So I just got this info.

    www.sega.com/vf5

Register for a chance to be in VF5. Pick a character and type your ringname and message.

    Good Luck.

The pool for user-submitted handles is probably really, really small, like 5 or 10 (if that much). I wouldn't hold my breath. But still, this is a idea that should've been brought up before VF4 came out.

Am I the only one who thinks this could be done a better way?

I mean, how would you feel if you ended up being a 10th kyu CPU newbie in the first arcade of Quest Mode? /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Personally, I feel that SOA should approach the community and seek it's input so that it comes up with something that looks half-decent, much like what SOJ (or AM2) did with the Japanese players in the Japanese version of VF4 Evo.

I don't think there's any way for SoA (or SoE) to do that... Approach the community? On what basis should the players be picked... Gatherings? Small tourneys won in the US? Evo 2k4? (Or was it 2k5, you know the one with big VF tournament.) All that would the European players inferior. The game is actually played here too, and I really doubt there are more players per 100,000 people in the US than in Europe. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif The Japanese can travel through their whole country without problems - a European player travelling to California is a whole different thing. There are no other means of ranking players - unless by "community" you meant their VFDC performance.

The random draw Srider posted about is strictly for fun, no fame or glory. The handful of players will surely end up on the very bottom of the ranks, unless there's a special rank for them (yeah, right).

It's better than nothing. It's better than not being at all.

I suppose that this applies for the US verion.
But is the PAL version going to have these names as well?

Maybe there's going to be a common "western" version of VF5, with the PS3 being non-region coded. Unless of course Sega decides to region code VF5 out of spite. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif But have they ever made a bad decision? Actually, don't answer.

Not that this is going to matter much, but I believe it states that they own the identity once you submit you ring name.

No big whoop unless you're someone famous I guess and don't mind Sega using your name for money. (technically speaking as well as unlikely)

They don't own it, they're just protecting themselves from people suing for using their handle...

  16. Jerky

    Jerky Well-Known Member

Right, but they can use it for whatever purpose they choose - they own it. Thanks for reiterating GLC! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Right to use it does not equal ownership.

Now you're just being a semantical baby. The only reason I posted was because I find legal disclaimers amusing, and sometimes ridiculous. I don't seriously expect anyone to spend 25 minutes deciding wether they should submit or not. (btw I have the coolest quotes omg)

I think what might happen is that there will be US version and a Japanese version of the game. It's probably not going to be region coded, but just that US will only see distribution of US version.

So if you want the Japanese version, you'd just have to import it, that's all.

I think they are just going to replace all the names with American submitted names in the US version.
