SEGA ANNOUNCES VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 FOR XBOX 360

Premiere Fighting Game Franchise Makes First Appearance on Microsoft’s Next Generation Videogame Console

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (December 21, 2006) – SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that the highly anticipated arcade fighting game, Virtua Fighter™ 5, will make its way onto the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system. Virtua Fighter™ 5 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360™ in North America and in Europe during late summer 2007. The game will also be available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on February 20th, 2007 in North America and will be available in Europe simultaneously with the system’s launch in March 2007.

“Those people lucky enough to have already played Virtua Fighterâ„¢ 5 will know that it’s laid the foundations to become the clear benchmark for fighting games on all next generation consolesâ€Â, said Matt Woodley, Creative Director, SEGA Publishing Europe Ltd. “Bringing Virtua Fighterâ„¢ 5 to the Xbox 360â„¢ offers us a platform with power to handle the astonishing visuals, the complex and varied fighting styles of all the customisable characters and will undoubtedly put Virtua Fighterâ„¢ 5 into the hands of a gaming audience craving for a highly polished and credible fighting game.â€Â

Virtua Fighter™ 5 features beautifully detailed stages from around the world where players face off in fast-moving martial arts battles against one of 17 characters. Two lively new characters join the elite group of fighters, adding two new unique fighting styles for players to try and master. With more skill and strategy than ever before, players are also given the opportunity to learn and employ the new “Offensive Move†technique to take down their opponents from different angles, adding a new dimension to the game and something for both new and old fans to master. Virtua Fighter™ 5 also includes the ability to customise characters by selecting from four base costumes and a wide range of unlockable accessories and earnable items. As players win more tournaments they will not only earn costumes and accessories, but also prizes and in-game money that will allow them to buy items from the in-game shop.

“The Virtua Fighterâ„¢ series from SEGA has one of the most prestigious histories in video games,†said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “It’s a franchise that has grown an army of loyal fans both in arcades and on consoles worldwide, and is consistently rated extremely high by the media. Fighting game fans have been hungry for Virtua Fighterâ„¢ 5 and we can now proudly deliver this game with SEGA to Xbox 360 gamers around the world.â€Â

Developed by the highly renowned Tokyo based development team, AM R&D Development No.2, Virtua Fighterâ„¢ 5 for the Xbox 360â„¢ will be available across Europe and North America during late summer 2007.

    Crazy news.

Selfishly, I'm glad I've never bought an X360. Really, it's good news for all who haven't bought a PS3 and can wait a few months to play VF5 at home.

"However, Kikizo can reveal that early code is running on 360 right now and that 360 owners will, apparently, benefit from the additions and refinements that will be made to the 'Version C' arcade revision, while the PS3 version will be based around the imminent Version B. This is, of course, subject to change. However, as AM2 told Kikizo in the summer, there will be no online play for any version of the game"

Yeah I just finished reading that...I must say I'll be really irritated if this ends up being true. Having the game on two consoles is going to do enough damage splintering the fan base (admittedly not the biggest deal since it's not online anyway), but I really don't want to have to buy the same game twice.

+ps3: Play it sooner, has stick support.

    +360: Get a later revision (c?) , 360 is cheaper.

Smart move from SEGA, releasing VF5 on 360 but having two different versions for each system is not good, especially if version C adds gameplay tweaks or give characters new moves. PS3 owners would be left with the option of either buying a 360 to play the latest version, or just play the older version B. That alone will divide the scene for no reason. Hopefully SEGA can manage to offer downloadable patches or something for the PS3, don't have to be items and stuff but atleast being able to get the latest arcade version.

WTF do you mean IF this ends up being true?
What part of OFFICIALLY confirmed do you not understand?

Also why would it splinter the fanbase?
Its essentially going to be the exact same game bar some performance tweaks and/or extra modes so who the fuck cares that at home someone is playing it on a 360 as opposed to a PS3 or vice versa when at gatherings you will be able to jump in and play regardles of what platform you ussually play it on.

[/ QUOTE ]Easy there. He was probably talking about Kikizo's rumor about the 360 version being based on Version C, while PS3 version being Version B.

The whole issue is very suprising, but I think the news are good for VF fans who own Xbox360.
    Me, I am PS3 fan....

I don't want a PS3, and this kind of announcement was exactly the thing I was hoping for with this game.

As long as both versions of the game are exactly the same (same modes and the like), then I think this is a smart move by Sega. If the 360 version is based on Version C, then the PS3 version better allow patching.
