I checked 1up.com and I found out that Virtua Fighter 2 is being re-released as a Sega 3D Ages title (basically a budget priced remake)! Although there's no word yet if it'll ever come out to the US or Europe at least you can import it. Apparently, the Sega AM2 team is working on it and It'll have both the original version and the 2.1 upgrade.

For more info, go to 1up.com or click here .

3D Golden Axe on PS2? *blink blink* If it's something like Dynasty Warriors or GoDai Elemental Force, it has to suck with a capital S. IMO there's no need to bring VF2 to PS2, the Evo VF1 stage and models are good enough.

I don't see the logic in this. I want to play VF2. Evo + VF1 stage and models does not = VF2.

Personally, aside from VF3 on rare occasion...I really have no interest in vf 2.

those of us who are interested in vf2, however few they may be, are dancing with near-orgasmic joy to hear that, josh.

I want a PC Version! Is there any free downloads for VF2 (except the Demo because I already have that)?

Speaking of the PC version...I got it included with the Sega Mega Pack (about 20 games for $20). It has an online option to play 1 on 1 and some sort of team battle. I'd play if anyone wants to. I'm using a slow cable connection fyi.

Wow ! Good old VF2 is coming to PS2 !!! I hope Sega will bring it to Europe . I can't wait to get my hands on VF2 because from the pictures you can see in the following link ,it's 99% arcade perfect ! I think it will keep us busy until Sega-AM2 announce Final Tuned for PS2 ;-) . OK, back to VF2 ( Saturn version ) for some training .

Going to pick this up also. Nothing like getting a "perfect" port of VF2........and only 10 years late!!

Respect still goes to the mighty Saturn port of course, it was close enough at the time.

I'm just so glad i can finally play Virtua Fighter 2! I got into VF when 4 came out and everyone said that the second VF was the greatest before 4. The reason is that I never had a saturn and it doesn't help the fact that I played the crappy Genisis version.

What does it mean for a game to be a 'perfect' port from the arcade version of itself. I never understood that. Sry for the newb question /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it means it's exactly the same.

Have they altered the stages? I know the Saturn version had some of the stages scaled down (torches missing from Pai's stage, stone bridge missing from Shun's) but I don't remember the fencing and the wind sock in Wolf's stage. Was it like that in the arcade or are these things new? (Sorry, but it's been a long time since I played the arcade version)

    i hate repeating myself, but...

"mighty" full of bugs. the NA release was a rush job. the 2.1 mode was unplayable; utterly ruined by a flamingly obvious bug. the music was fucked up in the early printings (first couple of seconds of each music track were simply missing). they fucked up the speed of the game - way the hell too fast. hit detection could be unbelievably retarded (i'm talking sidekicks to the face simply going through the opponent w/o hitting at all). the AI was a stinking cunt bastard. small things like some easter eggs were missing.

i guess you could call it a decent port if you rationalize everything, and it was actually plenty of fun for casual play, but it was a pretty fucking shitty port in the end.

Yea, well at the time it was a godsend. Remember having my imported Japanese Saturn newly bought with Astal being my only game. Then VF2 port arrives.....you've got to admitt AM2 pulled-off a miracle with that port, considering the Saturn's inadequate 3D muscle. They even managed to "fudge" the 3D backgroubds using the Saturn's two VU scroll-planes.

Never played the arcade version enough to tell gameplay apart.

Well, unfortunately, you have no idea what you missed. The arcade version is light years better. No offense, but unless you had serious experience with the arcade version, claiming Sega pulled off a miracle in the VF2 port to Saturn just doesn't seem as convincing.

It was a crap port. Rich puts it perfectly - fun, sure, but nowhere near the arcade version in both graphics and more importantly, gameplay.

Fair point man, but I was mainly talking about the technical aspects. The Saturn was so incredibly underpowered compared to Model 2 hardware, yet visually we were treated to a fabulous nuts'n'bolts rendition of the arcade.

I mean it and Sega Rally 2, for me, were the two games that kept pace with the Playstation visually, and made me proud to be a Saturn owner.

Must also remember that back then "arcade perfect" was like a holy grail, and very few titles ever came close to emulating the arcade. These days we take perfect ports for granted.
