evo championships to fly to Dallas and play VF. Thanks to lone sage as well for flying out from florida; I dunno if you're on the boards, but you are, try to look up jerky while you're still in dallas. I guess I should scold the people who didn't show up to the regional that they qualified for . . . but as it is, I'll just say thanks for giving me a free trip to L.A.

We didn't save any matches, but I know ray got some pictures and maybe even a little video; hopefully he can post them up after the weekend.

Grats to RBX and KoD. Makes me wish I had entered, after hearing how bad the turnout was;; Of course, I'm sure I'd simply have been more fodder for the two of you guys to grind through... so I don't feel too bad, lol.
