Ok guys. Basically since ive started using the VSHG for game cabinet its been hard to go back to anything else and since theres been no news about a VSHG for xbox or XBOX driver support for the VSHG, I decided to buy two VSHGs and rip them apart in order to get em working with XBOX 360.
What I should really mention here is since i'm a noob at electronics and really dont feel like spending too much time figuring out the nuances of the xbox pad, I decided to buy 2 gutted pads from mas systems with wires already soldered to the appropriate leads. He charged me $125 for two prepped pads and considering the cost of each pad is $40, I felt that $45 dollars of labor is more than fair for the amount of work he did.
The only two tricky parts were connecting the sanwa sticks and the ps, select buttons. The U/D/L/R microswitches are soldered to a PCB which leads out to a special connector and before I was able to solder the wires from the pad to the sanwa stick, I had to cut the connections going to the PCB. I originally tried to bypass this step but noticed I was getting all sorts of weird inputs when I tapped different directions. The PS, select area is a series of 4 plunger buttons which touch onto a pcb to close the curcuit. I wasnt able to use this piece at all and completely replaced it with some cheapie bare pcb.

nice work...the finishing on the cabinet and stick looks really good.

i've also gutted a 360 wireless pad with a view to soldering it onto a happ controller. i must admit from your pics the soldering and wiring looks like a bit of a nightmare. must have taken him a fair old time...he even used differnt coloured wires to help you map the controlls...which was nice of him.

Dude you paid someone 125 dollars for $60 worth of pads? I hope he kissed you first, because you got screwed. Soldering is so freaking easy. Its just meI guess, because it baffles me that people pay to get their car's oil changed.

Is the VSHG response time as good as it was pre mod?

yes, it was really nice of him for sure. As simple as it looks, its alot of work to solder the wires to the pad since the leads are so small.

Have you ever soldered wires to an xbox 360 controller? I'm really interested in seeing your work. You gotta realize that some people have jobs outside of electronics and dont really have the time to find all the tiny leads on an xbox control.

Just for that last wisecrack, if we ever meet, im gonna rape the shit out of you with shun till you start whining about how cheap the game is. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

    Gerald is the man!

If I get this rotary set up to work, I'll bring it over so you can take a look at it.

Anyhow, I'm using used gamestop pads, they have slightly larger copper pads and are a bit cheaper. I think'll use your idea for the plasitc push down buttons though, nice one!

Yeah, good point. From what I've seen of the pads I've taken apart to make joysticks, the cheaper aftermarket ones are the easiest to work with. I gave up on trying to get a Sony PS2 pad to work (I sacrificed it because it didn't vibrate anymore) and also switched to the cheapest Gamespot pad I could find. I got that working on my second try... messed up the ground.

Yeah of course electronics has been a hobby of mine since I was 13 so my point of view is skewed. I mean the culinary arts isn't my field of profession, but I know how to make an omlet. Its not a wise crack, of course most people look at things subjectively. I guarantee you wont hit shit with shun, and Id low throw your ass into oblivion. My gamertag is MOBSSUPREME. SEE you on live, and you DO know 360 VF5 is version C and Shun is gimped, so say goodbye to your god complex.

You think soldering wires to a 360 controller is "hard" heres a hint : use flux.

Im not trying to mock you, man, calm down. I was just saying you got overcharged for something insanely easy. If you want tomockme for overpaying for something,Ill tell you I paid $120 for a VSHG. There, mock away if you wish.

Im not knocking your work,in fact I applaud you. I just tend to look at the big picture. It just strikes me as maybe not the best strategy to gut a $120 controller when you could have just bought $25 worth of sanwa parts and mounted them on a cabinet.

Oh and I would never blame VF for my VF incompetence, thats what my brother does when I duff him out. Thats when I quip :" Your lack of skill is clearly the games fault."

    1. I know how to make an omlette too but when I see a thread like this, I dont post a comment which boils down to '*you're* an idiot cuz you paid for something *I* know how to do easily'. I haven't been soldering since I was 13 and I probably only have a few friends that have been so for EVERYONE ELSE, I think its a fair price for the halfway done pads from MAS SYSTEMS.

    2. Oh NO! SHUNS BEEN GIMPED IN VERSION C?!?! YOURE KIDDING ME!
Hey, can you keep a secret? I actually played version C almost all last month with some of the best players in japan.

Check this link if you think im full of it. Last time I checked, the guy named shu got 2nd in a small japanese tournament.

    3. Normally I don't act like an asshole but when I post a thread like this to share my experience and someone comes by and tries to make a fool of me, it kinda sets me off. Why would you even say 'I'm not trying to mock you" after that? Anyone and everyone that read your post knows you were trying to clown so just stand by it. I'd have more respect for you if you did.

Theres also more to the VSHG for me than sanwa parts.

Dude ease off the caffine. Im just saying you got ripped off. Im not calling you a "FOOL" or "ASSHOLE" . You must have a guilty conscience.

Yes EVerybody knows Shuns been gimped so why are you posting you'd destroy competition with him to such a degree that I'd blame the fighting system. WHY would I denounce a system that's been balanced FURTHER in this iteration? You make no sense. I guess you're just talking out of your ass.

From the outset You said yourself you have no electronics skills so why would I knock you for that? There's no need to make an argument where there is none ,people might think you're a catty little bitch with daddy issues, like Claire's brother on "The Wedding Crashers".

Im out,I gotta go sell some Moron some Pre-laced Sneakers for $500.

oh come on now. LA comes on and shares the marvel of his efforts (combined efforts) and you shit in his thread saying he'd been screwed. Just enjoy the final product or offer your services at a discount the next time.

This isn't an "emperor has no clothes" situation - you're just being a dick. LA knows he paid double the cost, for him it was worth it because he didn't have to eff around with tiny contact points or buy a new Soldering Iron with an appropriate tip. He just had to concentrate on one task and then enjoy a kick ass set up.

your last line is the most telling part of your intent in this exchange.

Just stop GoDokunoDan, you're coming off as a liar and taking away from this thread.

L_A_Akira, how difficult would you say building the cabinet for all of this was? Just the structure of it all.
